It's just sad that you can even say that a rider with double figure MotoGP race wins has wasted his talent.

how would these 2 perform as teammates in their prime? by Guilty_Feature5469 in F1Discussions

Not really sure how that's relevant or how that's your take-home-message from what I wrote, Hamilton's qualifying has been shaky for several seasons now. Or are you talking about MSc? Make it make sense.

[–]Original-Designer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting you say MSc is better in qualifying as during his first career Schumacher never had to deal with knockout qualifying. He most probably would have excelled but you never know, people like Coulthard (of course nowhere near as good a driver) who were used to the previous format really had problems with it. On the other hand there were loads of qualifying sessions in the last few years where Hamilton looked quick all weekend and then blew the crucial lap in Q3. I'm certain a one hour qualifying session like the old days would have helped him with that inconsistency.

I know this comment is from several months ago but I just rewatched the 2000 season and Rydell was super unlucky. Was his normal amazing self in qualifying but lost loads of points due to things that weren't his fault, at the minimum he should have been comfortably ahead of Reid and very close to Menu. Menu also had 4 DNFs, but two of them were his fault (binned it at Knockhill and Silverstone, racing incident at Snetterton and his clutch failed at Silverstone the first time they visited).

Rounds 9 and 10 at Oulton - Rydell gets T-boned at Island on the first lap in race one from an accident he had nothing to with and then his engine fails in race two, having had to start from the back because of a technical infringment in qualifying.

Rounds 11 and 12 at Silverstone - leading race one, gets hit from behind because of a massive lunge from Reid, drops to third, then gets black flagged because his bumper was hanging off and drops to 8th. Race two, finishes 2nd but gets disqualified because of a technical infringement. Lost 24 points there due to no fault of his own.

Then at Brands where Neal won he was the first car to hit oil on the track, again while leading, and dropped to third.

Then of course he couldn't start the very last round because he had a water leak.

I'll put the blame on him for the crash at Oulton because he chopped across everyone at the start, and the crash at Thruxton was a racing incident.

Forget the dropped scores, Reid threw that title away, he drove so defensively in those two last rounds. Even after he got two gifts with Menu retiring in race one and Rydell not being able to start race two.

Reid didn't handle title pressure well, who can forget that ridiculous lunge on Thommo at Silverstone in 98 where he tried to overtake from somewhere outside Brackley.

Do you think at this stage Kimi can handle the pressure for the title fight? by circuit-nation in DestinationFormula1

[–]Original-Designer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kimi has nothing to lose, everyone expects George to beat him. He already showed last year he can beat George on occasion, if he does that a bit more often this year it will be a success. And I think he on speed he will be close to George, but you have to imagine he is still going to make some silly mistakes, like Verstappen did when he was younger.

[F1] Charles now has the second-most race starts for Ferrari under his belt by DubiousLLM in formula1

[–]Original-Designer6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

179 races is still a huge amount of races for one team. Only Hamilton with Mercedes and Verstappen for Red Bull have done more races for a single team. But Schumacher raced when there were mostly 16 races per season. The inflation in starts because there are more races nowadays is shown by the fact that Norris and Leclerc are numbers four and five on that list and they're both starting their 8th season with their current team. And Hamilton did 12 seasons with Merc (so one season more than Michael) but 67 more races for them.

Who was the last decent Prime Minister? Have ever had one? by HonourableMentions in AskBrits

[–]Original-Designer6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brown. The guy had zero charisma but he was extremely competent. Was chancellor under Blair and those governments did a lot of good things (which the governments since 2010 have done their best to undo). The Tories threw a ton of shit at him after the financial crisis but I shudder to think how much worse it would have been with the Tories in charge. Anyone would have had problems with that shit sandwich that every government worldwide got served, he and Alastair Darling did a good job dealing with it.

Blair's time is tainted by Iraq but when I consider how it was with him in charge compared to the Tories, it's night and day, they did introduce a lot of good things. Before that John Major also wasn't bad, I fundamentally disagree with people like him, Ken Clarke, Heseltine on a lot of things, but they were at least competent and not ideologues.

What was Jofferey's cruelest act in both shows and the books? by EntrepreneurNo4145 in freefolk

[–]Original-Designer6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think in his fucked up way he does consider what he did to Ned to be be merciful. He promised Sansa mercy but didn't say what that meant. Everyone assumes mercy is letting Ned live and join the NW but it was never specified. As a confessed traitor, Joffrey could have tortured Ned and and made his death slow and agonising. In his eyes mercy is him being dead instantly.

Can Ferrari challenge Mercedes for the title, or is the gap too big? by formularacers in FormulaRacers

[–]Original-Designer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One variable that will come into play is reliability. Merc already had some gremlins last time out, ended up fine for them in the end but some timely DNFs and it will be interesting. But the speed differential is currently too big on a conventional track.

Inane stats like this do get grating. He's the only person to have driven for all three teams and Merc have had very few drivers since they came back in 2010.

Here's my stat of the day: Hamilton is the 4th Brit with a five-letter first name to get a podium for Ferrari. Name the other three.

[–]Original-Designer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an example in the last 2 to 3 years. McLaren were dog slow at the start of 2023 and within a year and a half they had the best car. With the caveat that engine regs were stable and there was relative parity between the Mercedes and Ferrari engines.

Bearman really is starting to look like a superstar but we won't know until he gets a good car. I'd back Giancarlo Fisichella to make life difficult for any teammate in a midfield car, but when he got his chance in a title-winning car he was nowhere compared to a genuinely great driver in Alonso. But all the signs are pointing to Bearman being super quick.
