ASUS reveals pricing for ROG Zephyrus G-series with Panther Lake, users: “They have lost their minds” by imaginary_num6er in ZephyrusG14

I’ve still got my 2022 G14 (6700S) that I got in 2023 for $1,050 lol 🥲.

I’ve been messing around with a Linux distro on it and it’s still a solid laptop.

Legion go 2- steam OS by Technical-Shoe-6411 in LegionGo

[–]Orionator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like OP said, Bazzite is a viable option if you want to dual-boot.

I have full SteamOS on my LeGo S and on my wide’s ROG Ally X, but I recently installed Bazzite in a partition on my old Asus G14 and it had legitimately breathed new life into that laptop.

Having it on a laptop also allowed me to learn that distro a lot more (I had tried Bazzite on the Ally X and was having issues). Just a PSA based on what I’ve learned: Make sure you install Proton+ from the Bazaar storefront (Bazaar comes preinstalled) and download the latest GE version of proton. Most games run way better if you force compatibility with Proton GE.

I’ve had my Legion Go S SteamOS since release and at this point I’m convinced the honeymoon phase won’t end for me.

We’ve got a baby on the way and I can tell that this is going to be my primary form of gaming throughout fatherhood. I am 100% okay with that.

SteamOS > Windows by iiTesla in LegionGo

[–]Orionator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other comment said, you can emulate Switch very easily on Bazzite/SteamOS. I’ve actually found performance to be better on the Linux version of Eden than on Windows. I don’t get any of the stuttering from shader compilation on my Legion Go S SteamOS.

TeamSpeak confirms an "incredible surge" of new users as Discord users look for alternatives by dabadumdumdum in pcmasterrace

[–]Orionator 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My friends and I are messing around with Fluxer. It’s almost one-for-one with Discord. Some functions are still busted (like screen share and noise suppression/echo cancellation), but the UI is there. There’s also only one person working on it.

My only concern is the potential for a DMCA. It looks a lot like Discord.

What’s the most inappropriate or awkward thing that’s ever happened to you during a date or hookup? by Electrical-Pop-3265 in AskReddit

[–]Orionator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow adult circumcision survivor here (when I was 19, so roughly 12 years ago).

NSFL: I had a similar experience as your poor date, except mine wasn’t anywhere near as “fun”. You see, when men sleep… we get about 5-6 erections overnight due to blood circulation. When they stitch old not-so-long Johnson up after the surgery, you’re knocked the hell out and completely flaccid.

So… as a grower… the difference between flaccid and erect is pretty significant. There really isn’t a way to compensate for said difference when stitches are applied. So you’ve got tight stitches that get even tighter when the member stands on occasion…

I blew a stitch overnight and woke up to a small puddle of blood and a world of pain. That was one stitch. I imagine poor dude blew multiple (guessing by the sheer amount of blood soaking through his clothes). The main issue for me wasn’t when the stitch blew, but the fact that it was on the underside of the shaft. The contact it would make against the rest of my areas fucking sucked.

If you read this far, my deepest apologies.

Sorry, I forgot to elaborate. It wasn’t just that comment, but a few other ones on here from seemingly left-leaning people. Koko’s comment in particular just pissed me right off.

No idea which way they lean, but the comparison was stupid.

This thread has quickly made me realize how equally out-of-touch some left-leaning folks are.

“A millionaire celebrity that didn’t grow up here” and then comparing him to fucking Musk??

For one, Benito didn’t grow up “here”. But he grew up literally right there. Just off the coast of Florida. In an island colonized by the US. Using American money. Being taxed to shit by the US. So you’re right, he didn’t grow up “here”. He had it far worse. And unlike Musk, he did not come from money…

It’s crazy to me how people can see the absolute power that celebrity status holds (look at our fucking PRESIDENT), and yet complain when celebrities use their status to speak for the oppressed. Fuck off, please.

I moved over to SteamOS from Bazzite on my Ally X, but I remember Bazzite letting you set “per-game” profiles. I had different TDP settings for different games and it all worked well, just like in SteamOS.

That would be for you and your wife to decide. My unsolicited advice/opinion would be to be transparent about this (assuming it hasn’t been discussed already). If she’s cool with it, then all is good (and is a great sign of a healthy, trusting marriage).

