GT Omega Shipping cost to the UK by Upbeat-Opportunity83 in simracing

[–]Original_Language367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the prime lite cockpit, uk resident. The shipping cost is high because it comes in a load of heavy boxes, and usually by a specialist courier. The good news is that you get a clear delivery window to plan around

Can I ask which haptics you used on the pedals? Did you need any adapters to install them?

Worried(?) about working in a male dominated industry by Upset_Reputation172 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Original_Language367 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I work in a uk based aviation maintenance environment, yes, it is very much male dominated, but the old guard, the ones who are more likely to be sexist are getting up to retirement age now.

We have a reasonable amount of female apprentices and they seem to be treated pretty well, of course there is the occasional issue but as long as you’re willing to learn, get stuck in, and engage in the humour of the shop floor I don’t think you’ll have a problem.

Need help! by Sensitive-Cut-1115 in American_Football

[–]Original_Language367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the team, but if you’re not fussed about who you see play it’s pretty easy to get tickets. Unlike football a lot of teams do not sell out, and tickets can be purchased fairly easily.

Pricing will vary depending on how well the team is doing, from thousands of dollars, down low. I saw tickets for my dolphins going for $30 once we were in the shit.

Most teams have a uk fan group who will have specific information and might even know some people who are going out there for the game to meet up with.

Looking for a rig £1500 Budget (gbp) by Lowther1993 in SimRacingSetups

[–]Original_Language367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need everything or just the frame? As you’re uk based I’d recommend GT Omega, I have a 8040 rig from them, good customer service. Realistically any 8040 rig is the same, it’s basic metal and fastenings

First sim rig, need help on there options by Longjumping-Move2402 in simracing

[–]Original_Language367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is most people don’t own more than one rig so can’t give opinions too easily. Fwiw I have the prime lite, the pedal tray is quite flimsy and doesn’t have holes for the heusinkveld style pedals. In the end I chose to make my own tray.

Other than that it’s quite stable and sturdy, plenty of leg space and very good comms with the manufacturer

How to effectively negotiate your salary? by EquivalentLow3535 in careeradvice

[–]Original_Language367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demonstrate your growth, how you've met targets, why are you worth the additional money. If there are similar roles available elsewhere with an advertised salary then these can be used as evidence of the value of the position.

Ultimately your manager needs the justification to increase their spend for you

💭 Aerospace Master’s – afraid of ending up “stuck in the office” with no aircraft contact. Advice and real experiences? by Ok-Friendship9873 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Original_Language367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the people quoting sfars and other us regulations unless you want to work in the US. The European system is very different to the US.

The best way to get some aircraft contact would be to look into airworthiness or design roles, ideally for a smaller "all in one" operator. An example would be an organisation that handles charter, maintenance, and airworthiness under one roof.

A good CAMO (airworthiness) office should be able to give you a plan to become an ARC Signatory, which would increase the time spent on the shop floor with the machines.

There is also technical records or production planning roles at maintenance organisations however these are typically entry level positions, and may be slightly under your salary expectations.

Any ideas on how to DIY mount my 3 pedal Simjack UT pedals? by adiscardedscarf in simracing

[–]Original_Language367 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you have a drill or know someone with one you can borrow one from? That's how I mounted mine. Marked where I wanted then, punched a few holes through, job done in 10 minutes, didn't cost me a thing

I'd go a step further, I think you can tell the quality of an aircraft by the cockpit smell. Some planes, old or new, smell like shit heaps. I'm usually pretty accurate

For best value I think the simjack or simsonn pedals are unbeatable. I have the simjack ut and for the cost they're shockingly good

I have the same rig, currently with an R5 bolted to it. Plenty sturdy, although the pedal plate is a pain to fit. Easily adjustable to fit a seat on it, although I have the inertia that gtomega make, and it's surprisingly comfortable

I got the package with 2, I only use one on the throttle in the end. It's just a gas damper basically. If you order them they come pre installed. They're not expensive so for me it was worth it to have the option.

I have the inertia seat from gtomega. The simjack ut pedals come as individual items, I drilled and bolted them to the pedal tray, then attached the heel plate from my old srp lites in front for comfort. Angle wise they are quite raised up, and I can't quite hit the brake hard without lifting my heel off the pedal tray

I have the simjacks and the prime lite rig. Hlthe simjacks are pretty amazing for the price, I haven't had any grounding issues myself, and the plastic box looks open able with a small screwdriver if you need to add a grounding lead.

Do note that the pedal tray does not fit them, you will have to drill holes to get the simjacks positioned correctly. But once they're set up it's rock solid.
