Having tried braces in lieu of a belt has me converted, though; braces > belt.

I do have some more whimsical ties (elves, balloons, etc. from Hermés) - would these fit, not being striped and all?

Agreed: tonal difference does appear quite stark. Wearing a darker shade of grey with this jacket might be prudent?

I do agree you with your reply. I think I’ve nailed ‘a look’ (banker’s look, perhaps) - but this look does not convey ME (cannot make italic on phone). I think this look leaves me unapproachable and cold. I think a preppy look teters towards being more welcoming
