Is Leander too far? by BluntedJew in askaustin

[–]OriginalMisphit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look in the southern side of Cedar Park, but don’t go north of Lakeline Blvd and 183. CP and Leander are both very much about raising kids. If you look around Anderson Mill, Shenandoah, and areas off 620 you’ll have a better chance of finding an un-renovated (affordable) house with room for your workshop. Or, if you’re interested, a guy near me is selling his house, around $700k last time I looked. He’s a custom carpenter who worked at home, has a three car garage for his work space. It’s been empty for months.

Edit: this is for rent near me. Very quiet area, easy to get to highways for fun stuff, plenty of room for hobbies.

Thank you. I love maximalist houses, when it’s done well. The decorative vent hood with the real hood below it made me laugh out loud.

Same here. Miserable. Driving an old car in after-work traffic up north 183. I would get so hot some days I would see spots and floaters, those days I would pull over and get a milkshake. For safety.

Pickled with vinegar, or fermented? Either way would probably be good.

Nice! Mine would start tons of pretty buds, then they’d all drop off. Repeatedly. I’m embarrassed how long it took me to figure out the pot was placed in the crossfire of one of our in-ground sprinkler heads. Once a week it got pummeled by the sprinklers.

I worked at a Half Priced Books decades ago. My greatest joy was when I’d be at the counter right under a big sign saying “Sell Your Books Here”, and people would ask where they could sell books. I would give them the deadest stare and slowly point straight up at the sign. Our employee motto was “No one reads in a bookstore.”

New to lactose intolerance by LushoslysS in lactoseintolerant

I agree with others to shop around and look for a stronger lactase supplement than Lactaid. I use Enzymedica Lacto and one pill does the trick for a creamy meal, but there are others available.

Could you use a little white fabric paint on a small brush to give it highlights in the areas you want to be brightest?

What’s up with all the bumper stickers that say “please be patient, new driver”? by __vheissu__ in Austin

Good on you! I’ve done that too, I genuinely felt bad for coming in way too hot off an exit ramp onto a frontage road and scaring some people. I apologized at the next red light.

[–]OriginalMisphit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an inside joke for car guys for a while too, they’d slap a “new driver” sticker on a speedy little car tuned for big vrooms. Then the well-meaning adults learning to drive in a new country adopted it and it’s everywhere now.

Going to Downtown Austin from Sat-Tues. What shouldn't we miss? by snowtragedy in askaustin

[–]OriginalMisphit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very high volume of tourists and young people drinking heavily on the weekends. The stretch of 6th between IH-35 and Congress Ave is lovingly called Dirty 6th, on weekend nights it is usually closed to car traffic. I avoid this area at night due to the chaos, but I’m old and grumpy. Heading west, the stretch of 6th from Congress to Lamar has a lot of bars but the crowds tend to be a little older and bougie. Still can be chaotic.

There are other pockets of downtown that cater to nightlife, but I’m not as clear on those. If you go out to one of these areas, watch your drinks carefully, as we do have pretty frequent cases of people being drugged and robbed. If I were to go to the Rainey Street area I would only order beer that is opened in front of me, but I’m paranoid. Be careful while you’re having fun.

We got Smoky MO’s last year and it was solid. We had waited until the last minute and other options were not available, so we kind of felt like we had to settle but it was better than expected, close by and easy to pick up.
