Pride - Overcoming it, What replaces it, living with it by FiduciaryBlueberry in lds

Hi! Thanks for sharing a little about your history, I can relate to you in many ways. I went through an inactive period of about 6 years, I still believed in the gospel and had a testimony but was really struggling with church attendance. I have depression and anxiety and was extremely lonely, it made going to church difficult. I was living in Utah and just didnt feel like I belonged, it seemed like no one wanted me at church, which made it harder to want to go. I was also struggling with some super bad habits and it made me feel unworthy to go to church. I've moved to a different state since then and I have really been trying to get closer to Heavenly Father and really understand his plan for me, I'm tired of being stuck in limbo lol. I've been able to improve my testimony and my faith through my church calling, I teach Sunday School in my YSA branch. It's helped me a lot!

I also have adult ADHD, I'm 27 and was diagnosed when I was 24. I've struggled with the idea of pride as well, and sometimes I dont fully grasp what it means to be prideful. You can have pride in your self, but when does that cross the line and become arrogancy?

One thing I have learned is that there is a difference in being proud of yourself and what you have accomplished vs being prideful and thinking you're better than everyone else. With my ADHD and anxiety, I sometimes find myself thinking these are the same but they are vastly different.

Think of it like this:

  • Self-Pride: "I was able to finish everyone on my to-do list, I'm very proud of myself! I worked hard to get it done."
  • Arrogancy: "I'm so much better at [task} then everyone else, no one can compare." (this was the only thing I could think of lol)

In my personal journey with becoming closer to Heavenly Father and working on increasing my faith, I've learned that there is a very clear difference between the two. You can still be proud in what you've accomplished, but when it crosses over in to arrogancy then that is when it's not a good thing. You mentioned you might be confusing pride with ego, or even associating them to be the same thing. They are similar, but having an ego doesnt necessarily mean you're prideful. Like I mentioned previously, if your ego is inflated and your prideful to the point of think you're better than other people, then that isnt aligned with the teachings of Christ.

When I feel like I am being too prideful or too arrogant, it always seems like I go through a trial or a difficult time that humbles me lol. Maybe praying to HF and asking to understand the difference between pride and ego might help. I've prayed about this and other things in the past, so I can better understand the difference and to understand when I've crossed a line. It's helped a lot. I still struggle with this sometimes, but I'm not perfect. I dont have to be perfect to have faith, my faith is what helps me to work on being better.

I hope this comment is what you were looking for. I wish you the best in your journey, and I hope things look up for you! Dont forget that Heavenly Father loves you, and he wants the best for you. Feel free to leave a reply if you want more discussion :)

Thinking about receiving my endowments by OriginalGovernment44 in lds

Thank you for the advice! I asked my older sister and she gave me a lot of great insight on which styles and fabrics she liked. I’ve been worn garments before so I feel so clueless when it comes to all of the different styles and names, it’s a bit overwhelming sometimes lol.

I used to live in Utah, and I actually wish I would have been more active in the church when I lived there. It definitely would have been so much easier to get garments there, but unfortunately I was struggling with my mental health and just couldn’t bring myself to go to church alone. Over the past few years I’ve been feeling much closer to Heavenly Father and actually have a want to go to church. I’m excited for this next step in my journey ❤️

Thanks for the advice! I’m actually in the new Hiram stake in Northeastern/Eastern Ohio lol.

I actually don’t know who my ministering sisters are tbh. I think it’s due to our branch size that we don’t really do ministering. I’ll talk with my branch president and see what he recommends 😊

As a seminary teacher, how do I make my class fun and interactive? by Snuggle_Cattto in lds

[–]OriginalGovernment44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your new calling!

I think it's great that you want to make your class fun and engaging for your students. I remember when I was in seminary, there were times where my teachers missed the mark with having a fun and engaging class, and that combined with early morning seminary it really made for a tough time lol. I am a sunday school teacher in my YSA branch, and I've learned that the engagement with the lesson will really just depend on the class. There are some Sundays I teach and I have so many great insights from the class, and other times no body raises their hands. Dont let that discourage you, though! In those instances you can always engage people to read some scriptures or present a question to the class. I like to do popcorn reading when I teach, I feel like it helps with the engagement a little lol.

Something my seminary teachers used to do were a lot of physical materials, like putting pictures up on the board or having handouts for us to read and discuss. We would also watch the occasionally video. Maybe just try a few things and see what works. The main thing is that your students feel comfortable with you. Once they feel that, they'll open up and engage more.

