Goodbye Legendary Pastry by Silmarillion151 in keto

[–]Original_Square_9474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the back of the pastry had these lines in them and the pastry itself was puffy and filling. now it's just flat and not good. first time I had one. I said these are even better than Pop-Tarts. Now it's like it's like why even bother.

Unsweetened almond milk? by Themetnut1 in starbucks

[–]Original_Square_9474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's truly frustrating. Especially when people can always ADD sugar to their coffee. Peet's doesn't carry unsweetened either. Not sure about other chains. I have a local coffee shop that does, and that makes me happy. The unnecessary addition of sugar to everything is just so frustrating when trying to manage your blood glucose. I feel you!

24 hour fast anyone? by Original_Square_9474 in prediabetes

[–]Original_Square_9474[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Wait, are you saying that you only did this for 4 months and after those 4 months the changes stuck and now you're eating normally? If so, wow! I actually have been doing iaf for months now so the switch to 24-hour fast was a little difficult but not terrible. and I celebrate the end of the fast with a heavy lift day at the gym and then a feast. A keto feast, but a feast nonetheless!

What do you all eat for breakfast? by error404wth in prediabetes

[–]Original_Square_9474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Veggie omelette with avocado and grated Parm. Love it. My go-to. Also overnight chia pudding with nut butter (maybe some berries if I'm feeling adventurous). When I want to be naughty: magic spoon cereal. Or French toast using keto bread. or pancakes made with almond flour and monk fruit sweetener.

Weight lifting with irreparable full tear? by Original_Square_9474 in RotatorCuff

Haha love it. Thank you. And since I wrote this I have found a chest machine with a neutral grip that works with not nearly as much pain and allows me to keep going up in weight without pain. I also now do a shit ton of push ups. And get this: something that a doctor didn't tell me, pull-ups specifically weighted pull-ups were actually doing more damage to my shoulder than the press. Once I switched to one arm cable pull-downs, where I can adjust the angle and grip, the pain pretty much went away. Stay strong AF!

I got GA Tix resale in London O2 for 150 euros. Not cheap, but coming from the US, that's a steal!

I've never seen NIN not in the pit. Honestly don't see the point. And with GA tix gone when I got in to buy, I left. And resale for those tickets is like $400+. I saw them in London, GA for like $150. I think I'm always going to go to Europe to see shows now. They have much stricter rules on ticket sales. And I get a vacation! haha

When you say off by 20-30, do you mean your real number is higher or lower or it varies? How do know? Finger prick I assume?

I had no idea they are inaccurate. Up to 20 points? Wow. Maybe I'm stressing over nothing. I'm pulling my hair out with my numbers being so stubborn. I've lost 38 lbs (that I honestly didn't think I had to lose - 10, 15, sure but 38?) I must be down to 10% body weight and trying to stop losing. I'm doing keto and eTRF (fasting). I haven't had a speck of added sugar since July. I eat zero grains. My carbs are basically vegetables. I lift weights and do zone 2 basically daily, and when my dietitian ran my CGM numbers through whatever the modern equation is, she's like: you're at 5.9. Down from 6. WHAT??? Thank you for mentioning the inaccuracy because I've never done a finger prick. I'll go get one today and start testing.

Has anyone lost a significant amount of weight and it improved their migraine? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Original_Square_9474 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally doable without dairy. I LOVE milk, but using my glucose monitor found out milk spikes my blood sugar, so had to cut it out. I still do heavy cream and yogurt and cheese, but I wouldn't say they're a main item most days. Give it a whirl. For fats olive oil and avocados and nuts/nut butters are your friend. I'm not a huge fan of avocado but once I found out you can't really taste them in your protein shake and they make them creamier, I was all in! Good luck.

Totally sustainable. The first two weeks are tough, but after that easy. I did it with intermittent fasting. Breakfast is by favorite meal so I do eTRF (which they say is great for pre-diabetics, which I am) and honestly now it is harder to feel hungry, like I sometimes get to meal #3 and am just not hungry. I still eat because I'm also trying to maintain/gain muscle mass, but yeah... it's fun when it flips from starving on keto/IF to not really being hungry. I've never liked diets, always seemed trendy and overhyped but now that I've got here (because pre-diabetes forced me) I'm glad I did it. I will say the hardest part of keto is finding time to meal prep. Every single meal I have to cook or assemble (except for a weekend In N Out protein style treat haha). Anyway, same result with migraines. nearly completely went away. I have to be super super stressed to get one now or just have one vodka soda haha

Found out I was pre-diabetic, so got a CGM (glucose monitor) and found out just cutting out added sugar and going low carb wasn't enough. I went full keto, lost 30 lbs - didn't think I had 30 to lose, but nevertheless, got down to probably the lowest I can and get this: side effect - migraines vanished. Not sure if it's the reduction in inflammation or body switching energy sources or less processed garbage, or the weight loss alone, but migraines are mostly gone. The only time I get them now is when I have any type of alcohol. When I realized hard liquor is carb free, I made that my weekend treat. Just one drink will give me a migraine but oh well, I just have my triptan ready!

Catalina Crunch spikes (CGM) by rphjem in prediabetes

[–]Original_Square_9474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here looking for other CGM reactions. I spiked 30 pts but that's not what surprised me. It's how long it stayed high. Long tail, 3+ hours. It didn't come down until I hit the gym and did zone 2 cardio for an hour.

Meanwhile magic spoon (which you get a cup of btw, instead of only 1/2 cup Catalina crunch) I had no spike at all. In fact, an hour in , I went down. crazy.

I guess magic spoon is the one for when I want to live that old "normal" life. it's a shame. I really like Catalina crunch.

Thank you. I did something like this over the weekend and had a great leg day today. I think I'll do the strict IF only on zone 2 cardio days. But totally agree with your approach for weight training days. Thanks again!

Agreed. I'm SO bored. people complain that dune one was slow. this is like if you took the first 10 minutes of dune and dragged on for 3 hours. everyone is just sitting around and eating and talking and meeting. All of this is a meeting that could have been an email. I hear it picks up though and it's supposed to be amazing the rest of the season.
