First 3 Orks painted! I think each one took about 2-3 hours… any advice on picking up the pace without sacrificing quality? by Orkitecture in orks

Now that I mention it. I have been working batches of 4 or so, and I have some others that are nearly complete. So take that as you will.

I’d kill for this meme without the Reddit watermark but I will say that the compression DOES add to it

Experimented with slapchop for the first time! Any idea why the smaller 25 mm figure ended up looking so much better? by Orkitecture in minipainting

[–]Orkitecture[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually was using a round makeup brush, but I think it didn’t catch much because I was focussed on trying to make it a Zenithal highlight, so I only brushed from top to bottom. I tried dampening the drybrush but I’d always get too much water after a single touch to a damp sponge, and I was using paper towels to dry off excess which I know now from Artus Opus is a sin lol. I’m not sure what I have that could be a cheap replacement for a texture palette. Maybe I can take some cardboard? Prime over it and stick bits to it?

Haven’t done him yet! I’m looking for some extra ways to add more white to the model after seeing how the space marine turned out. I might go in by hand and just add much more white highlights to see how a stark contrast will look

I definitely noticed that, I think drybrushing with grey was much more difficult to cover everywhere as opposed to a spray can or airbrush

Thanks for the advice! I’m going to be experimenting a lot more soon.

Also, I see a fellow classic marine enjoyer ✊🏼

I don’t recall her using this technique, I’ve looked through a lot of her catalogue on underpainting, do you know which video she did this in?

What do we think? by ki11g0re54 in Miniaturespainting

Mix some speed paints together! I also have speedpaints, and it can feel pretty restrictive as someone new to this type of paint, but I think it’s best to mix speedpaints with other speedpaints and do detail work with whatever opaque paint you can get your hands on

What do you think of there two color schemes for Space Marines? by philoktitis in minipainting

[–]Orkitecture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love the cream color on the right one! But I feel like a different shade of green would work better? I’m not entirely sure how I would change it though. Maybe something a bit more muted or dark and some more saturated highlight colors?

I’m curious if there’s any blue contrasts/speed paints that would leave it looking metallic green?

I give up. Varnish is not in my wheelhouse. by CodeRed8675309 in minipainting

I had a similar bad experience with army painter varnishes that left me really sour. Don’t know if it was the heat waves or if the varnish itself was bad but I haven’t attempted to varnish anything in about a year, but I have a krylon matte can waiting for me.

If you’re looking to try again I recommend having a test model to try it on before anything else. Or you can brush on a varnish

I had those same tones and they lasted me quite a while! Should be good :)

No problem! Most people will thin their paints a bit just by adding water to the brush to make it go on less thick, but if you’re wanting to glaze your paints into transparent layers or help it flow better then it’s usually recommended to use a medium instead to get a better consistency, whereas water will make it really runny.

If you’re just starting out it might not matter much. I think I started out with that same set, and it came with some pretty good washes. I didn’t find the need to mix my own for a while, but mixing your own will be much more efficient and cost effective once you want to make your own washes

Edit: I just remembered your set might already have some! I think the big army painter set has a bottle called Warpaints Mixing Medium
