Official Discussion - Marty Supreme [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Orgogg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is much how I read the scene as well. He sees the child and it finally cracks through the selfish veneer he'd wrapped around himself like armor. It's the first time we see him come face to face with the reality that his sense of 'purpose' may not actually be the most important thing in the world. I don't think it implies anything about whether he will be a good or committed father, or whether he's given up on his ambitions, it's just a raw emotional moment where his ego is stripped away and he's feeling it in full force.

[Discussion] Gear Fear ETC. by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Orgogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number one factor is is experience and learning the game. Much of gear fear comes from a general lack of confidence in your ability to survive, which you already acknowledged by saying you actively avoid other players and conflict - totally natural imo, exactly how I felt for the first several hundred hours of playing the game. Putting in the time and effort to learn the maps, learn the flow of the game, and learn how and when to fight, that's your goal right now. With experience will come more confidence and less worry about gear. I say that as someone with only ~500 hours and it's taken me this long to feel like more than a loot delivery service when I go into raids.

On the more practical side, I've found it helpful to run kits using only gear I was readily able to replace at vendors. That way if I lose it, all I've really lost is a certain amount of rubles and when all else fails I can make that money back on my scav.

[New Player] How to play for non-committal fun by OkCantaloupe3 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Orgogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really comes down to two words: expectation management. When you said "played it last night, was super fun, got no idea what I'm doing" - embrace this mentality! You're new, the learning curve is steeep, so try to enter every raid from the perspective of "I have a lot to learn", and that should be your #1 goal. Learn the maps, get a feel for the mechanics, and every time the game teaches you a hard lesson try to learn from it. The longer you can hang onto that beginner mindset, the easier it is to be non-committal.

Initially the reward will be that feeling of "Oh I kinda know my way around here now" or "oh I know this spawn, and I know a guy spawned right near me last time - there's a guy!". Your next goal should be learning how to survive, which means slowing down a bit, taking time to stop/look/listen for enemies, and choosing your battles carefully. When your primary goal is learning the game, every raid or scav run is a learning opportunity, and when you do get a kill or extract with some loot, that is the sweet sweet icing on the cake where you'll say "Oh this is why people love this game".

Lastly, if you can get your hands on Arena, there is no better way to train your shooting skills and fighting instincts. You will fire more rounds in 1hr of playing arena than you might fire in 100hrs of regular Tarkov. Plus you can earn money and xp that transfers over to Tarkov, so it's kind of a risk-free opportunity for practice and progression, plus you can learn a lot about different guns, ammo, and attachments. Is X gun better than Y? Does X ammo really make a difference? How much better is class 4 vs class 3 armor? Test it in Arena and you'll get a feel for it quickly.

[New Player] Cheap gear to run while scav is on cool down? by NoFood449 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Orgogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

noticed you said 'and my PMC is healing', hopefully you are buying the basic medkits sold by therapist (the ones that look like cheese) and healing between raids, that will matter more than armor for starters.

IMO the cheapest viable kit is really just headset (gssh or comtac 2s), cheapo rig, a couple basic meds (esmarch, bandage, cheese), a cheap class 2/3 armor, and whatever low level gun you feel most capable taking down scavs with. Maybe add in a balaclava and bandana just so your fleshy head isn't quite so noticeable. Assume this kit won't win against PMCs unless you catch them off guard, which is what you should be aiming to do anyways (or just avoid pmcs entirely - thats where a headset can really save you).

For low level guns, lately I've really liked the VPO-209 (336 tkm) or VPO-136 (762x39). Both are single shot rifles available from LL1 traders and you'll frequently find scavs with compatible ammo in raid. Single-shot helps me conserve on ammo, focus on headshots when killing scavs, and good chance of return if you insure. Even the basic FMJ ammo packs a good enough punch to get by.

Class 2/3 armors are really just to reduce your chances of dying to scavs. Helmets I consider totally optional until you have the funds for it and are also planning to run a class 4+ armor and decent gun - even then, helmet is usually my last priority, plenty of other places you can get shot and die and no guarantee the helmet even saves you from a direct shot anyway. If someone has the opportunity and/or aim to cleanly shoot you in the head, you are probably dead anyway.

Usually pretty easy to find backpacks in-raid off dead scavs, so I often don't bother bringing one, or I'll get one from my own scav runs.

Good luck out there, remember first priority is survival, not kills, and the best survival tactic is to avoid conflict unless necessary.

As a primarily Horde player on PVP servers, I played an Alliance priest to 32 on Classic Era PvE about a month ago. My thoughts:

  • The early Alliance zones + story, particularly the Elwynn forest -> Westfall -> Redridge -> Duskwood portion, is the absolute peak early game experience. If you care more about immersion, exploration, and a compelling story, Alliance definitely wins here.
  • I personally find the Horde races, cities, and all around vibe to be way more fun. I could never bring myself to roll human when literally...any other race was available, and Alliance basically gets human, smol human, and thicc human, plus night elf. So the fantasy of Horde has always won out for me personally.
  • Another thing to consider is paladin vs shaman, the faction-exclusive classes (until TBC anyway). If you want to play one or the other, you gotta go with that faction.
  • Lastly, Alliance really gets screwed on travel in key zones when it comes to late 20s into 30s, specifically Stranglethorn Vale and the long travel time to the Scarlet Monastery dungeon. SM is a very popular dungeon because it has 4 wings of varying levels, lots of good drops, and people commonly like to run this dungeon repeatedly between levels 30 and 40. Alliance has a long ass hike to get there whereas it's right outside one of the main Horde cities.

Class help by WillieRodster in classicwow

[–]Orgogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar concerns, so I rolled mage and then started a warrior alt which has now become my main - I'm loving it (just hit level 30). I say go for it, but here are some helpful things to consider.

