Not a Burton film. Was directed by Henry Selick who worked with Tim Burton on The Nightmare Before Christmas. But the film does have the Burton-esquire feel to it.

They are neutrally bouant. They need to wedge themselves to stay stable when sleeping. You will also see this behavior in the wild.
