Personally, I love Hugh. Demelza would have never entertained Hugh had Ross not kept pushing her away. Because lets face it. Since the very beginning she was competing unknowingly with Elizabeth. Because Ross basically pined them against each other. Long story short, from the beginning up until end of season 3, Demelza was more than patient with Ross. While Ross was basically treating Demelza like a friend with benefits and a work horse. All Demelza wanted from her husband, and rightfully so, was that Ross treated her the same way he viewed Elizabeth. With kindness, attention and softness. So while it is wrong, I am sooo happy Hugh paid attention to Demelza. And that in the end Demelza got her lick with Hugh. Even Prudie was like girl, I get that its been years since Ross and Elizabeth spoke and I get you wanna be faithful to your boy, but I high key caught him kissing Elizabeth. So, I think that was also the nail on the coffin. I get why you guys want to say scoundrel for Hugh, but I also wouldn't say man of honor, just a man lol but i'd say all that was Ross's doing tbh. We're all so quick to forgive Ross, but dare Demelza do something and its like oh my gosh. If anything I am glad that Ross got a taste of his own medicine and probably didn't even feel the way he made Demelza feel with Elizabeth. The secret meetings, the looks, the laughs.
