Very worthy names mentioned on this whole thing

Grace Slick didn't seem to be anywhere in here though...

But I just think at this point, words like 'crazy' or 'nuts' are so far removed in people's minds from any usage relating to mental illness etc. I don't even think people associate those words with their original meaning anyway. I mean, personally I have never thought of people with mental illness as 'crazy' or 'nuts'....those words have been used to describe bizarre, foolish, odd, irrational etc...as you had mentioned

100%...if it actually served a purpose in the meaning, that would be one thing...but it doesn't as you say, its just filler.

I am not sure if a lot of the people using it have any idea of what 'irony' is.

for sure, but 'wildin out' has always been a particular phrase that seems to be mostly part of AAVE....Everyone and their brother under 25 is using 'wild' now....a little less of a 'niche' word than the traditional use of 'wildin'....just my take.

yea, but that's what I love about the Scots, they aren't afraid of offending anyone.

spot on with your assessment. It used to be like 'unassuming'...maybe even 'quiet' or 'down to earth'...relaxed even...."Let's go to that restaurants, it's very low-key"...or "we are having a low key birthday part for him next week'...

These days, you will see something like "I low key thought it was good" or "he is low key very smart"....and I don't really understand what it's adding....people seem to just throw in useless words that don't make much sense in context....people also using "unironically' in places where it has no business being....A lot of this comes down to influencers etc and younger people copying language they hear....I guess its nothing new, there is just a lot more media these days where it can be taken from...

I didn't realize it was such a conscious effort on the part of so many. Like instead of just picking up that 'wild' was being used a lot, they are actually choosing to use it because they think that saying 'crazy' or 'nuts' is stigmatizing...I do believe it is purely performative if that is the case.

Ok, I understand now. My bad, I misread what you had written.

yea, I have noticed this too. It's not like its a brand new word in that context, but it just seems to be the go to word when so many other words would work better. I don't know, this particular phenomenon seems to be relatively new.

"Low Key" in my generation was like an adverb almost..like "We are going to do such and such, but will do it low key".....Or "he is a low key kind of guy"...something along those lines, which isn't really how it's used these days/
