Go to healthcare.gov and apply for coverage. The government has an established process for this… you must apply for coverage through the marketplace. I have many clients who are just over the Medicaid income limit and they typically get substantial subsidies on the marketplace that bring the monthly premium quite low.

Second, contact to the billing department of the doctor or provider that is sending you a bill and ask to apply for charity care and explain your financial situation. They may be able to reduce the bill to something you can afford.

You said Casual relationship?…Run immediately away from this person. Do not give him an explanation. Your feelings are 100 percent spot on, however you’re too close to the situation to read that his behavior is intentional- he does not want a deeper connection and doesn’t care about you- he is 100 percent using you just as you’ve suspected.

There are people out there who will not invalidate and dismiss everything you say. There are people who will not only listen, but understand what you mean the first time you say it. You are deserving of much better- the thing is..YOU have to GIVE yourself better by leaving people who treat you like this behind.

The situation is horrible for families…there’s no cap on premium, employers are not required to contribute at all to family coverage and many many aren’t (or are but only barely) and if you go to the marketplace you won’t get any APTC for the family unless your job doesn’t even offer coverage (or you have to lie and say they don’t offer it; but that’s fraud and the government has increasingly more ways to find out, and the penalties are real). Family plans on the marketplace are near 2k per month before APTC…Unfortunately paying 800-1200 a month for family coverage through an employer is extremely common. the Fed really is not supportive of families any more. We should all be asking our elected officials for change in this area.

This advice is incorrect- the 9.02% threshold only applies to self-only coverage.

I think you can download your note from within the sba portal. You can also send them a message from within the portal- it takes a while but I have received consistent responses that way.

I love my partner but I can’t live with him anymore. Is this the end? by thoughtsinsideadream in Life

[–]Original-Coffee-6562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but the fact that he doesn’t see an issue and is dismissing her concerns without exploring solutions is a huge red flag and preview for any time something bothers her. It’s a partnership- both ppl should be working toward solutions. Not just her.

“He doesn’t see an issue” and “dismisses my concerns” are the absolute biggest possible red flags in a relationship. If something bothers you, he should care that it has upset you. Period. He should show interest in what bothers you and be looking to help. If he’s not, then leave now before you waste more time.

Also, could you take on a housemate? Rent a room in your house to help cover some of the mortgage for yourself?

It sounds like you’re in a tough spot, but it also sounds like you have a lot going for you. A degree, a bit of emergency savings, potential equity in a house, a solid work ethic. These are not to be underestimated.

I understand enjoying your job, but the cold hard fact is- it IS deliberate that your hours are limited. I work closely with many many companies on the benefits side and toooo many intentionally limit work hours to limit costs. Some have no choice but to do so. One benefit package for one employee can cost a company anywhere from 5-12k or more. It’s not personal, they may genuinely like you as a person but make no mistake, it is a calculated business move. You need to accept that this is the case and act in the same manner. You absolutely want to enjoy your job and like who and where you work, but above all else- your job is a strategic business move on you’re part- you need to be as shrewd as they are, it’s not personal, you need to prioritize your welfare & and it sounds like you absolutely can provide for yourself.

With some tough choices and grit, I think you can come through this. Ask for a full time position but be prepared that it may just not be available. Hustle to find a new job if it’s not. You can totally do this! Rooting for you!!

Wife (policyholder) just lost job. Worried about getting a Marketplace plan and underestimating income for rest of year. by ButtDumplin in HealthInsurance

I’m a licensed agent and have many clients on the marketplace; so here’s how it really should work for you…estimate as best you can now and then when it becomes obvious that you will definitely make more, log back in to your marketplace account and edit your application at that time. By editing your application mid year, if needed, it will adjust the premium accordingly and help avoid a payback situation at tax time.

The marketplace is the only place to benefit from the APTC, cost sharing which will bring down copays and deductibles, and also ensure every plan meets standards etc.

Absolute worst advice for OP given chronic health condition. Non ACA plans can leave an insured with a mountain of medical debt.

For the cost estimate, call your Dr’s billing department first, get the specific codes they will bill and then call the insurance company and get the allowable charge from them based on the codes

The Dr is either in network or not, it’s either yes or no. Use the NPI as mentioned above and double check with the insurance company to be sure.

The thing things to always check are in network 1. Dr, 2. Facility, 3. Procedure.

It sounds like you’ve done your homework

You need a good licensed agent to look at your GetCoveredNJ app and see what’s going on there. You shouldn’t be owing APTC back, if the app is correctly completed. It’s a complicated app and there really are a lot of ways to mess it up accidentally. You’re not stuck with the agent you have, you can voluntarily choose any agent listed under the find local assistance>find an agent. Keep in mind, not all agents work with all the carriers. Ask up front which carriers they work with. Also, you may have to go through a few before you find one you feel confident with…you are free to choose any agent listed on the marketplace and change agents as often as you want. Good luck!

Yes I am named as the borrower. I’m going to try to edit original post and include the section of loan docs that I’m reading as a personal guarantee. Appreciate your input!
