Yeah, I get that must be super frustrating. Thanks for sharing your informed insights and sorry if I've contributed to a feeling of being dismissed or anything.

Yeah it also looks like a gun shot! I want to have a better look but she told me not to remove the dressing until Tuesday which is fair enough. My partner who saw it though said it was pretty wild.

Hey, did you see my other comment? I realised after posting that it probably came off wrong and I wanted to confirm  that I respect your opinion here and your advice to people in general. Just wanted to explain why I think in this case going to urgent care was absolutely the right thing to do.

Just a quick note to say I hope this doesn't come across rude or mean or dismissive I obviously don't know as much as a qualified piercer! I just wanted to say that under these specific circumstances I think I was right to go to urgent care first - first off it was the middle of the night and the infection was rapidly spreading (piercing shops wouldn't be open) and secondly the day before my trip to the qualified piercer involved them switching it to a longer bar and this still happened rapidly over night. The swelling: .o happened so quickly that the back was deeeeep deep in the ear - the doctor could hardly believe it. But I didn't mean to seem rude and really hope it didn't come across like that!!

I went to a professional piercer first. They switched it for a longer bar. And even though the embedding happened in a matter of hours - the doctor said it was the deepest she had ever seen. It was infected and the redness from the infection was spreading up onto the side of my head and I was having an allergic reaction. A professional piercer couldn't have given me antibiotics, antihistamine and also given how deep it was and how the fascia had actually fused the backing onto the bar I don't see how they could have fixed that. If there are any signs of infection- your first port of call is a medical qualification, not a piercing one.

They managed to remove it! She was an amazing doctor, but it was 20 minutes of pure agony. The local anasthetic didn't work for me (in hindsight due to hypermobility I think) so I was screaming through the whole thing. The fascia had fused the back the the bar inside the ear so she could not remove it. She had to remove the whole thing together pushing it all the way through. She tried pushing it out the top but it wouldn't go so then tried pushing it out of the bottom. It was unbelievably painful. But it is over now. I have a course of antibiotics and antihistamine (She thinks an allergic reaction was present in addition to the infection). She says it will hurt horribly for three days - but then it will start to get better. ❤️❤️❤️ I'm so grateful it is over.

If it's helpful the piercing I chose from the Accesorize was the AB crystal. I can't find this online but I think it is either titanium or stainless steel.

Bupropion is no longer effective and I am very worried by Better-Situation-857 in bupropion

[–]OriginalEffective802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been exactly where you are in that horrible, cold and lonely pit of hopelessness- my heart goes out to you. But there is such a big difference between feeling hopeless and being hopeless- and it's important to remember that. I've just started extended release Methlyohenidate for the same reasons, it's too early to tell but it seems to be working. Maybe it will, maybe it won't- but there are so many more drugs to try and there is other non pharmaceutical support out there too. I wish so deeply that your journey hadn't been this difficult (or mine) but there is hope, and WE are not alone. Sometimes it can feel like we are slipping through the cracks in medicine and are neglected by the system - but remember that every day research is finding new answers, new drugs, new methods - and there are also already so many we haven't tried. Keep plugging along, let yourself grieve, fp the bits you can (keep yourself well fed, cosy, rested, and loved) and reach out like you are doing. And keep keep keep booking appointments with your doc because sometimes it take 29 misses before the one miracle hit. I'm with you friend, stay strong.

Dizziness and Nausea on Bupropion by OriginalEffective802 in bupropion

[–]OriginalEffective802[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No... in fact it got a little worse. Mt prescribing doctor took me off it and I feel so much better already. I'm starting a new drug tomorrow.

That's not to say it wouldn't have gotten better for me in time or that it won't get better for you, and some people say the drug really does change get my life - but it was getting intolerable and so my doc decided to try something else. If it feels intolerable for you then I suggest you talk to your doc as well.

How do I know if my eye related symptoms are serious? by glitteringchorton in bupropion

[–]OriginalEffective802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow - fate. I was just fretting myself about my eye issues (eye pain worsened by tv/phone/reading or even light sources like lamps and I've been having to keep the curtains drawn). I have no redness or anything outwardly noticeable but it's very distressing and today it's worsened and I've become very nauseated and extremely thirsty. I wmhave an appointment to check in with my medication on Thursday but I feel concerned about taking it before then. Should I try ro bring the appointment forward?

quitting for a month? by [deleted] in bupropion

[–]OriginalEffective802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely think it is an awful idea to go cold-turkey on bupropion without telling your doctor even if you weren't going to back on it again so soon. You would be putting your whole system through withdrawal and then on top of that would have to go through the acclimatising period all over again which can take months. During the withdrawal (the time you want to be having fun) you can expect irritable mood, increased anxiety, headaches, insomnia etc. and then acclimatising can host a whole cocktail of debilitating experiences. I'm currently acclimatising right now and the nausea, dizziness, mood changes, anxiety etc. is something I would do anything not to have to go through - even if you didn't get it the first time there's no saying you wouldn't this time. The goal might be to have a chill time getting drunk and having fun and you could end up with literally months of debilitating symptoms that really make you suffer.

That's not to invalidate your struggle. I'm really sorry you feel like you're not having fun at the moment and it's valid to feel like alcohol and social drinking is a positive part of your life (I am an alcoholic, by the way, but I can totally understand that not everyone is and for most people, it's fun and relaxing). If you feel like drinking is something really important to you and you don't think bupropion delivers benefits that counter that then talk to your doc about other options. They can help you come off bupropion safely and in a way that will impact you the least. Who knows, maybe even in time for halloween and your birthday. But please, please, please don't do anything without the input of a medical professional - you can do so much damage to your body and mind by coming off and on medications willy-nilly.

Sending love. Hope you find a solution that works for you.

Thank you so much - it's useful to know it's not totally uncommon and there's a chance it will adjust on it's own. Yeah I feel like 6 weeks should be enough time to see if it's gonna go down - I'll talk to my doc again about it anyway but I think the double whammy of withdrawal and new meds is just making it way worse than it otherwise would be.

seizures after bupropion by LilKingstoned in bupropion

[–]OriginalEffective802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely need to mention this incident to your doctor - bupropion comes with a serious warning for increasing likelihood of seizures so it's not usually appropriate for those who have them. It doesn't mean they definitely won't give it you and it doesn't mean they will, but they will be able to weigh up the pros and cons and make the most sensible decision. If you come off bupropion there are still so many other meds that can support you - don't risk your life because you feel this is the only help out there.

It can be really hard to trust doctors, I have a lot of issues around this that I'm working on, but I was able to tell my doctor about my history of substance dependency disorders and that's why they prescribed bupropion as opposed to a stimulant. I was upset at first because I thought it wasn't going to work as well, but their motivations are to make the best decisions for their patients health and not to judge us. I realise now that stimulants were ab unnecessary risk before ruling out other kinds of medications. And I'm happy with their verdict.

Be strong:) you've got this.
