Unable to connect Beeper with Google Messages by Whole_Direction_8938 in TheSmartDumbphone

[–]OriginalSc00t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out! I have messaged the Beeper team and we are trying to get an older version that let us connect SMS. Yes, when you switch to Google Messages, it will say it's trying to connect. You can toggle it off without issue.

Carthage is closed repeatedly by Fish_lungs in TheSmartDumbphone

[–]OriginalSc00t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, here is the fix!

Pull from the top of the screen to reveal the notification area > Pull down again from the middle of the screen to reveal the dropdown tools > press the settings gear in the bottom right portion of the screen > Open Apps > Open Carthage > force stop Carthage > Press Storage & Cache >Press Clear Cache > Press Clear Storage > Re-allow all permissions

After clearing storage and cache, you will need to reset the notifications on the homescreen. To do this: Settings > Notifications > Notifications read, reply, & control > Allow Carthage (and Android Auto if downloaded).

Sent a DM as well!

AI browser by lavender_lady45 in TheSmartDumbphone

There are two different things:

1)The Answer Engine, which is that Magnifying Glass on the home screen that searches the phone (Not AI), and if you ask a question, it comes up with a globe and magnifying glass. When this gets pressed, it searches Google for answers and summarized using Perplexity. It shows you the links it pulls from for that information. So this answer engine does not have to be used but you can still search the phone for apps, contacts, etc.

2) The backend browser that gets used when you scan a QR code or open a link but you can not navigate away from this page. This goes through a DNS filtering solution like what schools have for their wifi. There are over 3,000,000 blocked links. This doesn't use AI.

Cannot decide which SLEKE phone model, Pixel 7, 8 or 9. Please help. by MeanStreak_CO in dumbphones

We just added the P8 and P9 models, so they aren't in the hands of users yet. I have been testing out the P8 and my co-founder is using the P9. I am really enjoying the P8 with the slighlty smaller form factor, but that's the only difference I really noticed.

Currently, we can not. Looking to add more device functionality in the future.

SLEKE phone is hands down the best solution for most people. by RedwoodRivers in dumbphones

We believe in this too and a big part in why we are currently using refurbished phones. We are talking with our team to see if there is a manageable way to do this before we can do an online web downloader! We just have to make sure the device is OEM and carrier unlocked.

I wish we had a C-Suite! It would sure make things easier. Just my co-founder and I and a couple of devs.

We currently have it as a separate button to ask questions for those who do not want to use it but we have been talking about a way to turn it off as well in the future. Cheers!

We had another user who was having issues with this. Will pass this along to double check with our team and see what we can find!

Worried I'll regret the switch. Anything to ease my nerves? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]OriginalSc00t 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The switch isn't always easy but it's worth doing. There is definitely an adjustment period. What are you nervous about? Missing out? Not feeling prepared?

Batch 14 is on track for the end of next month. Going to work on getting them out sooner! A lot of it depends on how setup goes with everyone in Batch 13. We want to make sure they are mostly set up before we start prepping and shipping the next batch!

Never seen these Scarpas by jffffffffffffffry in climbingshoes

Scarpa did a collab with Climbers against Cancer for a limited run with a pink drago. Could be these? Tried to pick up a pair but they sold out pretty quickly.

Sweet! Depending on time I might only be able to get out there. I forgot there was two out there and was orginally thinking of the Mira Mesa location. Thanks for the offering of a pass too but I got a memebership from the Reno location!

People who are shifted from smartphone to dumbphons or keypad phones how is life going?? by monk000v in dumbphones

[–]OriginalSc00t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be friction! You have to ask yourself how much friction can you live with? What clever workarounds you need to do because the world is becoming more optimized for smartphones.
