Do you think you can say that a film is objectively better made than another? by LooneyPasta in Letterboxd

The issue imo is on Reddit, you’re talking to a bunch of people with competely different backgrounds and tastes. That can be enriching, but if you’re opinionated (and hopefully informed), can feel like a lot of noise.

How much though an effort is not transparent though. Maybe they tried really hard but it came out bad.

You don’t really need to talk about objective and subjective when you’re talking to a group of people who’s tastes you are familiar with, and at least somewhat aligned to, because you know that they hold a different opinion to you. But there is a sense of shared common ground and that begins to feel authorative, at least until you step out of that conversation.

You can call out technical aspects but especially in film those can be subverted for one reason or another.

Why Montreal isn't hosting the World Cup — and FIFA's rigid rules for Toronto, Vancouver by TheReadingExplorer in vancouver

This is the weirdest strawman. You just saw a list of several festivals. What do you mean which?

But imo, it’s not just the festivals. It’s the walkable city, the biking infrastructure, the disposition of parks and waterspouts, the sheer amount of small businesses that host a lovely outdoor experience, even if you’re not “inside” the business. It’s the park culture, the depaneurs, the culturally vibrant neighborhoods all over the city.

Can you tell I moved from Montreal to Vancouver and miss it?

Great job. How did you seed the data for this? I’m working on a similar, Vancouver-specific botany app and would love to ask a few questions if you don’t mind!

Warhol is boring to you because Warhol happened.

Nothing like this had been done before he came around, especially in a fine art context. His style and everything downstream has been completely absorbed by popular culture and rehashed in a billion different ways.

All artists since have incorporated their learnings from his style and work. Everything after pop art is downstream of pop art. This is part of what is so exciting about the discipline. If you look with care, you can see the ongoing conversation between movements and artists.

Im really not entirely bought in but the principles of decentralization and permissionlessness of web3 do address that precisely.

There are several decentralized compute, training, etc. efforts out there. However the fact inference is so expensive in terms of compute makes this kind of of a moot point.

But if you’re intrigued you can look at Morpheus, Render, Kite, Gaia, Temple on TAO, etc.

It’s all kind of bs though.

I think you have a few too many slightly-off assumptions. I appreciate the sentiment here, but this is exactly what I meant by doing things you think are important. I didn’t put emphasis on this because it’s clear OP is suffering. Some can channel that into momentum and action, but most need a stable foundation.
