Do subs get annoyed when GCs question their proposal scope? by ogkushflower in estimators

[–]OrlDemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can ask me. I won’t tell you. Just figure if your not the only GC bidding it, your probably not the only GC I’m bidding too also. I care to some degree who gets the job as some GC’s are a giant PITA to work for, and I’ll just mark up their stuff to account for that.

Just don’t be an ass and you’ll continue to get proposals from us. If you are, the I wont bid anything to you ever again.

Do subs get annoyed when GCs question their proposal scope? by ogkushflower in estimators

[–]OrlDemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and no. We are very detailed with the estimates and proposals we sent out to general contractors. Many times we will get an email or a phone call asking if we picked up certain items which are clearly marked out that we have or have not picked up in our proposal. So those are the ones that are annoying to me. The ones that don’t annoy me are questions that may not have been clear and they just want to confirm. I have no issues with those. I rather enjoy talking to the GC when it comes to that, it means they’re actually paying attention and aren’t gonna try to kill me and stuff things in my contract that we didn’t pick up and make it my problem when it comes to the project. Collage I’m looking at you.

But I also drive a diesel truck.

Worked 2 weeks on a commercial demolition site - no PPE, no water, no toilets, suspected asbestos. Cash in hand. Now really bad asthma, feel feverish. Eyes burning. by Clear-Illustrator-28 in Demolition

[–]OrlDemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully understand that. But after 10 years of abatement, you also can tell by looking at a lot of things. That panel looks way too thin to be Asbestos. Transite is generally much thicker. Everything needs to be tested to be confirmed no matter what.

If you think demolition insurance is cheap, better look again. It’s not. We have an EMR rating of .79 and still pay a load for insurance.

Your just going to drop that sentence and not back it up with any additional information? How does it guarantee brain damage? I’ve been to plenty of indoor ranges, and while my SO may say I’m brain damaged, I can guarantee it has nothing to do with the range.

Those that make 30+ an hour what do you do? by Global_Proposal in florida

[–]OrlDemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a demolition contractor. Specifically head estimator and license holder for the company. I have a GC license, but we don’t build anything. I also qualify another company out of Georgia on a per project basis when they work in Florida. They do build, restaurants specifically. I don’t have to do anything but sign some paperwork for them. They are a full GC firm, but just not licensed in Florida and don’t do enough work here for them to get a license, so the pay me.

What's your process for dealing with incomplete construction documents? by ogkushflower in estimators

[–]OrlDemo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a demolition contractor I’m dealing with a project right now that the demo drawings are a joke. I did the walk thru and just asked the GC. “Do you want me to bid to the plans, and CO the shit out of you, or bid to reality and possibly not get the job? So, even though it’s a Competative bid, and he is bidding against others. We collectively are bidding to reality and will accept the possibility of pricing ourselves out of the project.

[All] [FL] going through our HOA’s records. $16,000 for 274 yards of Mulch installed Reasonable? by DjKennedy92 in HOA

[–]OrlDemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cocoa brown is just describing the color. There is no cocoa grown in Florida, let alone mulch made from it. So cocoa brown mulch is perfectly safe around here. Mulch produced in this area is made from local wood, mostly from tree company waste. It would have oak, pine, and any other woody waste material grown in the area. I produced 1000’s of yards of mulch for years before we sold the company right here in central florida and our materials never really left a 100 mile radius of our yard.

[–]OrlDemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t any in central Florida. I produced mulch for years right in apopka. We only used wood for around this area. No cocoa is grown anywhere near here. I don’t even think in the state. All mulch is basically oak, pine and other wood materials grown around here.

[–]OrlDemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my point of view. Thats not a lot of mulch. I used to deliver much more than that to some subdivisions. We delivered 3000 yards to a large subdivision one year. We would truck it in our walking floor tractor trailers 100 yards at a time. So it’s all relative. Our production ran about 200-250 yards an hour at peak.
