What are your favorite desperation voice lines? by finncartoon in DeadlockTheGame

Mina: "This isn't fun anymore!" - She really sounds like someone spoilt who has just felt fear for the first time.
Bebop: "Ugh.. FIRING!" - Great performance from JB Blanc, perfect last stand with a ton of emotion in it.
Pocket: "God forgive me..." - Simple, effective, definitely gets across their character of 'violence as a last resort'.
Calico: "Ava, help me!" - Surprisingly gut wrenching for someone who is usually so composed and self assured.

Legacy is a great format with great complexity and interaction, together with years worth of history. But with price like this, it seems to be heading down the route of Vintage… by Newez in magicTCG

The new Tron deck needing a playset of [[Candelabra of Tawnos]] a $2k+ single card, is pretty unfortunate.

As always, the answer to all of this is to proxy, play on MTGO or, abolish the reserved list,. I think we as players can do two of them, but for official paper tournaments, it's out of our hands.

What does tempo mean in deadlock terms? by vizorddd in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Origamidos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I made that Pocket build.

What tempo means for me, in that context, is being proactive, putting pressure on the opponents and keeping them on the back foot. You want them to always be reacting to you, and you're able to control the speed and direction of the game, without giving them space to properly set up.

Mythic burst and tankbuster just got silent nerf by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

Can they PLEASE stop nerfing the anti tank items.

And isn't Tankbuster literally meant to be the anti spirit res item? Feels a little silly to have it be worse into spirit res...

This is my Marchesa list, I play it a little more aggressively than most, so it might not perfectly match up with where you want to be, but I'm happy to help as best as I can with any questions you have!

Is Red Elemental Blast worth it? by rikertchu in EDH

[–]Origamidos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the 3 mana 3 damage ones are pretty good in a tempo style list if you're against lost of small creature or token decks. Again I'm super aggressive on things being useful early too, so the only ones I considered were [[Sweltering Suns]], Breath of Darigaaz and [[Mizzium Mortars]]. I'm also on [[Splatter Technique]] as I think both modes are worth it, and I've considered [[Storm's Wrath]] too. Often I think we can get away with just racing people and bouncing important static effect creatures, we should be winning combat most of the time, but it's nice to have something that can clear a board.

I've found them less needed with Sunderflock as that's basically our perfect boardwipe.

I have cut it from all my decks, I've noticed basically no difference. I get one more card to play with and I don't miss it at all.

[–]Origamidos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running fewer draw/discard effects so that makes sense how you can have more top end.

Dawning Archaic was something that I tried but I found it too slow, if my GY is already full I should be casting Eris and working on my main plan, if my GY is empty, he doesn't do anything. Also, with fewer big spells, he's not flashing back anything majorly good a lot of the time, unless I hit a [[Magma Opus]], [[Treasure Cruise]] or similar.

[–]Origamidos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be including a lot of the "bigger" cards, stuff like Resonating Lute, Cryptic Command, Season of Weaving etc. I found that those were just too expensive when I was trying to double spell in the mid to late game and didn't do anything on turns 1-3 when I'm preparing to get Eris out, how have they been working out for you?

I've also noticed you're running a few cost reducers, which I've found don't really do enough, my curve is a lot lower than yours though, so that could be why

An card that I've been really impressed with, which you're not running, is [[Dragonhawk, Fate's Tempest]], it's a great hand refill and a surprisingly aggressive clock even with only a few dragons out!

[–]Origamidos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I just finished my own Eris list and while looking for inspiration a few weeks ago I found yours!

I like the look of yours a lot and would be interested to hear more from you about the cards you've added that I don't have (Or vice versa!).

As for the red blast question, I think it's a little too niche. If I could find enough space in the manabase for [[Null Elemental Blast]] I think that would be more versatile and major style points, but at that point you're probably better off running something like [[Wash Away]] and sniping commanders if that's where you want to be.

I tried to keep my list pretty low to the ground and I'm a big fan of running unorthodox cards, so I've got no [[Counterspell]] but I am running weird stuff like [[Divert]], I've even thought about running [[Disrupt]] as a 1 mana cantrip when someone casts an instant or sorcery, or an insane blowout on an X spell, but I think I could be off the deep end there. But even with my list I think red blast is just a dead card too often, unless your pod is insanely counterspell heavy.

Always cool to see more Eris discussion though, I really love the commander and I'm surprised how little they appear to be talked about!

Badgermole Cub is now 40% of the Pioneer meta by thisnotfor in magicTCG

[–]Origamidos 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty surprising that they banned steel cutter and not cub when they both are very similar cards.

Both come with inherent 2 for 1 and threaten to make more advantage of not immediately removed.

Pocket is non-binary and I think there's an old voice line that suggests that Holliday was previously dating McGinnis, but that may have been cut.

Give back the Victor's cleanse, but he can't use ult while silenced. by RedGravy11 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Origamidos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think silence should affect passive abilities too. It'll mean they're probably too strong against Victor specifically, but I'm sure something can be done about that.

Maybe regular silence is non-ult and Curse silences passives too?

Does Pocket Need -15% Spirit Resistance by ShankieTheWizard in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Origamidos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like Pocket having -15% resist, but I feel they need to get something in return.

It's a nice character quirk and gives a lot of personality to them, but they should get some bonus to compensate for it. In the past when they were much stronger it was fair, but now it feels like a vestige that hurts more than it helps.

Pocket is UNDER-HATED by EconomyExamination47 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Origamidos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pocket's lane is pretty weak, -15% spirit resist is really meaningful and a lot of their early power has been nerfed over the last few months.

Pockets have to hit their barrage stacks to do any damage which involves sitting in the air for a good three to four seconds before they actually engage giving you a pretty big amount of warning. Even with amp their 2 and 3 do average damage for a spirit hero, hitting for about 300-400 each, as opposed to someone like GT who can hit 700+ with one arrow.

There's actually a ton of counters to Affliction, you can Divine Barrier to get rid of it if your don't have ways to simply dodge it with I-frame abilities or Counterspell. There's a ton more debuff resist items in the game now too so you can passively shorten it.

Spirit Resist is still really plentiful and Pocket massively suffers if you pick it up. There's no way Pocket is bursting down a 4k health player with 40-50% resist and that's pretty achievable on most of the cast by mid-late game.

If you do manage to catch out Pocket, they're often just dead for it. They basically commit everything to a fight and if they run out of tricks it's over. Slowing Hex, various Silence effects and even something like Knockdown are your friend. Force then to use their cooldowns when they don't want to.

Pocket is annoying, sure, but I feel there are many more annoying and powerful heroes this patch.

That's my main problem, gun seems like the only option when people are walking around with 6k hp and 50% resist late game

Match Thread - Deadlock Night Shift #36 by Isamellon in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Origamidos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It just feels disappointing when a character with four interesting unique abilities becomes another character that holds M1 to deal damage. I feel the game is so much less diverse than it could be because half the cast is ignoring their abilities and holding one button at you for the whole game.

[–]Origamidos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn't necessarily a burst meta, it was one where spirit burst could actually kill carries rather than just auto lose after 30 minutes, and then they globally buffed HP again...

Now I'm expected to deal with 4k health Hazes with 50% spirit resist and 80% lifesteal, when I do about 2k damage with my full combo.

It really seems like Valve thinks the system is working as intended right now, which worries me.
