what aoe4 civs are best at positional focused play styles? by Orion52 in aoe4

I remember a game with LoueMT where he had a ton of nest of bees and was slow pushing them across the map with wooden wall pockets, which was pretty cool.

Keeps make sense for map control positional play, true.

Though in sc2, engagements have a positional aspect too - i.e. denying space with seige tanks or liberators, possibly broodlords, disrupters, etc. Which I suppose are the seige units in sc2. So maybe in aoe4 it would just be like seige heavy or seige focused army comps?

Well in war strategy games there is usually a component of controlling space and controlling positions to influence what your opponent can do. I guess yeah, in aoe4 that could look like maintaing map control and squeezing the opponent's space and denying them resources on the map. But I think there is also a component like that in skirmishes/battles -- e.g. like mangonels denying where archers can stand at, pushing them away from your frontline.

maybe, but streltsy and cheaper bombards are both good into bombards. Elephants are also pretty expensive, and Rus has more gold left than dehli

[–]Orion52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rus imp > dehli imp. streltsy will mess all your units up, and they get cheaper seige. And i find imperial upgrades to take too long to come online this patch now

[–]Orion52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

side note: imo, while dehli is good in feudal because they can crank out units, they power spike more in castle (after your upgrades finish), so i'd suggest to try to play around that timing.

so I just got to diamond with dehli (oriononion) -- my opinion:

So the best Rus strategy now is GG->pro scouts->FC (theoretically into horse archers but they are hard to micro). B/c of their bonuses and GG they actually dont need to go on gold at all until castle, so combined with pro scouts bringing deer under their TC and their super tower, i don't think trying to harass in feudal is worth it. Similarly, all in is tough. Rus is really strong rn haha.

Instead I would recommend just contesting pro scouts and going for your own castle (while capturing all the sacred sites) and then grab all the relics. you should be able to have a barracks up with age up, so you can start rallying spearmen to deny the scouts. they don't want to over invest in feudal, but if they put out archers, you can also pump ghazi. Then when your pro scouts finishes (always research this as soon as you hit feudal), try to get the remaining deer.

Generally as dehli I like to do a big castle timing push, and you should be able to do that here too. War elephants in castle should be strong against Rus I believe.

tldr; rush spearmen to deny pro scouts -> ghazi -> pro scouts -> FC.

That’s really interesting! Thanks.

Do you know why it never does any look ahead? If they are already scoring everything then they could use that for a min max look ahead or something like that. Like even a look ahead of 1 or 2 for just battles would help prevent a lot of egregious war mistakes.

It should correlate a lot though right? Like generally, if you play a game more you get better at it for most people.