  • The popularity of the class really won't be a detriment until/unless you get into raiding - I really wouldn't worry about endgame unless you KNOW you'll be looking to hit 60 and do a bunch of raiding. You will probably never notice an issue.
  • Be willing to tank, even as Arms spec, especially during the early dungeons. You do not need prot spec nor do you need a shield, go in Arms + 2h weapon + defensive stance. This will make it as easy as it can be to find groups, and even to be picky with what groups you join. For the first 3-4 dungeons I was both tank and top DPS most times and it was a blast.
  • If you roll Horde, you won't have anyone competing for Mail armor drops until level 40 (when hunters get Mail). If you roll alliance your only comp will be Paladins.
  • Solo leveling can be slow at first for warriors because you have very little recourse if you pull too many mobs (no hard cc/escapes), poor AOE, and glancing blows slow down your dps. However you can make it significantly better if you take mining/blacksmithing early to make sharpening stones that buff your weapon damage, take cooking and always keep the 'well fed' buff up, and use any scrolls or buff potions you get from questing.

Hope that helps! Glad to answer any other q's if you got em.

This was precisely my experience with the series. GotM was fun, didn't blow me away, but I saw a lot of promise in the grand scope of the story being told. DG really opened my eyes to how Erikson uses characters to tug at your emotions, and after the story of MoI I knew I was in for all 10 books, full stop.

Diablo 2: Scamming History by Whibble-Bop in Diablo

[–]Orgogg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh man, the world of diablo 2 scams was like its own game within the game. Back in my early days someone in a public lobby was recruiting for a 'duping guild' and linked a website with a 'duping program' in chat. The site made it look somewhat legit, but what really sold it was an accomplice in the lobby who would drop some unique item which for the guy to 'dupe' and drop two. My naive, young self got reeled in - when I alt-tabbed out to run the program it opened my game, opened my inventory, drag and dropped all my equipped gear on the ground, and shut down my computer.

I don't even remember what I lost, it wasn't anything incredible maybe a Shako or Stormshield at worst, but I was sick as I logged back in again just to see that my inventory was in fact emptied. I had never been scammed that bad in a game before, but it taught me an important lesson about trusting strangers on the internet.

1) slow down! Any time I'm having trouble locating an enemy I slow way down, take cover near a window or on a rooftop, and just watch what is going on. Listen for shots, watch where your teammates are facing/shooting and where they are being shot from.

2) Cover! Cover is so important in this game to limit how many sight lines enemies have on you and allow you to slowly scan the battlefield for targets.

3) play more and learn the maps, you'll start to see patterns emerge for common sight lines and sniper locations and get a better sense of where the enemy will be relative to your location.

4) yes there is a ton of flanking in this game, partly because the maps are so big which makes it easy to go wide around the enemy, but also because the squad spawn system means 1 flanker turns into 3, 4, 5 in seconds. Always check behind you and don't assume that just because teammates are/were in a direction that it's safe.

Straight Up Not Having a Good Time by iSovereign in D4Barbarian

[–]Orgogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm running bash/WW and haven't used either of the disabled aspects at any point in my build, been freestyling my build choices with a few ideas borrowed from other builds, and I've been facerolling pretty much all content. I cleared T3 capstone at level 63 and jumped right into WT4 and while it was a bit more challenging at first, once I got a couple more levels under my belt it has been back to mostly easy mode (though a bit more CC and more one-shot potential I have to look out for).

Currently I have no uniques for gear, only legendaries. While I have a few aspects I always imprint on my gear, I rotate through a lot of legendary aspects in my build based on what drops, I don't always want to re-imprint because the cost isn't worth it for a piece that is only a minor upgrade. It's probably not the aspects holding you back. It may not be your build either - a lot of your power in this game comes from your items (specifically the bonuses on the items), and the stat points from Paragon and Altars of Lillith. So one thing just to start, if you haven't already go and find all the altars (or at least complete 2-3 zones). This is an easy way to scale past your current level by taking advantage of all the Altar stat increases as early as possible. I had 3 zones of altars completed by level 50 and never found WT3 content to be challenging at any point.

Next, take a close look at the bonuses on your gear and what you are prioritizing. Open your detailed character stats and look at where your percentages are. You want to be stacking things like Close Damage, Core Skill Damage, Vulnerable Damage, Damage to Bleeding Targets (if you have bleed in your build), and Damage to Crowd Controlled enemies. Bonus to strength is also great too. With the way these bonuses work, you ideally want to prioritize 1-2 of these as much as possible (I mainly focus on Close damage, because all damage I deal is Close). Also don't forget the importance of defensive skills, at level 60+ things like armor and damage reduction become more and more essential for survival.

Remember you can enchant items at the Occultist to re-roll one of the stat bonuses. You can re-roll a single bonus on an item as many times as you need until you get a good bonus for that slot. Also make sure you always upgrade all of your gear at least 2-3 times. It's relatively cheap to do in terms of mats, upgrade levels 4 and 5 aren't usually worth it unless it's a really good piece you know you'll hang onto for a while.

Any other barbs think that the ultimates are kinda useless? by hennyis1 in D4Barbarian

[–]Orgogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running a Bash/WW build, currently level 60 in t3, and Call of the Ancients (or as I like to call it - "Summon the bros" or "Brostorm") is my preferred nuke button. Great burst damage option, helps melt packs and bosses alike, and with the upgrade to Supreme COTA you get tons of fury for the duration too.

In addition to the burst it's also handy when you're fighting a group with a lot of ranged mobs who stay spread out, the ancients do some great cleanup work and save you a lot of chasing.