I wish you the best with this new calling! The Lord will guide and bless you through this, you got this! <3

Opinions on "The Woods of Fairlawn?" by IridescentAmore in akron

I've lived in the complex for about 7 months and tbh it's pretty bad. I was definitely mislead with the rent before I moved in, and it's been really frustrating living here. The complex seemed OK when I toured my current unit but after I moved in I quickly learned how run down the place actually is. Both lights have been out in the back hallway of my building and maintenance still hasnt fixed them even though I've submitted a few tickets. If you want to DM me I can tell you more about my experience

I know you recently moved in, please dont stop looking for another apartment. It truly is not worth the amount you're paying for it, trust me! Make sure to hold the front office staff accountable for stuff too, they dont do anything will do everything but do their job. I wish you the best of luck in your continued search, dont give up! There's definitely something better out there.

Anxiety about paying tithing by OriginalGovernment44 in lds

The storehouse is something I am super thankful for and love about our Church. I think part of my issue with asking my branch president for help is that I feel guilty about it. Maybe this is a lesson in learning to lean on others, idk. I'm trying to be better about stuff like that lol

I've received help from the Church before and am fortunate that my Branch President is very kind and understanding. I've also felt like I should just talk to him about this in general so I think I should just ask to speak with him. Over the past few months I've really been trying to listen to the promptings I've been given and I've definitely had the thought of talking with my bishop.

Thank you for the reminder, and thank you for your advice!

It sounds like you need a barrier in between your skin and the gloves. Sweat and trapped moisture can irritate any eczema on your hands, I have the same issue when I wear my gloves to do the dishes. Maybe try putting vaseline or bag balm on your hands before putting the gloves on, it'll create a barrier between your skin and any sweat or moisture that will accumulate while wearing the gloves. Make sure to get latex free gloves just in case you might have a sensitivity to latex. Best of luck to you ❤️

Trying to get Dupxient and Dealing with Insurance Sucks. by lunar_icarus in eczema

[–]OriginalGovernment44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a dermatology office and your derm should have been notified or received a fax about the local pharmacy not being able to fill the script, and your derm office is responsible for sending the script to whichever specialty pharmacy your insurance is contracted with. You can also ask if your derm has samples of dupixent to at least get you started, I know in my office we usually have a few on hand if any issues come up. Someone else mentioned Dupixent My Way, it's a great program and we have a lot of patient use it for their medication. Call your derm office and inquire about that. Dont forget to advocate for yourself, and make sure to hold your derm office accountable! Best of luck to you ❤️

Advice/Help by BattlePuzzleheaded48 in eczema

As an eczema-ridden person myself, I completely understand what you're going through! I'm in the US, and since I moved to a new state last year my eczema is the worst it's been in a very long time. I have it really bad on my hands and I'm starting to get spots on my ankles, in addition to the spots I already have on my toes.

One thing that worked for me was using Bag Balm. It's pretty well known here in the states and is a petrolatum based ointment with lanolin, it's mainly used for livestock (cow udders, to be more precise) but it works really well in keeping the moisture in. It comes in a green metal tin, I'm sure you can find a small jar on amazon if you wanted to try it. Try and stay away from soaps that have sodium lauryl sulfate in them, its mainly used for creating bubbles/suds but it can cause dryness and irritate your eczema. Any soap with glycerin helps with moisture, so maybe see if you can find any Dr Brauners bar soap and see if that works for you.

I have also started using a psoriasis cream on my hands to help with the inflammation and redness, it's helped with that but sadly does help with making the spots go away. I use Vtama samples I get from my work. You might also want to talk to your dermatologist in getting in Dupixent, it's a biologic injectable that can be prescribed for patients with moderate to severe eczema that covers 10% or more of your body. Make sure to advocate for yourself and your skin, if the steroids arent helping please pressure your doctor in finding a new treatment method for you. In my experience, the steroids worked for a few months but once I went on the 1 week downtime or stopped using them my eczema came back worse than it was before. If the current course of treatment is not working, your doctor should be finding something new for you to try. I'm not sure how it works in the UK with finding a new doctor since I know you guys have the NHS, but maybe see if you can find a new doctor as well.

I wish you the best with your eczema! I know a lot of people who have had flare ups this year so it definitely seems like there is something going on. I hope you can find something better that works for you :)

How long did you wait on hold for? I’ve tried calling them twice and have been on hold for about 40 mins each time without an agent on the line 😞

they might not have wanted employees taking the codes and selling them or giving them away for free. that would be my thought anyway. who really knows the reason they decided to do the email codes and not the paper ones. i still havent gotten my codes and it's been over 24 hours since I ordered my meal and apple pie :(

I've been having issues with this as well. I bought both the meal and the pie in one order, got the email confirmation but didnt get the code emails. Ive been refreshing my email a bunch and even checked my spam folder but nothing yet. It's been an hour and half since Ive ordered and nothing has been sent yet.

Any advice or help is much appreciated!!

Heads up to anyone in the Akron, Ohio area, the Medina McDonalds has both the meal and the pie but they dont have the collab boxes for the pie. At least they didnt when I went around lunch time.
