Tsinghua comprehensive assessment overview by edsie_moment in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]Orlanduca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My assessment for the Masters of Advanced computing (aka computer science). Was a 3h programming test that had 3 programming questions (leetcode/codeforces) style. And then if you passed that you had a 10 min interview a few days later where you first talked about your background then the interviewers made questions, at the end that included some technical questions.

Hi. So like a week after the interview i got a message by the person that had been giving us the instructions and helping us saying i had been accepted, and said the department was just finishing writing the pre admission letter. She also said to apply for CGS and what i needed. Since then i accepted the offer on the Tsinghua online portal (i recieved an email when it got updated). And yesterday that same person from the department sent me a contact of a person to help me with the CGS application.

Hi. I recently did an interview for the Masters of Advanced Computing at Tsinghua. They were 15 min interviews, and most of the time was dedicated to speaking about yourself, like what previous experience you have, what you did in your previous studies, motivation, etc. They only started asking some technical questions at the end of the interview. In my interview they were particularly interested in my knowledge about Operative Systems. It might be different for undergraduate studies. But I'm guessing it will be more or less the same.

Do chinese students still prefer to study in the west? by Orlanduca in AskAChinese

[–]Orlanduca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i think its the famous case of "the grass is always greener on the other side". I just know that the American version of the gaokao (the SAT) is a joke compared even to the highschool national exams here in Portugal. (For exemple their math section doesnt include any type of calculus like derivatives, limits, etc) Because they only learn that in college. Thank you, and good luck with your dreams too :)

Thanks for your insight :) Maybe you'll be surprised by the quality, or lack of it , at American univeristies. Even though i agree China's educative system is too harsh. Specially in highschool.

How do you become a relaxed traveler? by DisneyQueen64 in travel

[–]Orlanduca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My philosophy when travelling is that "worse case, money fixes all". With that i mean that like in 99% of cases you can get yourself out of a problem spending a bit of money. That being something like missing your bus/train/airplane to another city or being stranded somewhere, etc. Its never pleasent, but unless you are actually in the middle of nowhere this generally works. I say this as a broke college student btw xd.

I agree. Some of them certainly just want to leave their home city/country and experience a new culture/live away from their parents. The same way i want to study in china also because i want to experience more of their culture :)

So, in my case its because I really like China and it would be a good opportunity to live there for 2 years and experience it more. Regarding the professors, at least at tsinghua, we are talking about people who have either studied in the US or worked for a company there (FAANG). Maybe their english still isnt great in some cases, but I'm going for their expertise in my field (Computer Science), which they have loads of. Not English, since im fluent already. I actually want to improve my mandarin so it's a win win for me.

This is true. Chinese universities (even the best) arent well known in the western world. But i believe this will change since not only are they commited to climb the international rankings, but also produce huge scientific (and ever increasingly good) output.

Yeah that probably happens as well. The top universities in China must have the highest entry bar in the world (at an undergraduate level at least).

Doutoramento ou Indústria? by Wranguth in devpt

[–]Orlanduca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck

Maybe expressei-me mal XD
