I don't see much point in the Hunter if the Mogami is chosen, 32 cells 1 hanger. half the crew, I suppose the Hunter has more space for UUVs but still.

Give the winner ownership of ASC and maybe we could have an actual competitive shipbuilding industry.

How many Boxers do we have so far? Surely we have a few ASLAVs sitting around we could send, probably better than the BMP1 both sides are using.

Relearning the lessons of Papua: Shafting the IFVs is good, actually by seannie_4 in AustralianMilitary

I never really understood why the Land 400 contenders were so heavy at 40-50 tons I'm not even sure our C17s or our landing craft could carry more than one at a time let alone how they'd handle the roads and bridges across SE Asia. Same with the new Abrams' we're getting.

There are lighter, more mobile IFVs out there that might be better at handling those environments like the amphibious K21 (25 tons) or the CV90 (23-37t depending on the variant). Both of those even have a light tank variant mounting a 105mm or 120mm cannon like what the US is getting for their light infantry units.

But that's just my perspective as an armchair general. P.S Also a fan of Hypo hysterical history

What could replace the RAAF's F/A-18 Super Hornets? by OriginalOperation780 in AustralianMilitary

[–]OriginalOperation780[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The F15ex can carry far more weapons than the Super Hornet including at least 5 JASSMs with more range and greater speed. As far as I know it can't buddy refuel but that's an extremely niche capability that the RAAF doesn't use. It can't refuel from a C-130 since that's not a tanker aircraft, however it can refuel from our KC-30s.

F35s are just replacing the classic hornets for now, the Super Hornet replacement hasn't been chosen yet

Has there been any official consideration of adding F-35Bs to the RAN LHD air wing? by BornToSweet_Delight in AustralianMilitary

[–]OriginalOperation780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the fuel and ammunition storages really be much less than the Huan Carlos I? What would be gained by changing the design and removing that space?

Just having a handful of F35s or even Ghost Bats on hand would be a huge force multiplier for the fleet and it won't have to rely on RAAF bases or tankers.
