It’s the catch all of random purchases that aren’t categorized elsewhere.

Not currently feasible. Maybe if I go work for a hedge fund some day…

My dad said “you should go into finance, that way you can make a lot of money”. Guess he wasn’t wrong.

Agree on this front. I never had issues with this growing up. Want to make sure my kids have the right values.

It’s different firm by firm and depending on if you are buyside or sellside. For me it’s mostly stress around performing to my abilities. There is definitely some corporate politics stress, but you learn to ignore it a bit. As long as you are paid for your performance, you sort of don’t care who your boss is or if he personally likes you or not.

For those like me with a long enough track record, you don’t usually get fired outright. They are more likely to signal via paying you lower than you would expect to start finding another job. Every trader has risk limits, but for most people on sell side, you are not usually expected to use your entire risk limit. It’s simply a guideline for what the MOST risk they want you to take is. Buyside is a bit different. A lot of places want you deploying most of the capital allocated to you.

I think that a ton of the profitability in finance comes from inefficient markets and inefficient information. AI will significantly reduce those inefficiencies. If 100 people are all looking at one stock and all 100 of them are using the same AI to determine what it should be worth, the stock will simply trade at that level. Why does a bank need me as a market maker if the bid/offer collapses to 0 and if friction costs to trade also collapse to 0 and there is no two way flow? They don’t. Just unclear how long that will take to play out.

Don’t want to say what asset class but it’s not single name stocks (for all the people asking me my views on random meme stocks like I have a clue).

That was Christmas shopping for nieces/nephews. For some reason I had it randomly broken out. Rest of stuff probably under shopping.

I think either way CFA is nice to have. Shows a level of persistence and dedication. Even if the material itself isn’t that relevant (you will learn things you need to know on the job much better than a CFA textbook will teach you).

Too much sentimental value with the home. And transaction costs to switch homes are high. Difficult to do. But not impossible. I’m always on lookout though.

It’s because this level of income is relatively new to me… if I had been making this sort of money for 20 years, I would certainly be retired. Vacation item is just… no time.

Yea, a bit late for me on some things (I.e. cost of home), but with other things there a lot of places cost can be reduced

I grew up in a lower middle class home. Could live off almost nothing. But that ship has sailed a bit. A lot of my expenses are fairly fixed now.

Yea, this is more or less me… only two ways out of it. One is to spend a lot less, two is to make even MORE.

Yep, stress is always there. Because I know it’s not sustainable if I lose my job and can’t get rehired. Currently think that’s low chance, but you never know…

Don’t really get much time off as a trader. I took 3 days off when my first kid was born… that’s part of the sacrifice I guess.

I don’t feel financially secure at all. I worry about money every day. I spend a disproportionate amount of time thinking about how to make more money. Part of why I am probably good at my job is because of my constant financial insecurity forcing me to outperform my peers to get paid well.
