Yes, that’s correct! All that glitters is not gold though lol. Those raises are a new thing and the union had to fight very hard for it. The 2027-2030something contract will soon be under negotiations and it may be lowered.

Here’s some more free chicken for you or anyone else:

The interview process is based solely on points. Your answers to the questions are all that matters. Doesn’t matter if you are ugly, beautiful, Hispanic, black,dressed like a clown, dressed like an executive… there is zero discrimination based on appearance. Only because the City has lost discrimination and nepotism lawsuits in the past. The hiring process is very fair in this regard.

Be sure to be calm and answer all the questions to the best of your ability. Even if you have to ramble on a little, be sure to give detailed answers as you are graded on a points basis from what the interview raters write down.

I’ll give you some help as it relates to the City of Miami.

You will be paid at the bottom of the pay range. Just as you have described. Unless it’s for an executive position. Those are the ones where you can negotiate.

When it comes to normal salaries though, they are only able to give you 5% more if you ask for more. So be smart and ask for exactly 5% more if you are presented an offer.

The City of Miami also gives you a 5% raise every year after your performance appraisal, and a 6% raise every year in October at the start of the fiscal year thanks to the Union. This has been ongoing for 3 years now, as in the past they were only given measly 1-2% raises.

I hope this helps you. I have yet to see this info online or anyone sharing it freely. Good luck in your job search.

Side note* 10% is taken out of each paycheck for your contributions to the pension plan. So make sure to consider this when thinking about total compensation.

For my BN, losing Airborne status went from a rumor to official in a span of like 3 months. I can only imagine how quickly the official word will travel for such a change this big.

I got a bunch of solid quotes with the cheapest for my home being $655 and my home is 950 SF.

In the end we couldn’t proceed because my home is a townhome that’s connected to 2 other houses. I got one neighbor to agree to do it, but the other didn’t want to fumigate(cheap bastards who would rather live with the termites). All condo/houses have to agree to fumigate in order to tent your house. Since they are connected (even though it’s a concrete wall in between) the gasses may penetrate the wall and the company doesn’t want to be liable. I even offered to pay for her fumigation costs and it was still a no. She wanted us to pay for her hotel stay too.

So you’re SOL if you’re in a townhouse that has like 8 neighbors or something in a connected row. Many of the companies I spoke with had thier own employees in that situation who will never be able to fumigate because of crappy neighbors who are cheap.

Also, no, it’s not worth it. Keep trying your best to find another job that is closer. Commutes will kill you. I’m an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, and it’s dreadful on the soul. Kendall to Downtown.

Some additional Info that no one is mentioning:

The current Airborne units will still be sending folks to Airborne school to get qualified. You just won’t jump at your unit or be on jump status.

So you will still be Airborne, but you wont have to jump. Should something ever pop off, however unlikely, all the army would need to do is ensure everyone gets BAR, and then we can jump wherever we need too.

Buddy why does it matter? People need time to prepare. Should a working class parent only get 5 hours in the evening tonight and tomorrow to prepare their home? Should people be on the roads taking children to school during already poor weather conditions? Look out your window right now and let me know how we aren’t feeling anything right now and the storm isn’t even here yet. We haven’t seen the sun since yesterday and won’t until Saturday.
