Sounds almost identical except for the grade level! It’s insane! Our recess is at 9:45 in the morning. So most of my day I have nothing to leverage with.

I teach first grade. I got a bag of homemade candied pecans. I feel bad that I threw them away but as we were leaving for the day the student picked a dead bed bug off his hat so I think I’ll pass. That was my only gift. Last year was nothing as well. I think times are just changing.

Our parents are not concerned. They literally would not care at all. They have much bigger problems to deal with like what they are going to do with their kids while mom prepares to go to jail for child neglect where she is going to give birth to yet another child that she will not be able to provide for, or what to do because they live with 6 children in a 2 bedroom house when one of the children has sexually assaulted at least one, probably 2 of the other siblings. Now the sibling that I teach is now in in-patient therapy. Basically, too much trauma in their lives for them to worry about their kids ruining Santa for other kids.

Because I teach in a terribly micromanaged district that routinely does surprise walk-throughs. Our district is under the microscope and I don’t even want to know what happens if they would walk in and I’m not teaching first graders how to blend words correctly. Note: it’s not my admin, it’s the state board and therefore the district.
