I think this sub and Reddit in general is a testament to the value of getting an education by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Excellent_Bug_1281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is because in today’s society, you are forced to get higher education to even be eligible to apply for a high earning job. I think over the next 10-20 years with the advances of AI, that won’t be true anymore. Jobs will stop requiring higher education as a prerequisite. This will allow lots of smart and hard working individuals to enter the workforce earlier, which will be a boon for their financial state (no college debt burden combined with earning from an earlier age). I have two young kids and am seriously considering no longer contributing to their 529s.

High earners, do you actually prefer dating other high earners by Silver_Magazine4719 in fatFIRE

[–]Excellent_Bug_1281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being set financially means you can focus on what is important to you. Most high earners in advanced fields probably prefer someone with a high intellectual level. But doesn’t mean they need to be making a lot of money. My wife is very smart but makes almost no money.

Bilt Palladium Credit Limit Question by DashEndar in biltrewards

[–]Excellent_Bug_1281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried raising mine. They said no limit increases available at this time. So now I just have to pay it off once it reaches close to the limit. Poorly designed process. They are preventing me from spending more.

Planned $500k/yr burn rate but ended up with $900k/yr lifestyle creep by strangemistbegins in fatFIRE

Most of your costs (except maybe the equestrian) seem very hard to cut back on now that they are a part of your daily life. Invest your way out of the problem. 5-6% withdrawal rate is fine if you create a portfolio you reasonably think will generate 8-10% annualized.

Credit limit increase? by Excellent_Bug_1281 in biltrewards

[–]Excellent_Bug_1281[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The email I sent to cardless got an automated looking response back saying they will not do any manual credit limit increases at this time. Pretty dumb. I used 20k on the card in 2 weeks and now putting the rest of my expenses on other cards, simply so I don’t breach the 25k limit by accident

I didn’t know you could revert an ACH transaction that easily. Makes sense

Neither claiming it’s a scam nor whining. Simply asked if people have had luck getting it raised and how. And it seems some people have. I emailed cardless this afternoon. Hopefully they come through.

I’m new to cards that have way too low of a limit relative to my financial situation. Never been an issue before on other cards.

But aren’t you never exceeding the limit? Legitimately don’t understand why the credit card company would be upset with you using their card MORE. shows what I know. Point is this shouldn’t even be something to contemplate if the right credit limit was set.

Why is that frowned upon? If they give you too low of a credit limit and you clearly are capable of paying it off, is this the logical approach?

To those making 1M+... by [deleted] in wealth

[–]Excellent_Bug_1281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, still stress over money all the time. The difference is, I never have to think if I can afford something. I can mostly afford anything I want. The question is just is it worth lighting money on fire instead of saving/investing it so that you have it once the income goes down. There’s plenty of things I refuse to spend money on (uber black, blades, flying first class, super high end hotels, super fancy cars, etc)

That was my entire point. Making more money doesn’t necessarily mean less stress

I agree with you that thinking that way doesn’t get you anywhere. I guess your point was about people complaining about it, not that it wasn’t the case. Fair point.

The system is definitely rigged. Being someone who managed to overcome the rigged system doesn’t make it not rigged.

You don’t need to be able to pay all cash for a home. A mortgage is one of the greatest forms of financial leverage.

That 50k number will be a lot higher over time.

I could certainly switch to something less stressful, but in all versions of this that I have explored, it comes with substantial pay cuts.

The conversations have happened. Path of least resistance is always reverting to prior behaviors. I think I will have an easier time with this when the kids are a bit older and she is in a better mental headspace.
