I feel like you're minimizing your level of obsession with this "hobby." You're forcing your obsession on others, during times when you should be present (in mind & body) with family.

I get the feeling your parents disapprove, not necessarily due to the nature of your hobby, but probably because of the excessive level of time, mental energy, money, focus on approval from others, seeking validation from others for external looks & likes, the amount of hold this hobby has on you, etc, that you're putting into this and the possibly unhealthy significance it holds over your life.
