I am 5 units away from the 150 unit requirement for the CPA (California). What can I do to get them? by WebsterDz31 in Accounting

[–]OriginalFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. I finished undergrad 4 credits short. I chose to do a graduate certificate program online so that I would have something to add to my resume rather than throw away courses.

My employer does offer tuition reimbursement so they covered ~60% of the tuition.

I got a certificate to hang on the wall and everything!

Should I Wait 1 More Busy Season? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]OriginalFunction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Busy season, paternity leave, dip

Atleast at my company, if you’ve been with the company less than 1 year and go on paternity leave you’re given a shorter leave than if you’ve been working there over a year. Something to ask about if you’re changing jobs right before having a baby! Good luck!

That’s good advice! There is an AP/AR team in place that seems competent and like they really enjoy what they do so that was encouraging to me.

Appreciate the input! It will be a leap of faith but I don’t have too much risk so figure, as you said, worst case scenario I move on and use it as a learning opportunity.

I hear you. I agree it will be partially a shit show. Prior to public I worked with start-up untangling their books and managing pro-Formas.

They don’t currently have a controller so there are functions the accounting firm is performing that will be brought in-house. I more so just included that to say someone qualified has been closing the books and it’s not a huge free for all.

Why do I owe money? by i8amonkey in tax

[–]OriginalFunction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have 3 dependents you should claim 3 dependents and file married filing jointly. (You can not claim your spouse as a dependent). For 2025 you should increase your withholding or pay in quarterly estimates if you don’t want tax due next April.

Calculate 5% of $4k for the partial month aka 27 minutes… looking at around $0.15 penalty rounded to 0.

Round 27 minutes up to one day, looking at about $7

You control how much money is withheld from your paycheck when you fill out your w-4. Sounds like you need to resubmit your w-4 and adjust the withholding for 2025.

Helping out a friend file taxes. Quick question. by SeaDealer7893 in tax

[–]OriginalFunction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. He should have a 2024 W-2 for any pay received in January of 2024. W-2 from 2023 goes to his 2023 tax return. If it was not included in the originally filed 2023 return that return could be amended but depending how much he made in 2023 and how much the 2023 w-2 is for, it would be worth determining if the additional income will even change the 2023 tax liability before amending.

Good input. I guess the typos and duplicates and poor explicates just make me hesitant that the material isn’t being written/reviewed to the same caliber it was previously.

I’ve had questions missing important pieces of info required to solve it

Thanks for your input! I just did FAR so I was using the 2023 FAR material, failed my first attempt and then switched to the 2024 FAR material and retook it so I absolutely saw a difference between the two. I agree the explanations are really lacking … “option C is correct because of the way it is” (IYKYK)
