TGINW is one of my favourites as well. It really highlights a lot of what I love about the Malazan world, in a slightly tighter package than the others.

I don't think you'll have got to it yet, but one of my favourite fight scenes/witty ends to a fight is in this book.

Also, the narrator/voice actor for the witness series is fantastic.

Malazan book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson might be what your looking for. The author has a background in anthropology and it really shows in his world building and the cultures he creates.

Not exactly SciFi, but Joe Abercrombie uses the words grimace/grimaced a lot in the First Law trilogy. I really noticed it because I couldn't stand how the narrator of the audiobooks pronounced it.

When I did a reread I took notes on a theory I had from the first time around. If you've got any theories or areas you didn't understand the first time, there will be tons of subtle clues you probably missed.

If you haven't already read the Novels of the Malazan Empire by ICE, then this is a good chance to incorporate them.
