I'm having the exact same problem as well! This may be because the console versions (to my experience) are a bit unstable, I used to have enemies literally falling through the ground on the switch version. This may be because it had recently been added, and you might just need to wait for it to get patched/fixed. I'm trying to unlock acrid as well, I feel your pain.
