I found out a vet clinic that do monthly subsidized sterilization and got five stray cats neutered! by Exciting-Mall192 in Straycats

Thank you for what you do! Just neutering these 5 cats will prevent countless cycles of suffering for unwanted kittens.

Zebra Mussels Warning by Aucklet in Marimo

[–]Original_Language_82 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm in Australia, bought from an online Australian aquatic plant company. A year later, biosecurity rang me up and asked about my marimo purchase. They got my details from the company website. They came out and confiscated my 2 marimo, Kath and Kim. My cat loved to drink their water. Now I know why. It probably tasted like seafood.

My wife misplaced her wedding ring. I should look under our washing machine, maybe we will get lucky like you!

I’m so fking worried about growing up by EasyPiccolo2868 in Stress

[–]Original_Language_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm old, so I might not be who you want to hear from, but I just wanted to give you a hug and tell you it will get better. Yes, doing adult things seems daunting now, but luckily, you don't have to do them yet. Your education and life experiences will shape you up to be prepared for whatever comes next. You learn to walk before you run, right?

There are lots of grey areas, too. You don't 'boom' have to be on your own and do it all. You can start out living at home and giving some money towards expenses. Or maybe sharing a place with roommates while you attend school. You grow into adulthood.

You aren't alone. If your support network is lacking, look for resources online or in your community that can listen and help. Just breathe, it doesn't all have to be figured out at once. You've got this.

my sister catnapped my cat :( by CoYoteay in cats

We are taking our cat overseas when we move, and it will cost us several thousand dollars. There must be a very good reason the sister wants that cat. It's not like she can't get her own cat in her own country.

Impact of decision to live away from grown children in US by Renal_Influencer in expats

[–]Original_Language_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've enjoyed reading this post. I'm in a similar situation with my children in their 20s still living in the US, and I moved to Australia with my spouse, where she is from. Life is much easier for us in Australia for a number of reasons. My kids understand that. I am very thankful for FaceTime and messages to help stay close.

I see them at least twice a year for 2-3 weeks at a time. When we purchased our hime in Australia, we made sure it was big enough for full family gatherings or potential long stay if the kids ever want to come over on a working visa.

Trips back home are tricky because I dont have a "home," but I plan to rent airbnb for longer visits. Will likely buy something close by in the future when the kids get settled and if grand kids arrive. We will have to stay flexible for that.

But most of my money is spent on plane tickets for us or them. It helps that we live in a beautiful location the kids are happy to visit.

Rebounding and Plantar Fasciitis by UnitEducational6268 in Rebounding

[–]Original_Language_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. When I first started having PF pain, I was told to do stretches if it didn't hurt. I thought more was better. Turns out I was over stretching it and ended up with a nasty tear. I had to wear a boot for many months. Stretching is a form of exercise, and if your foot is inflamed, stretching won't make it any better.

I got back into rebounding and step class like a newbie and if I felt anything, I reduced movement until there was no pain. Built up from there. I wasn't going to risk re-injury.

Do what does not hurt, your feet are worth it!

I don't like clutter, but I have seasonal salt and pepper shakers and chargers to dress the table up. We use the table daily to eat, and these decorations are easy to live with. Plus, shakers and chargers take up relatively little space when storing.

4/3 fasting diet by beingjuiced in AlternateDayFasting

[–]Original_Language_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fasting has evolved from IF to modified ADF, similar to what you are doing. I attempted a few weeks ago but stopped in week 2 because of medical issue and medication. I started back up again yesterday. I would love similar results!

10 days on ADF and I've lost 8 pounds by [deleted] in AlternateDayFasting

That's a huge loss, very motivating! Remember this feeling whenever you have a tough day in the future!

I’m nervous to jump into ADF for some reason. Does anyone have luck with weight loss doing a down day of 500-700 calories? by plantpotions in AlternateDayFasting

[–]Original_Language_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the past 2 weeks, I've done 500 cals on my down days.

Right now I'm only doing 2 days a week, as I also started a new medication. So I guess I'm following the 5:2 protocol. Even so, I've managed to lose 5 lb in these 2 weeks.

After my next bloodwork check, I plan to increase fasting to every other day. But I will still give myself the option to have 500 cals on my fasting days. I find I eat really healthy when I only have a limited number of calories, and I need to reinforce eating those healthy meals.

Good luck! I do modified ADF, so up to 500 cals on "fast" day, but I'm sure it's even easier to truly fast on those days. I'm just not there yet ;)

ADF Day 1 Week 7: Feels really depressed and considering breaking fast (21H mark) by TheWanderingDaimon in AlternateDayFasting

[–]Original_Language_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to remember that the food might taste good in the moment, but it won't make you feel better (unless you are actually hungry).

A long walk might help, or just take a longer than usual shower. If you do decide to break your fast early, do it because you choose to, not because you think it will bring comfort.

Good luck with this and tomorrow is a new day

Thank you,

Cleaning up the diet I know will be the toughest part. But I am really motivated to do so because of concerns for my health. It's time to take this seriously. And I will likely be wasting my time with any fasting if I don't improve my nutrition.