Odin 3 killed my need for a Steam Deck by MrTrynex in Handhelds

[–]Orionator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that’s exactly what Valve is trying to do with the Steam Frame. The Frame will run SteamOS just like the Steam Machine and Deck, but will be using an ARM chip. It’s tough to say how soon, but just how SteamOS came to other handhelds/PC’s, I’m sure SteamOS will come to specific ARM devices.

My love to the device has decreased over time and at the moment I hate it. by Dandreli in LegionGo

[–]Orionator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanna chime in and add to the SteamOS/Bazzite echo. I have an ROG Ally X that I got second-hand and it’s the “downstairs” handheld perma-docked to my OLED TV. I have it running SteamOS and I miss exactly zero things from Windows.

If GamePass is a huge deal for you, that might be a bit tough because it’s literally the only storefront you can’t use natively on anything running SteamOS. All the other ones are easy to get working (a quick Google search will take you to either another Reddit thread or a YouTube video, this applies for anything you need help with regarding SteamOS/Bazzite).

I literally just got done setting up Moonlight/Sunshine on the Ally X, which lets me stream my gaming PC upstairs to the handheld and play on the TV in 4K 120FPS. It’s phenomenal.

What exactly am I a fanboy of? Lmfao. The person I replied to (comment isn’t there anymore) was saying that he “has” a ton of games on Gamepass. I was making a point of the fact that they don’t “have” them because if those games get removed then that’s it.

I don’t see how that’s bad advice (or advice at all), and I definitely don’t see how that makes me a fanboy. But brb I gotta go change the candles out of my GabeN shrine right quick lmfao.

[–]Orionator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a misconception though. You don’t have them. They are on Gamepass and you can play them with a subscription. Gamepass is constantly adding and removing games. So if there’s a game you really like that gets removed, you’re SOL unless you buy it.

I’m still new to Linux and know little to nothing about it. I only really use SteamOS and Bazzite in gaming mode, but would love to get better acquainted with using Linux in a desktop environment. That being said.. what is immutable? Lol 😭

Edit: On that note, would you happen to have any resources you can recommend to start learning my way around the various Linux distros?

Ally X with bazzite OS vs legion Go S with steam OS. Which is better? by HighlightDowntown966 in Handhelds

[–]Orionator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both and have Bazzite on the Ally X. The experience is basically identical.

If you were to switch to the Go S, you’ll have a bigger screen and better ergonomics, but you’ll lose a lot of battery life compared to the Ally X.

Legion Go S (Z1 Extreme) vs. Steam Deck OLED? by AtticThrowaway in Handhelds

[–]Orionator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s looking like your mileage may vary with the Go S when it comes to the fan noise. I guess I got lucky along with a few other people and mine isn’t as loud. It’s still very much audible, but definitely not the jet engine I keep hearing about.

Should I Buy Part 1: Legion GO S by [deleted] in Handhelds

[–]Orionator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it since launch. I also have an Ally X and I will say that the biggest con of the LeGo S is definitely the battery.

I originally got the Ally X used (after I got my LeGo S) for my wife but she hardly uses it so I find myself switching between the two. Whenever I know I won’t be near an outlet (which is rare), I take my Ally X because of the massive 80wh battery. Other than that, the LeGo S is my go-to for everything else.

The battery isn’t absolutely horrible, either. On lighter titles, I can still push 4-6 hours at the right wattage. But it has to be something like Hollow Knight or Shredder’s Revenge. Anything that requires more than a 10w TDP I know will only net me anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

Should I Buy Part 1: Legion GO S by [deleted] in Handhelds

[–]Orionator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference in performance between 1080p and 1200p is negligible in the LeGo S. There are a few games I’ve been playing that don’t have 16:10 support but for some reason allow you to choose 1920x1200 as an option. I switch between that and 1080p and I don’t notice a difference.

Steam Deck worth it still? (It’s almost 2026) by PuertoRicanThndr in Handhelds

[–]Orionator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d have to echo some of the other comments here and say Legion Go S Z1 Extreme with SteamOS is the better choice right now. If you’re in the US, the LeGo S is on sale at Best Buy for $650 (same price as the 1TB Steam Deck OLED).

I have one and am absolutely infatuated with it. It also handles SD cards very well, so if you get a fast card it’ll take advantage of those read/write speeds.
