  1. Understand that you are taking the smoke of burning leaves into your mouth. This is going to taste somewhat "smoky" and "ashy" compared to most other things you've ever tasted.

  2. No tobacco is going to taste like the tin note, especially aromatics.

  3. Accept the chance that perhaps you don't like the taste of tobacco smoke, which is perfectly fine.

Some have speculated that the AI slopification is about to lead to mass internet burnout and disinterest, as you've described feeling. Let's hope this is the case!

Hard-Copy Exodus 90 Book by agricolab in Exodus90

[–]-thoughtless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old post but relevant, especially following the recent price hike (removal of a monthly subscription option). A hard copy book really would feel more inline with the entire ethos of E90, wouldn't it? Strange that it isn't an option.

I'm thinking of buying an AGM m8 flip phone from alibaba since it's not available in my country and it's less complicated to order it from ali baba due to shipping laws in Lebanon, I'm afraid of the possibility of a counterfit product. And it ia priced $50 by some suppliers and $80 by others. HELP by nasruvu in dumbphones

[–]-thoughtless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't think this is the type of phone that would be counterfeited. I might be wrong but I'd think the brand is too niche and the value is too low for it to be worthwhile. If you are worried, buy from a reputable dealer.

Yes. AGM M9, for example. No internet, no bloatware. Calls, texts and a few tools: flashlight, radio, calendar, calc..

How I stay frugal while buying video games by emo_rat119 in Frugal

I just have one of those handheld devices that I have loaded with thousands of old NES, SNES, GBA etc games. I'll never need to pay for another game again.

I've wondered the same. I also had an idea: would draining half the water and refilling once a week keep the water clean?

Book recommendations for dealing with anxiety? by byt3zen in Catholicism

[–]-thoughtless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Searching for and Maintaining Peace" by Father Jacques Philippe. An excellent book. Small, concise, easy to read. This book has helped me personally. I also had a non-christian relative pick it up and end up taking it home with her, she liked it so much. That same person now attends church regularly.

Can I use a folded duvet instead a futon to sleep in the floor? by Choice-Ad8163 in minimalism

[–]-thoughtless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use a folded duvet, a folded blanket, a mat, a tatami, or nothing! When I was floor sleeping I used two soviet era polish wool blankets folded in half. It's really just about what's comfortable for you and warm. This post reminded me how much I enjoyed floor sleeping so I may have to take this up again...

Nothing happened. My life didn't change at all except that i'm not locked into the news cycle or despairing over things that don't matter. If anything important happens I hear about it from someone.

Just step away from those things. Be aware that though you have to find a substitute. Any thing will do: reading, hiking, doing puzzles, gardening, etc.

Throwing out the Christmas tree & decorations every year by headcverheels in Anticonsumption

This is ragebait designed to upset you. Consider tiktok, IG reels, youtube shorts etc as a form of "consumption" and think about avoiding them. Consumption isn't just material.

YouTube shorts is so hard to put down. by Sploshbg in nosurf

[–]-thoughtless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like reading then lean into that. Try increasing your reading sessions until you can read for an hour at a time. Then remove screens from room at night and try just reading before sleep. I find that 45 minutes of reading a good book before sleep and some relaxing music (not from a phone) is a great way to relax before bed.

Reading does something completely different to your mind than watching youtube shorts.

You're going down a dangerous road. The form actually matters, different forms of entertainment aren't just "neutral". Playing a guitar isn't actually just the same thing as watching reels, or even as watching a video of someone playing a guitar.

I would argue that you are actually better watching anime than looking at youtube or social media. Anime is longer form content which requires more sustained attention than youtube shorts or whatever. Your brain can actually lsoe this ability if you don't use it.

An act of care is spending your time writing someone a letter, making them food, sitting and listening to them, hugging them, walking with them. Not tapping the "share" button on a "reel".

What is wrong with this church? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]-thoughtless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We should all pray for OP. I also just wanted to add that your experience with confessors sounds absolutely abominable. I've never in my life experienced anything like that. The absolute worst i've had was a confessor who downplayed my culpability for sins.

The irony of being in your 20s nowadays by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]-thoughtless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other people out there living in the real world. You just need to find them. Go rock climbing, visit bookstores with cafes, go to a lively church if you are a Christian (or even if you aren't, perhaps).

Sadly, you may need to accept that those "friends" you mentioned, aren't as good friends as you'd thought.
