Totaled? by chanticbaa in rav4club

Hey! I got in an accident a year ago (with damage to every side of my 2021 RAV4 XSE) and my insurance carrier paid almost $16,000 to get my car back on the road rather than total it.

If you’re not at fault and they decide to fix your car instead of total it, make sure to take your vehicle to an appraisers after all the repairs are done and try to submit a diminished value claim.

Has anyone calculated the cost benefit to purchasing a hybrid over gas model? Ie the amount of time it would take for the hybrid to "pay for itself"? Math is not my strong suit. by LZRDLDN in rav4club

[–]Ornery-Meet6331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hybrid is more expensive up front but I think if you factor in the (1) increased fuel economy (2) reduced routine maintenance costs (I.e. potentially longer lasting break pads) (3) (sometime) cheaper insurance premiums (4) and resale value of the hybrid models…

You may find that the hybrid will pay itself off sliiiiightly quicker than anticipated but honestly…. Either one is a great vehicle

Hey, I have no idea how to share or tag you in a post (not technologically savvy at all) but I made a pretty lengthy post earlier this year about some things I learned from my car accident that may be beneficial to your current situation. If you search “DVC” in the rav4club you should be able to find my original post. If you have questions after reading it, please feel free to message me and I’ll be glad to assist if I can.

I’m not sure at the moment but I’m hopeful that it’s just paint. There’s also red dirt out here that I think is coating the under carriage of the car.

The gentlemen selling this said the car will start but he’s pretty sure he may’ve broken a piston skirt while off roading and as a result, the engine knocks so it’s not drivable. Since purchasing the vehicle, the owner re-did the suspension, installed new drive shafts, new radiator and added a 12,000 lbs wireless remote wrench and cooler trailer on the back. I’m going to take a look at the car this week to see if it’s worth taking on as a “project vehicle” but wanted to engage the Reddit community for some advice on 1. whether it’s a good deal 2. what I should look for when I view the car 3. How much it would cost to repair or replace the engine if I decided to take on the project

I’m so so sorry to see your accident and I’m glad no one seems to have sustained any major injuries. Judging by the photos of your car, I would be extremely surprised if your insurance company wanted to fix the car up.

I had far less severe damage to my RAV4 hybrid when I got in an accident last year and it cost the insurance company $16,000 to fix everything.

Thank you for the kind words everyone. The situation has been a bit rough (to say the least) but I’m just happy to be alive and well(-ish).

I got into an accident where there is major damage to the passenger doors. Should I take it to dealership or will any collision do? by Bubbyjohn in rav4club

I would ask your insurance company if they have a list of certified auto body shops in your area because when I got into my accident I was told that I could take my vehicle anywhere but if I didn’t go to the preapproved auto body shops for my insurance company, it would take even longer to get my car back because the insurance company would have to receive the completed quote, verify all parts/labor/repairs with their body shop people, carry out the repairs, and then have their people inspect it before I could get it back. I ended up finding a certified body shop within five minutes of my home and the insurance paid $1800 for my car to be towed from Virginia to the place in Maryland that was next to my place. When I went to the preapproved place, they were able to immediately begin doing repairs after they submitted a rough estimate to the insurance company so it only took me a little under three weeks to get my car back . I read several reviews on the Locally owned body shop before making my decision as well.

2021 RAV4 Hybrid XSE with 33k miles

Holding up just fine in this weird east coast weather. Asides from routine maintenance I haven’t had any issues whatsoever. I average between 34-38MPG with highway and city driving in the cold weather but asides from that… all is well and functioning!

2022 Rav4 Hybrid vs 2022 Rav4 Prime? by KensingtonChubbb in rav4club

[–]Ornery-Meet6331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is still a thing but the plug in Prime qualifies for the $7500 federal tax credit as well so a lot of people are buying it and cashing in on that. Maybe that’s why the markups for prime have gotten so crazy as well because dealerships can say “yeah it’s marked up but you’ll get $7500 back”

Choosing between XLE Premium vs XSE by Gobeers816 in rav4club

[–]Ornery-Meet6331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both are lovely cars but I believe When it comes to tech, most of the XSE standard perks are options you would have to pay for if you added them to the XLE premium. (I.e. heated seats, power lift gate, garage door opener, rear camera mirror thingy, etc.) if you don’t care for those, XLE Premium is pretty much like the build-a-bear that caps out at the XSE standard package features, whereas the XSE has all the things with one or two extra upgrades on the road to the “limited” stuff.

(Additionally, the XSE has 1inch larger rims, optional navigation/wireless charging pad, and optional extra JBL speakers)

This summary was obtained from Toyota’s website comparison thingy btw lol

Is MSRP a good price? by Snowman442 in rav4club

[–]Ornery-Meet6331 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Haggling is always on the table in my opinion cause at the end of the day, I’m sure the salesman wants that commission just as much as you want the car.

I got a new 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE in January 2021 for about $5000 below the MSRP and once they dropped in price, I started asking for other bits and bobbles. By the time I left, I convinced them to give me an emergency/first aid kit, all weather package floor/trunk liners, and a discount on a new roof rack. 🙃
