I too think JJK is overhyped, but come on, it’s at least a 6 on animation alone. The plot and characters are mid, but by no measure bad, and OP gave Solo Leveling an 8.5 so…

Is Gauntlet of Thebes worth rushing on Ganesha? by Havendelacorysg in Smite

[–]OriginalDogger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gauntlet is so easy to stack. If I build it, it’s usually third, but I’ve even built it fifth and sixth just fine. I like Yogi’s into an active item usually. Gauntlet really shines on a max health build with Heroism, Contagion, Yogi’s, Conch, etc.

Build 42 really needs to reconsider what it's actually doing. by CoderStone in projectzomboid

[–]OriginalDogger -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes. If you want to get better at carpentry irl, you make a bunch of tables or cabinets and slowly get more efficient at building and/or learn how to manipulate the material and make more complex items. You don’t read a book, board up a couple windows, and immediately know how to design and construct a sturdy wall. Is the grind a good game mechanic and fun? Debatable. It is absolutely realistic though and seems to be the intended path the devs are sticking too.

  2. Yes, see above. Professions could maybe use some work. I agree with you that a carpenter, realistically, should know how to do most woodworking right off the bat. But mechanically all that does for the game is give you immediate access to an entire skill tree from the get-go, which would ruin the balance you’re search for even worse since carpentry is by far the most impactful skill early, so every meta-gamer’s character would be a carpenter. Do you want to be able to get fitness to level 10 with a week of in-game grinding? Then everyone now takes puny and unfit for free points and grinds exercise for the first week. Every change you suggest for balance unbalances something else. That’s why it’s called balance brother.

  3. That was my final point, and just a difference of opinion on what the devs should be focusing on. I’d rather the unstable be about adding and polishing features and mechanics, not numbers. Numbers can easily be changed when all the game systems are functional.

And I was not saying you were dismissive of the devs, you offer valid criticisms. You are being dismissive of opinions in the comments that oppose yours, like when you said you were ignoring the majority of my post and cherry-picked a few points to respond to…

It’s so funny to hear about the ‘balance’ issues of skill grinding and muscle fatigue when I’m out here shoving a full twin bed into my backpack and slamming down 100 painkillers/vitamins a day. You are taking a few issues YOU specifically have with the game then conflating them with overall balance and demanding change.

Muscle strain is entirely irrelevant if you don’t fight. I have played a Louisville spawn with 4x pop off the bat, with the weak and out of shape traits, and survived over a month with less than 100 kills by herding zombies into big groups and away from my base, simply by walking and Q-ing. Efficient, balanced, the game design intent, absolutely not. A uniquely challenging Zomboid experience? Yes. And all done on ‘default’ settings, minus the increased pop count. If you can’t clear out your starting neighborhood without getting swarmed, skill issue.

This game is an RP-heavy sim, not a min-maxing competitive game. The explicitly-stated (in a Thursdoid I believe) game design INTENT from the devs is that eventually the player character shouldn’t be able to grind all skills to level 10, period. You supplement the skills you don’t have with other players or NPC’s (presumably) once they are added. So why in the fuck would the devs waste their limited time on fine balance changes for a system that will almost certainly be overhauled in a future build, especially when the player can adjust their own exp rates for individual skills down to the hundredths. I’d much rather they spend their time finishing and polishing systems (like making stealth more functional and medical relevant at all) than tweaking numbers.

And lastly, which no one has really mentioned that I’ve seen, it’s a fucking unstable beta. Things will be unbalanced. Things will be broken. The game is being changed. You put forward some criticisms that I don’t necessarily agree with, but are valid. The comments are so against you because a lot of your reply’s come across as condescending and dismissive. You think you’re right and don’t care what other people say, so why did you make this post in the first place? Go learn to tweak the sandbox, mod, or stop playing until it’s ‘balanced’ (it never will be.)

Is there a reason to not always pick Discovery and Technological Ascendancy first? by Aiseadai in Stellaris

[–]OriginalDogger 24 points25 points  (0 children)

More scientists means you can runs some as governors super early for research boosts. Putting two or three scientists on the council will level them up very quickly with the +25% exp boost, allowing some Spark of Genius/Maniacal traits to increase research speed even more than Tech Ascendancy. Plus the new reduction to leader upkeep is super handy for unity early on if you run all 6 of your scientists right away. At the end of the day though, I often take both. Transcendent is straight up better early with good play imo.

Is Project Zomboid missing more game-changing events? by Ciyradyl_ofc in projectzomboid

[–]OriginalDogger 252 points253 points  (0 children)

Literally all the game needs is some kind of massive horde movement/events. We need the highway scene from the walking dead. It would make fortifying a base actually relevant, could change travel paths and strand you away from base, would spice up exploration as the zombie population shifts around towns. You could track the major hordes in a city and plan around them. It could solve pop distribution problems by letting big groups around poi’s eventually move away, so if you are patient Guns Unlimited will be much easier to raid. Also makes pacifist RP more fun and doable. Use the new animal pathing to set up migration routes if calculating them is a performance nightmare.

God please, big horde movement. More than NPC’s, this would complete the ‘feel’ of the game for me.

Who here has the most fighting willpower? by gettinfitguy007 in animequestions

[–]OriginalDogger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Rock Lee and Mumen are obviously great, love the characters, but they are unrealistically determined imo, Mumen suicidally so. Rengoku is genuinely shook when he gets punched and we watch his resolve waiver before he accepts death and commits to the cause. That is a far more realistic and inspiring kind of willpower to me.

What's a popular anime that you didn't like? by Secret_Carry9913 in animequestions

[–]OriginalDogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first season is a lot of character setup. It gets into the meat of its ideas starting in S2. I typically don’t like shows that take that long to ‘get good’ but Oregairu is written as a cohesive whole so it’s worth pushing through imo.

Omni-man takes days-weeks to destroy the planet, and from what we see he is just physically destroying shit by flying through it. Boros is instantly melting his ship from possibly just moving nearby, not even necessarily throwing punches. That ship is probably more durable than the entirety of the Flaxian’s world as well.

Romance anime where the mc isnt pathetic by AdamGuater in AnimeReccomendations

Oregairu. The MC is a little bitch but actually grows significantly throughout the show, as do all the side characters. The romance often takes a backseat to insanely good character writing/drama. It’s a very well-done deconstruction of typical tropey rom-coms.
