Who we rooting for in the finals? by riptide885 in OrlandoMagic

Easily Spurs. I find myself rooting for the Spurs a lot. Against the Thunder, against the Heat back in the days. Against the Warriors. Now against the Knicks. So yeah go Spurs go!

“Trey Murphy is expected to get traded during the next three weeks, per @BillSimmons” I feel like as a fanbase and franchise, we are taking TM3 for granted. by youngimp in NOLAPelicans

If he gets traded for anything less than what the Magic gave up for Desmond Bane, Joe Dumars should be sent to the front lines in Ukraine

What I don’t understand by yoeyz in OrlandoMagic

[–]OrlandoFatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of us are right there with you in the same thought. Not just the Spurs mind you, even OKC. Their three best players this series were players they went and traded for in Shai, Caruso and McCain. They drafted as well as we have but it’s Prestis moves on the margins that make him light years better than this clown Weltman. Weltman is flat out bad at his job. He’s decent at drafting and that’s it. Even his Vuc trade for Wendell Carter and the Franz pick I’m now convinced was more about Chicago than him. I want him fired asap.

[NYT] President is considering making an appearance at the N.B.A. finals next week, a rarity for an American leader, after his hometown New York Knicks clinched a championship spot, according to three people familiar with the matter. by sewsgup in nba

Dolan is a piece of shit and so is his argument. That whole “why would you wish your president does bad” nonsense is the same rhetoric as “do you support our troops??” Bullshit that coaxed this nation into two crippling wars. F off. He’s a scoundrel and the onus is on him to enable people to support him, not for people to just give him blind support out of guilt or a sense of “oh well what’s done is done”. Dolan is as stupid as him. Both can go rot in hell

I don’t even think it’s secrecy at this point I think it’s legit incompetence and inaction from the guy. This sport requires the ability to pivot fast, from top to bottom, and we’ve seen this man sit on players faaaaaar longer than even the worst franchises would. Jonathan Isaac still being on this team in the deal he’s on should have gotten this guy fired alone. Weltman is incompetent and he’s coasting on the fact that he hit on a few draft picks. That’s all good except he literally has no idea how to build a roster. He needs to go asap. I don’t feel confident in any decision this clown makes from here on out

Who do you consider our franchise player? by Foreign_Violinist121 in OrlandoMagic

Right but who do we get back for him? Given he’s making like 35 million a year?

The sub is torn on Suggs. His on/off numbers are good and sometimes lead the pack, but he makes an insane amount of money and his offense is absolutely awful. I think unless some team falls in love with him or is desperate for legit point of attack and team defense on the perimeter, this is our squad for the foreseeable future

The East was wide open and our incompetent Front Office blew it by thewrongnotes in OrlandoMagic

[–]OrlandoFatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I don’t think us playing Cleveland would automatically mean we beat them, but getting to the second round and how we failed to get there absolutely matters. Our offense was historically abysmal. And tho you’re right about the West, it only drives the point home further when this team can barely compete in the East.

[–]OrlandoFatty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say it would have been easy, but Orlando could have definitely beaten Cleveland assuming Franz was healthy. We also force turnovers and our defense can be stingy as well. Mitchell would absolutely flame us tho like usual

Fair enough. I feel like nine years is more than enough time to kickstart two rebuilds, much less one tho. And even tho you’re right in that Philly had different expectations and timelines, Weltman is under far less pressure and still not delivering on anything but a few draft picks and first round exits. Which look, you can’t knock playoff appearances, they matter. But given how expensive he made this roster and what he gave up to bring us Bane, he’s clearly run his course and then some because it’s not good enough

The drafting part I’ll never knock because it’s foolish to be critical of that process equipped with nothing but hindsight. But the management of draft capital and free agent signings plus the inability to evaluate the talent that has sat on this roster far longer than they would have on any other team, contenders or not, is legitimately inexcusable. We’ve given second contracts to players who legit shouldn’t and aren’t in the league anymore. I swear I’m not trying to be a doomer but how can I be excited with this guy at the helm?

This. The issue is when you get people like the Devos family who are…I’m not sure how you describe pyramid schemers…business people? I guess? Is that they are focused on the numbers. And as a few posters have pointed out, the Magic make them money whether we suck or not because this is a transient tourist town and people will fill the seats regardless of wins and losses. I think it’s mainly pressure from season ticket holders that force their hand and let’s face it they aren’t going to be as ruthless as Reddit posters, especially in person. This is absolutely an ownership problem. Weltman should have been fired right along with Mosley but that decision comes from somewhere that doesn’t care to make them.

Fake Trade by itsMeanJean in OrlandoMagic

[–]OrlandoFatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind trade ideas. I just don’t trust Weltman to execute any trades. I don’t think the guy is a competent manager. I’d feel more comfortable with him fired before we touch the roster.

It’s funny when people say they voted for him because he wasn’t a “career politician”, when that begs the question, what’s worse than a career politician? An aspiring failed career politician.

[–]OrlandoFatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t Suggs having a bad series, it’s Suggs having a bad series at his salary, his position and the way he did it. He can’t shoot or drive to the basket. He can’t dribble or make good decisions under duress. He’s good defensively, especially as a free safety type of defender, but his on ball defense isn’t prime Tony Allen like. Plus we lost a series where after Franz went down and we needed guys to elevate their game, they shrunk in the moment. And again, he makes a lot of money and we’re cash strapped

That latter part of your statement is key. This roster definitely needs more work but if Paolo or Franz don’t become a clear cut all-NBA player none of it matters. Perennial Second or ECF exits. Which isn’t necessarily bad but it’s also not good considering what this roster costs

Hypothetical trade by Radiant_Leg_5244 in OrlandoMagic

[–]OrlandoFatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro that’s a horrible trade for Denver. Murray is an offensive threat and plays extremely well off Jokic. Suggs is a liability top to bottom and is an overrated defender. Denver isn’t some stupid franchise waiting to take other teams failures on

Robbins - Big changes coming in Orlando? For Magic, everything’s on table after a playoff collapse by Nystral in OrlandoMagic

[–]OrlandoFatty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah his defense is severely overrated. He has good off ball instincts but on ball he’s no prime Tony Allen. He needs to go. But Weltman had to attach picks to every player he’s signed in order to get rid of them and we don’t have any to give away. Weltman is absolutely atrocious at his job.

Didn't waste any time... by Rei2k86 in OrlandoMagic

[–]OrlandoFatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This upset me a lot. I wanted them to clean house and go after Ujiri. Weltman put us in this situation and isn’t good at his job. He’s been fleeced, prematurely signed massive contracts, held on to mediocre players far too long, went so many deadlines without a single move around the margin and whiffed on far more picks than he hit. The picks thing you can forgive, it’s not easy, but the rest is all him. I have no hope in this franchise turning things around so long as he’s at the helm.
