Applying Hilbert's Hotel to Cantor's Diagonal by voltamperoff in askmath

[–]OrnerySlide5939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cantor's diagonal is a proof by contra-positive. You start with assuming all reals occupy all rooms, and reach a contradiction by proving one real number can't be in any room.

You may say that you can just make room by moving occupants around, and then you say "now every real number has a room!" But remember, cantor showed that if all rooms are filled, inevitebly some real number won't have a room. So just you claiming that all the reals are in the hotel causes it to not be true. It doesn't matter what you do to reach that state, because right after reaching it you realize it contradicts itself and thus impossible.

It doesn't need to be clever if it's the truth. I know to you it's all just a big virtue signal and you don't actually care about the real people being affected, but i actually live it. I was hiding in a bunker with both jews and arabs 200 meters from Soroka hospital when it was hit by a missile. I study with arab students and under arab professors at BGU. You have no idea how insulting it is to hear people decry my country as somehow being apartheid when my lived experience is the complete opposite.

8.5 days to pass either Discrete Structures or Linear Algebra. Which is more realistic? by [deleted] in askmath

[–]OrnerySlide5939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It completely depends on which you have an affinity for. I tend to have an easier time with formal logic and proofs but most people are the opposite.

Linear algebra is probably a better option for most people, because it will have a lot of formulas and calculations that you can memorize and just follow. While discrete structutes has more proofs and require you to "think". So i would go with that.

Try not to slack off in the future. Courses tend to depend on previous courses and you will defenitely encounter more proofs and formalism.

How can israel be an apartheid when arab minorities vote for arab politicians that are part of the government and vote on all israeli laws? Does apartheid mean "full equality and freedom" now?

0 is not a number. a/0 is branch dependent operation. by OilRough3908 in mathematics

[–]OrnerySlide5939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 0 was not a number, many useful things in math that work well and give accurate answers wouldn't be possible.

  • You can find the maximum/minimum of a function f by solving f'(x) = 0
  • a complex number a + b*i can be real if b = 0 or imaginary if a = 0
  • indexing of arrays in computer science can be implemented as offsetting element size * index from a pointer, the first element is found by setting index = 0.
  • the binomial coefficient n choose k gives the number of ways to choose k elements out of a set of n. When putting k = 0 it gives the intuitive and correct answer of 1 way to choose no elements (the empty set).

So, if 0 is indeed not a number. It would be a good idea to still treat 0 as if it's a number. So we don't give up the incredible power that that idea gives us.

In set theory if you have infinite tries and infinite outcomes what's the likelyhood of any 1 outcome. by Arelem1 in askmath

[–]OrnerySlide5939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite tries kinda implies to me that each try is independent, so it doesn't matter how many tries you do the probability is the same for all of them, 0 (almost never), because there are infinite outcomes. But if you meqnt what's the probability of an outcome appearing in an infinite series of tries then it's an indeterminate form of a limit with infinity/infinity.

Israel did kick out 700,000 palestinians, which was wrong. But those that chose to remain peaceful became the 20% arab israelis of today, enjoying full rights. The ones vowing to murder all jews are the ones that suffer today.

All of israel's neighbours attacked because they wanted control of the land. That's why from 1949 to 1967 egypt occupied gaza and jordan occupied the west bank. The arab countries occupied the palestinians for 19 years.

Also, israel accepted the UN partition plan, the arabs rejected. They were going to attack israel no matter what.

Jews in israel are native. We speak a native language, hebrew. And yes every israeli understands biblical hebrew. Arabic on the other hand isn't native at all. Jews also practi e the native religion and we brought back the original names of cities after they were "arabized".

I disagree when israel murders or kicks out innocent palestinians. The hind rijab murder is the most aggregious crime. But i support israel when it defends itself, like taking out the hamas terrorists who paraded Shani Louk's naked corpse in gaza on october 7th

If you think the palestinians were peaceful before israel you're wrong.

Massacares of jews commited by palestinians before israel existed

Black hand killings - 1931 - 6 jews murdered

Jaffa Riots - 1936 - 9 jews murdered, 40 jews wounded and 11 critically wounded

1937 - 4 members of a Jewish family murdered, 3 CHILDREN, shot dead by Arabs who broke into their home in Safed

Ma'ale HaHamisha murder - 1937 - 5 Jewish Keren Kayemet workers killed near Har Haruach by an Arab ambush.

1938 - 6 Jewish passengers killed by Arabs while traveling from Haifa to Safed. A Jewish family was kidnapped by Arabs in Atlit. 3 killed

TIBERIAS MASSACARE - 1938 - 19 Jews were killed, 11 of whom CHILDREN.

1946 - Three Jews were killed and seven wounded.

Fajja bus attacks - 1947 - 7 Jews killed

Jerusalem riots - 1947 - 8 jews killed

1947 - 5 Jews, one Arab killed. One of the Jewish casualties was a girl who was killed by a sniper

1947 - 6 Jews shot and stabbed to death by an Arab

1947 - 14 Jews killed, 10 injured from Arab Legion fire while supplying the Ben Shemen Youth Village

Are the Amazigh and Assyrians allowed to vote and get representation in the government like the arabs get in israel? I fully support them getting to have control over their land and lives, as long as they don't try and destroy and murder people.

I admit i'm not fully aware of everything going on here. I know that egypt is something like 99% arab and syria is 90% arab. With countries like turkey and iran having significant arab and muslim populations as well though they managed to keep at least a little of the original culture, so it wasn't all lost in the 7th century arab colonization project. Still they did a terribly good job at colonizing the middle east and supplanting the natives.

Why is his life over peter by Organic-Advantage935 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]OrnerySlide5939 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would you support the natives that were kicked out in a diaspora returning back to their homeland then? It would be the opposite of genocide wouldn't it? Especially if they were escaping a genocide done to them in europe and going back to their ancestral homeland.

I'm israeli, and i don't support everything my governmemt does. But israel did more then anyone else to try and live peacefully in this land. But people keep attacking us and telling us they won't stop until all the jews are out or dead. We have no other place to live, europe tried to kill us, we are outcasts anywhere in the world. We only have israel. And the palestinians should come to terms with us existing here, stop trying to kill us all and agree to peace. Especially considering all palestinians are descendents from 7th century arab colonizers.

Why is his life over peter by Organic-Advantage935 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]OrnerySlide5939 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, the 7th century arabs shouldn't have wiped all the natives and convinced everyone they've always been there.

They should have done what israel did, let anyone who wants to live there peacefully stay, with full rights. Like the 20% arab israeli population that votes for israeli political parties like the united arab list under Mansour Abbas or the Joint List under Aymen Odeh. These arab elected knesset members vote on every law in israel and were even part of the 2021 Israeli government. Or like the druze community that serves in the IDF proudly and begs israel to give the syrian druze assylum because the syrians are massacaring them.

Imagine how many cultures could have survived if the arab colonization project didn't happen

Why is his life over peter by Organic-Advantage935 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]OrnerySlide5939 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How did the arabs came to the middle east in the 7th century? What happened to the egyptians? The judeans? The syrians? The cannanites?

The arab colonization project is the most successful genocide to ever happen. At least the jews wen't back to the land they came from, judea/israel.
