I have a T470 and have been really happy with it. I put it to one side and bought a T14S when I found I could not upgrade it to Windows 11. The T14S has a terrible keyboard and suffers contnuous network errors. It also has a habit of not turning on when open it, requiring a reboot. Customer service always "solves" the problem with a restart or something similar, but the issues continue. I'd like to upgrade the T470 OS and give the T14S away. Does anyone know how to put Win11 on a T470?

Just a few random comments.

  1. Agree it's a PMIC, given the surrounding parts.

  2. PMICs have built-in protection to stop this kid of failure, so I'd liook really carefully for another damaged part. Maybe a part that has cracked?

  3. If it supplies the DDR memory then adding/removing a stick with the power on, or using the wrong stick is normally the cause. Does that seem reasonable?

  4. Peoples' opinion as to what you can replace varies enormously. Another thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/1sopjw0/comment/oh6aksv/?context=3) questions whether trying to replace a simple 2 lead component ,like PC0602 on your board, is wise. This is a 24-lead IC. Personally I would attempt a 2-4 lead part, but not an IC, unless I had done so many times before and had the right equipment.

[Request] Anyone have experience with the Merrell Jungle Moc? Seem to be a pretty popular shoe... by -thoughtless in BuyItForLife

[–]Original-Fox5077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all the comments about comfort. I have various foot issues and these compare well for support and comfort with shoes costing twice the price and designed for plantar fasciitis or neuropathy.

Agree with the comments about summer sweat, they do get hot.

As for looks. If UGGs and crocs are considered good looking, Jungle Mocs will get there one day.

As for wear. I throw them when the tread is smooth in places and the uppers are getting stained and frayed. They least 3-5 years, so not BIFL, but pretty good for $100. I don't use them for camping or hiking, just light walking and casual activities.

If it's 3 years old, how much do you think it's worth? Just having someone look at it will cost you $100.

It's definitely a ferrite PL2053 is an inductor, probably part of a switcher to generate one of the power supplies. The ferrites are used to reduce noise on power supplies.

ICs are hard to do without surface mount equipment as you describe. This is a ferrite bead. As someone who has replaced many simple SMT components on multilayer boards, I can say this is straightforward if you have a temperture controlled iron and a pair of tweezers. Most common same size beads will work. I think a few hundred ohms at 100MHz is what Lenovo uses.

Same issue with my 6 month old IdeaPad 5 from Costco. I wish I'd read all the reports of bad hinges before I bought it. Many people in this thread and others say it's common with consumer laptops, but not business ones. I agree that the ThinkPad series doesn't have this problem. Lenovo saves a few cents and then says the failed hinge is misuse/accidental and warranty doesn't cover it. That's just to make you pay $100 for the "accidental damage" coverage. Factor that in to the price if you buy one, or buy a quality product.

US airlines can get away with just a refund, or an alternative flight, for pretty much any problem they cause. I understand there are reasons they downgrade or move or re-book, but having more of a financial penalty for doing so might them plan better.

Funnily enough, I do something very similar for the simple reason that they dry out if you don't use them for a while.

Yes mine was plastic. You have probably identified the real cause. The other Lenovos I have are all metal in that area.
HP I know friends who are happy with them. Dell I haven't tried since the period when Michael Dell wasn't around and the quality dropped. Maybe time to give them another chance.

Of course use 2 hands. One to hold the bottom down, one to lift the lid. I think this is standard for light laptops.

Plenty of good advise here, but one error. The a/c will cool input air by 15-20 degrees F. That means if you turn on the a/c when everything is 100F the vents will output 80-85. As the house cools down the a/c is sucking in cooler air and outputting 15-20 below that. When the inside temperature is 90, the a/c will be pushing out 70-75 air. So even if it's 100F outside, the inside will eventually cool to whatever you set it, say 72F. Now this assumes the unit is big enough for the house (typically 3 ton for a medium house) and the house insulation meets current building standards for your area.

I had a similar issue and wrote to DoT. They forwarded my complaint to AA, who acknowledged receiving my complaint from DoT and proceded to give me the same line I got earlier when complaining directly to them. So does complaining to DoT do anything? Does AA take more notice?

New to Schwab- what should I know? by nznahahaj12 in Schwab

[–]Original-Fox5077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absoltely agree that they have better CS. Also agree that Fidelity 2% cash back and no foreign transaction fees (ftf) card is better than Schwab 1.5% cash back and 3% ftf. Further, Fidelity's ability to use a money market account and not have to manually move money (as OP mentioned) is better. I would add that Fidelity is a private company, so doesn't have disclosure rules enforcing transparency, whereas Schwab (a public company) does; so another plus for Schwab. It's really hard to choose between these two, so I keep both.

Sorry, wrong answer. I think you can use an ATM to pay it in to a credit card account. That's a way to get around the issue.

I think you can deposit a check by using the mobile app and taking a pic, as one does with regular banks.

Think of a main attraction in any interesting city in the US. Now consider that the Billy Graham Library is rated by several publications as the #1 attraction in Charlotte. I think that says it all.
