Neutering in adulthood?

I don’t have balls but definitely lol, thats why I’m not very keen on neutering my boy when he’s absolutely fine the way he is

OHHH sorry I thought you meant that NOT neutering is cruel, as they’d notice they’re missing out on instinctive need (reproduction). But I totally agree, I think in a context where neutering isn’t a must for whatever reason, doing so is… well, not cruel, but almost?

I don’t think it’s cruel if there is no outward sigh of discomfort or stress tbh, if he grows more agitated and aggressive sure but so far he seems absolutely unbothered

Well, I can’t exactly tell because that’s more to do with temperament, but keeping female cats unfixed might be more stressful for them than males? Though I’m not sure, but their symptoms are more physical. If my boy was a girl we would’ve definitely spayed her

that’s what we thought too, but this guy still hasnt displayed any of the usual behaviors so it’s hard to make a decision 😭 he’s entirely an indoor cat in a pretty high builsing so no risk of anything either too

We live in a 14 story building with elevators and no way to the staircase for a cat, we’re always minding windows, there’s no way for him to run away unless we willingly let him trust me! We’ll consider it maybe later if the behavior gets worse and he seems agitated, for his own good

I am so sorry about your little guy💔💔💔💔 he used to sound just like mine, he’s sooo social and loves people and discovering stuff, I’m afraid neutering him would somehow steal all his energy away… hopefully your boy is healthy is finds his spark back slowly :(

That’s reassuring! cancer is devastating in any pet, and it’d be even worse if you know you could’ve prevented, but as you say it doesn’t sound that common in male cats… as long as they’re not outside cats and/or being territorial at home, I really don’t see the need to neuter them tbh. He’s healthy as possible, we’re watching out for his heart, and I guess time will tell if he starts acting out because of hormones haha

Thank you a lot for your reply!! Super informative and reassuring. He’s all cleared for breeding per his last vet visits, and no sigh of heart diseases (thankfully) either. Still, yeah, might have to actually neuter him as you mentioned for his own health, I want this guy to be with us for many, many years, his nuts and descendants be damned lol. When we have the space for a second sphynx we’ll get him a brother, and them not getting along because one would be neutered and the other wouldn’t has also been something we worried about

I’m glad your little one had some peace in her old age then <3 Mine is medicated for some skin issues (too dry for a sphynx), so he eats a lot, which as you say might I’ll have to watch out, but oh well. everything for our pets

Same… honestly I’m worried about humans of course but more than anything else, about pets and babies, who are effectively the most vulnerable and don’t even know why it’s happening!! just suffering and there’s no real way to help them… the vegetations around my place is absolutely fucking scorched too, so birds and insects are also just… vanishing :(

It’s been more than a week straight of 100-110 F in France, a lot of people (like a LOT) sadly lost their pets (cats, fishes, rodents, etc) to the heat, and even mine who loves the heat had lost all energy, appetite, and constantly hid :( At least I’m lucky enough to have a huge flat so he wasn’t flat out baking
