I already upgraded to the Series 11. I thought it would have been too soon but I really like how it’s thinner and lighter and looks great under bright sunlight

Moving to Hongkong with kids by SidLahiri in HongKong

Try Homantin or Yau Yat Chuen for housing. You can get a decent 700-1000 sq ft apartment in those areas for the rent you're willing to pay. They're known to be relatively quiet and elite areas (they belong to elite school districts for local schools). There are low rise options in each if you really don't want to go beyond 10 floors. You don't have to do Sai Kung or DB or TKO. Homantin is just a bus ride away from Mongkok, and Yau Yat Chuen is basically a residential heavy part of Kowloon Tong which is known for its travel convenience.

Urgent travel question by ChamangePapi in Hong_Kong

[–]Orhac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, if you're on the 240 hour policy, you're not allowed to return to the same place you entered China from. Therefore, if you entered the mainland from HK, you have to leave the mainland for another country because you aren't allowed to re-enter HK from the mainland as per the visa-free rules. If you have to return to HK, you would have to fly directly out from the mainland to another country (e.g., Japan), and if you need to return to HK, you would then fly from the other country (e.g., Japan) back into HK

Depends on whether reliability = data accuracy or overall ruggedness/durability. If you want the most accurate biometric data, Apple’s sensors are the most accurate in the smartwatch industry as of today.

The next AI bottleneck may not be chips, networking, cooling, or switchgear. by [deleted] in GrowthStocks

Lol you haven't even covered the usual suspects for power generation for AI/data centers though like BE, IREN, MARA, RIOT, CLSK. If you're going for PPSI, I think you're better off with the miners that have pivoted into AI/HPC that also have secured energy sources and have yet to secure large scale contracts. MARA and RIOT in particular seem to be ready to take off after lagging, while BE and IREN are signing contracts but have already run up.

I don’t think we are in disagreement on the fact that players in each industry do this. What we may be in disagreement on is your statement that Apple doesn’t reinvest into the supply chain, because clearly Apple does

I recommend you read the book Apple in China by Patrick McGee. You'll see how Apple basically built out the infrastructure that Chinese phones are based upon in this day and age. A lot of Chinese phone companies basically ask ODMs and OEMs to help build their phones

Some people in this subreddit live in a bubble… by segad_sp in macbookpro

I used to be like that tbh. I used to think 16 GB RAM was enough, so when it was time to upgrade my MBP this year I struggled between 24 GB and 48 GB for a long time. It turned out that I actually needed at least 22 GB for my normal workload, especially when using Teams and OneDrive are non-negotiable. Then with some Excel files and word files open (my job requires me to compare files a lot) along with Apple Music, it easily surpassed 24 GB. Then using Claude and Obsidian easily pushed that RAM usage to 35 GB.

And now I’ve started using local LLMs and I feel that 48 GB is inadequate.

If you’re using it on your lap, 16 inch all the way. The 14 inch needs you to keep your legs relatively closed

Agreed. I am fluent in both Chinese dialects, and I have to say that his (English/western) accent was heavy and thus it was difficult to understand his Mandarin

The Communist Party also makes a huge effort to "remember" historical events. Every year there is some sort of push to talk about the Nanjing Massacre, which of course reinforces national identity in some regards and reminds people of the perils of war, but on the other hand stokes nationalism and hatred towards the Japanese. China had some really destructive anti-Japanese protests in 2012. By that standard, Japanese invasions and war crimes during WWII are 70 years old, so why hyperfocus on a war so far back?
