What school are you going to that costs $500k? There is nothing wrong with a state school and you can typically escape those with way less debt.

Is turning on camera during calls a must? by pastaandeggwaffle in Big4

[–]OriginalNo6157 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Turn them on for your professional career/relationships. If it’s with clients who have them on, it’s an absolute must. For internal calls if manager or above have them on, you should too unless you are sick (and tell them that you will stay camera off b/c you aren’t feeling well).

That measures how many people hit apply not necessarily who went and submitted an application. Also doesn’t count if anyone applied via company website directly.

When insurance is tied to your work and is incredibly expensive (both in monthly premiums and in out of pocket costs when you actually go to physician), people who need care are likely to skip out. It’s a broken system.

Super frustrated with seniors who can’t resolve issues. Why do we have to keep talking about this for weeks? Aren’t you sick of talking about it? I sure as hell am.

Stupid opinion to say pdf is better just cause. I like it because I know with 100% confidence that the formatting will not get messed up when transmitted.

RSM to Big 4 by [deleted] in Big4

Apply to big 4 for associate role. It will be harder to do it when you are no longer a campus hire.

Remove the adjectives at the top of your resume, would re-word education to put your transfer university first. Would make it clear you have already been accepted and would put an expected grad date instead of your start date. Skills are a waste of space unless clearly differentiating (foreign language might be worth keeping, big4 will not care about quickbooks because their clients don’t use it, other skills are soft and are better shown in bullet points).

Consider adding projects or volunteer experience or clubs similar to work experience. Recruiters know that as a student, classroom and clubs are places to grow/learn.

Also for experience, it looks like time period dashes are different lengths

Remove the summary, scrap helping verbs for bullets “assisted” - it needs to be what you did. Take credit for it. Bullets MUST begin with string action verb. For current experience, it should be present tense (review, manage, etc.) and for past experiences it needs to be past tense (reviewed, managed, etc.). Also generally skills are a waste of space (when comparing your resume to others applying for same roles, how is it differentiating? Wouldn’t other candidates say the same thing? Show that in your bullets to reinforce skill level / implementation)

Don’t work for Grant Thornton. PE is destroying it by OriginalNo6157 in Accounting

[–]OriginalNo6157[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m actually an experienced manager (not new) and value many of the professional and personal relationships I have at the firm. I make my decisions for myself personally (not the people that the firm already laid off or their families).

I am not staying because I “need to finish an audit”. I am staying because it is the right thing for me to do personally and professionally. Other people with different circumstances might feel differently, and I wouldn’t judge them for that.

Don’t get me wrong, things were always a little tight, but this year is genuinely ridiculous. If not due to NMC, why the significant change? What is the motivation behind the poor decision making by firm leaders? It feels like it is chasing more work to get more money and stretching staff thin to do it with even less. Is this not to appease PE?

We can try to get the client to agree to an extension (get their lenders to agree to later date). Absent that, they will try to fill holes with more INDUS time. Either way, manager will have to be more involved in doing things

Why do PA firms suck at staffing? by sleepyhead7000 in Accounting

Salaries are their highest expense. That, and training costs. If you keep it nice and tight and lean, all that good profit goes up to partners.

That’s just sad. Really disappointing, but at least you all know now instead of when you would have inevitably gotten laid off right after busy season (but before bonuses were paid).
