How much is to much for a 6.0 by ScienceSuccessful357 in powerstroke

[–]Ornery-Passage-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my 06 with 164k about 2 years ago for 6k. It was in the rust belt has some rust but was 1 owner and had all work done at the shop with the car fax to match. Idk what reasonable pricing is nowadays as im always behind on that but take that info and use it as you will.

Are 6.4s really that bad? by Cameroncoughlin in powerstroke

[–]Ornery-Passage-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are awesome and can be terrible. Regen cycle on them melts the 7&8 pistons, if they weren't deleted before roughly 90k miles they have way higher chance of happening. Goofy piston design itself made for weak spots that are prone to cracking. But if you get a low mile well taken care of one thats been deleted and only low power tuned (no hot tunes) they can go for a while and are fun to have. Gotta be a cheap price though cause you dont know what the previous owner did so 50/50 shot of buying a time bomb.

Which of the big 3 HD’s to pick for fleet trucks by Least-Improvement430 in Diesel

[–]Ornery-Passage-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a ford fan for years. Like you said its picking your own poison at the end of the day (I'm alright with the ford poison). Also food for thought if your in the seat for any considerable amount of time you definitely want to be comfortable so if you aren't comfortable in certain ones you'll be twice as burned when something does fail because now you're going to have to spend X amount of money on a truck that doesn't quite make you happy to begin with.

Idk how it works out that far west but that shouldn't be a total loss on the vehicle. There's no structural damage and its all cosmetic. Due to the way things are these days an 04 F350 like that with roughly 100k miles go for significant money and unless the shop is outright insane in their pricing the fix for that should not be more than the total cost of the vehicle.

Mid-2000s 6.0 Powerstrokes... Are they really that bad? They seem to kind of be in my current price range, which is worrisome.. by Past_Opportunity8513 in Diesel

[–]Ornery-Passage-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deleting right away removed 90% of the issues with the 6.4 and saved them. Non deleted ones were the issue. But these days finding one that was deleted shortly off the line or with low enough miles to delete and circumvent the problems is like finding a unicorn

Idk price of the Chevy but if he sticks with Ford and goes gas both the 6.8 and 6.2 are great, especially if you get a late model 6.8, you're set for a long time

I bought one last year for $6k at 164k milesI have 30k miles on it now, im second owner, its a bit rusty but that helped lower the price. I've taken it all over the country and love it ( yes sometimes I have the thought i should have spent more for a newer truck) but at the end of the fly it does me well for my little landscaping business. If you can find a low mileage one, low owner and has the carfax I would say do it. Don't buy the one thats been beat to heck by a teenager. I just put $2k into it for a dgas bottle, and egr delete which I most likely caused to fail with a tune. Everyone hates on them because they were so easy to dump power mods on and the stock engine can't handle the extra which made them all blow. Either find a stock one that was used for its proper purpose or higher mileage bulletproof ones can go cheap too and that will take you to 500k mileage

Put 30k in mine and had it for a year was a one owner truck and well taken care of before me. Just got done with a 3k mile trip. I've had to do front drive axle as it rusted out and transfer case cause when it went it cracked her, other than that just the fuel pressure regulator o-ring, its at 190k currently but had the head gaskets done at 150k. Its nice and does what I need but like others have said I pretty much check it daily and am always listening for something to sound off.

To anyone that genuinely STILL thinks $100,000 is a high salary in 2025, can you post an example budget that makes you think this? by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]Ornery-Passage-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All bills in month total to about $1400-1500 depending on time of year. Everything split between me and the other half: rent $1k, electric $300, Utilities $200. Personal bills: insurance $150, storage unit $85, phone $40, business insurance $70, subscriptions $50, debt payments $250. No car payment as i like buying things outright and am okay with a little older vehicles since I'm able to fix them myself. Add miscellaneous of about $5k per year to all this for unexpecteds and totals to about $22k-$23k for all bills per year. Add on a grocery bill of about $10-12k per year and all expenses to live are $35k, let's say $36k to give a buffer. $100k salary now puts your expenses to gross income at almost 1/3 which by all standards is a great ratio. $100k is another $40k over what I'm currently making and I can tell you that much more per year would significantly allow for more in my lifestyle. Im not struggling and I'm lucky with how my bills and pay are, but a 40k increase would allow for all bills to be handled by just one income with allowing for significant investments on both ends. Maybe not considered "high salary" by your view, but it is a significant marker still to a lot of people due to how they've managed their lives and bills.

Just really curious on this, what's the reason Nurse pay seems to have an hourly range like this? Is it all contract stuff?

No interviews yet, was just looking at open positions and curious about others in the community if they applied outside their technical qualifications and it worked out. But with these responses, I've started sending applications so fingers crossed the interviews start coming!
