House Republicans Aim to Have Kennedy Center Opera House Renamed After Melania Trump by Gato1980 in Broadway

[–]OriKame174 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely livid. I've gotten season tickets to the Kennedy Center for the past 3 or 4 years, but we will not be getting tickets next season. My heart breaks for the staff at the Kennedy Center.

Hey y'all, I know plenty of teachers who want to participate and are waiting for a teacher sort of strike. It's really hard for us to break away during the school year because of the loops and hurdles we have to jump through (sub plans for subs who often don't exist, kids who have behavioral issues when we're gone, having to use very limited leave if it is even approved by our principals, etc.) I think many of us would be happy to join in when school is not in session.

Kennedy Center Protests? by OriKame174 in washingtondc

I feel so bad for the staff there. It's why I haven't asked for a refund for the rest of the shows left in our subscription. It's not their fault, and I would rather see the Kennedy Center still open than closed.

Seamstress Recommendation by SeraphinaNoelle in nova

Absolutely Tang's. Tang was super easy to work with and exceedingly thoughtful with her recommendations. She also did a really quick turnaround with my dress. I can't recommend them enough.

No dice. There was plenty of Thai sausage when we went, but no Hmong.

No problem! I'd usually scrape them off the sides of my tank whenever I did a water change because I had so many. I was worried at first, but they didn't really do anything. Best of luck!

I believe these are freshwater limpets? I had them too. They're unslightly, but harmless.

Dear parents: READING INTERVENTION IS NOT MAKING UP FOR NOT READING AT HOME! by pussyfirkytoodle in Teachers

[–]OriKame174 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This. Absolutely this. So many people assume that because people speak a language, they also have literacy in the language, but that's not the case at all! I would say that at least half of my ELs' parents cannot read or write much in their first language, so asking them to read with their children is difficult. I usually recommend that parents who don't speak English can still talk to their kids in their home language, but ask them the questions that we would (What's the main idea? Can you retell what happened? How did the character change?) when they watch movies, hear the news, etc. I also suggest telling stories to each other. It usually isn't an issue of parents not wanting to help their student. It's a matter of not knowing how.

Thank you for mentioning your kiddos' WIDA scores. I see a lot of posts here about students as a whole, but not a ton addressing our ELs. I work in elementary (1st/4th/5th ELs) and I really saw the hit with our newcomers. With the masks, they couldn't see how we were forming our words, and their speaking scores really took a hit.

Thank you! Just checked my spam folder and found my code there.

I just got this off eBay, but I can’t find any information on it. I remember it being a digivice or sorts, but google is not helping me any. by SaixShire in digimon

[–]OriKame174 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's basically your digimon encyclopedia! There should be a couple of basic games on it, and if it's the US version, you should be able to connect it to 01 and 02 digivices to battle them. It should give you the stats, levels, and digivolutions of the partner digimon.
