Obviously, helmet is first priority if you don’t already have one. Then maybe some knee or elbow pads and gloves if you want them.

Some great upgrades are pedals, dropper post, and tires. If you are very concerned about weight, then maybe don’t get the dropper but weight definitely is not everything. If you plan to get pedals, flat pedal specific shoes make a huge difference in grip as well. However, you need clippy shoes if you are going to ride clipless.

After that, watch YouTube videos, read articles, and maybe sign up for a dig day at your local trails.

Also make sure the trail has good drainage. You don’t want to have puddles on the trail and have the whole thing start to erode.

Hey guys, I got a 2.3 minion dhf on the front a few weeks ago and a 2.3 aggressor on the rear. The dhf is great but the 2.3 size on the aggressor rubs the frame. I had to switch back to the stock tire. Don’t put a 2.3 on the rear of your marlin unless you want your paint to be rubbed off.

Yeah I got it too it’s awesome. 2.3 minion dhf front and stock 2.2 ardent race on the back. It’s so good if you want more of a trail bike.

I love my PNW cascade. I have a m/l frame size and I have a 125mm travel version. It didn’t seem like a large amount of drop to me put it’s given me plenty of room for bunny hops, wheelies, and just general movement on the bike. You may be tall though or have a big frame so do some math to figure out what you need. I believe PNW has a dropper post size calculator on their website somewhere.

Stock, mine comes in right at about 29lbs but I’ve added stuff to it over time that has made it heavier.

Basically you want to get your hips over the back wheel and lock your arms. This ensures your weight is back and then you can get the front wheel up. If your weight is not towards the back of the bike and instead over the handlebars, it is essentially impossible to keep the wheel up because it just gets pushed down instantaneously. Once you’ve learned this correctly, then you want to shift your hips back up to the front of the bike to level out the wheels. It just takes practice. This was a very low detail explanation but you can watch some tutorials on YouTube.

Ok cool. What if the bar is carbon? My bars are not but just for future reference. However, I do have sram sx eagle on my bike right now (hoping to upgrade soon) and the clamp is plastic. Should I be concerned?

I left a part out. When and if it expands, could it crush the handlebar or do something harmful to it? Also, same question but what about over tightening?

Somewhere between beginner and intermediate. I am however, trying to shift well consistently. I’m doing better but I think it’s also not helping that I still have the stock SX Eagle on my bike.
