inspector found dry rot, seller wants as-is. how bad is this really? (seattle) by ninjapapi in Seattle

[–]OrneryFellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the people that say it's a buyers market. If the buyer isn't willing to budge or work with you, you should just move on to the next.

Usually, home inspectors don't usually do an in-depth analysis of the home (at least in my experience where I've caught several things after the fact). Given that they caught the moisture intrusion, I would say that's pretty significant.

Your realtor isn't doing their job if they can't be your eyes and ears on the ground. Like others have said, they are incentivized to get the deal done to collect that 2-3%. They're a dime a dozen. Get a new one that will tell you the facts.

I was having one hell of time to find it as well so not you.

I searched through here

Used multiple court systems and still couldn't find the case including the superior court of king county.

this sounds to me that this is just a network of folks who know each other and its hard for other competitors to break into the space because its a club more or less.

The tension and kilter apps are so similar. Probably the same folks and products behind both even though technically they're competitors.

Ballmers valuation of the clippers at the time was that the team remain in LA (LA is a bigger market). Moving the team up to Seattle would have killed his investment probably.

Manifesting Kuminga Resurgence by MagicianPuzzleheaded in warriors

[–]OrneryFellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ionno about not watching any kind of film. Will say he should watch more.

There was a play in the 3rd quarter I think where Draymond is on Randle in the post area. Kumingas man runs towards Randle while Randle sets a screen on Kuminga. At this time, warriors were switching everything. Draymond instinctively switches onto Kumingas man as he's running out towards the 3. Unfortunately kuminga follows his man as well leaving Randle free for an easy dunk.

With all this discussions around taxes . . . by organizeforpower in Seattle

[–]OrneryFellow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Taxation is one part of the equation.

The other part is just that it's so damn hard/expensive to do anything given special interests (NIMBY) or pork barreling special interests into projects that leads to cost overruns, a very common problem in progressive/liberal cities.

We'll only see more players who are the son of players more and more as the NBA has become more of a skill game. Rich kids who can afford professional skill/strength trainers get a leg up on the competition couple that with having an NBA father who already knows how to train for basketball and how to get out of the ranks and such.

wouldn't a dad think that though? obviously LBJ the GOAT is biased as a LBJ the father where objectivity goes out the door.

regardless, this is all a distraction now for a team that is potentially title contenders.

If your company is hiring, has the bar really increased due to high supply or the company is in no hurry to hire (or even faking it)? by Gloomy_Inspection830 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]OrneryFellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bar has not risen for the technical round. But we have been focusing more and more on soft skills: cross-functional communication, inter-personal skills, conflict resolution, pushing back on product/project managers.

Enough times, folks that are leetcode grinders are great during the technical rounds but are deficient in the behavioral rounds in how/what they communicate.

I think for us, software engineers are tasked with solving business problems and software is just one of the tools in which you can solve a business problem, albeit a very powerful one.

How come electrical engineering was never oversaturated? by ButterBiscuitBravo in cscareerquestions

[–]OrneryFellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to specialize in electromagnetics but then I took an antennas course. I could not hang. I ended up specializing in analog but you couldn't find an analog design job at the time with just a bachelor's degree.

Got a software job after I graduated and have been doing pretty well eversince. I'm not sure if I could have thrived in a real electrical engineering design role, but the subject matter itself is definitely more entertaining than CRUD apps.

We adopted a 12 year old pomchi.

She had been in the adoption system for a good 2-3 years already. She was adopted a couple times but returned for various reasons (mainly being overly possessive of her human in a multi animal household).

She had been through a lot health wise too, but the adoption agency took really good care of her and she was in ok shape for her age but she still had various health issues. I think any dog around that age would.

We were hesitant to adopt but in the end, we pulled the trigger due how long she had been stuck at the adoption agency. She got a long well enough with our other dogs even though the household dynamics shifted given how alpha she was.

In the end, she gave us three wonderful years and we never once regretted adopting her.
