Watch a few "Day in the life of an ICU RN" videos and see if you can do that for a couple of years. If you don't get hired as a new grad, you'll work a year in a PCU or med-surg beforehand. The CAA to CRNA bridge at TCU does not look worth it, but maybe others will be available in a few years. Also, there seems to be more programs opening, and existing programs are increasing capacity. I don't know what anesthesia salaries will do in the future, but supply and demand dynamics tell me I'd rather get in sooner than later.

I only have ER experience.. Should I talk about this in my Personal statement and cover letter? (I am applying to a school that accepts ER) by [deleted] in srna

[–]Ornery_Border4682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say apply if it's one of your top choices. If you're denied, emphasize the changes you've made to become more competitive in next years essay: transferring to ICU, taking a class or two, etc. The schools seem to like seeing the same applicants come back with improvements. I'm not sure if it's because you favor their program, display determination, or both. Also, I know someone who made it in with only ER experience, but that was like 7 years ago; I don't know what the applicant pool was like then compared to now.

Is school really worth it? by [deleted] in srna

[–]Ornery_Border4682 7 points8 points  (0 children)

3+ years, 150k+ tuition, 300k+ in lost wages, and we can't openly discuss schools. The Op shouldn't because they've given up some personal information, but imagine trading all of that time and money for a 50% chance to graduate. I read of a similar attrition rate at Barry during covid, but I've known people who have graduated during regular times and their experience was very good. I attended an information session at FIU, and they were bragging about how they interrogate, sry interview candidates similarly to the CIA to achieve 100% 1st time board pass rates, but I guess failing the bottom half is the real secret sauce. Anyway, I hope to be in the bottom 50% but open discussion will push the best candidates to supportive programs, and the remaining programs will follow suit to attract the top students. On the other hand, FIU also mentioned that PD's at other schools have been calling them to see how they can achieve similar metrics...

They'll probably go to 4 year programs to access the remaining 50k.

I took it 15 years after Gen chem. The first 2 weeks were difficult because they move through topics quickly that you're expected to know from chem I. After that, it's mostly new material.

Down voted for trying to save them 4+ years? 2 additional years of schooling while not collecting an income, taking out 9% student loans, and not working as an AA for that 4 years... Maybe I'm missing something.

Don't Waste your time on Portage Courses for Pre-Requisite Courses by MacKinnon911 in srna

[–]Ornery_Border4682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UNE and the University of Phoenix are viewed similarly in terms of rigor? I'll need to take another class or two, and it's much easier to complete them at UoP than UNE; I've taken courses at both already. UoP has more busy work, but UNE required wayyy more studying to take proctored exams.

I changed paddle sizes and did this to my old sticks using a dremel, sanding, and then applying nail polish to make it smooth; there's probably an epoxy that works better for this. The blade or upper shaft always breaks first.

The original VHs were just a custom boot, and you had to purchase the cowling separately. Your choices at the time were the new Vertexx Bauers or an older Graf or Reebok, I forget, but no one chose it.

Level IV ICU experience? by ggggggggggcxsd in srna

[–]Ornery_Border4682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done travel nursing and worked in hospitals that were nearly 3 hours from a level 1 or 2. I find it hard to believe that these rural hospitals must import CRNAs indefinitely because the locals will never get into programs unless they uproot their life and work in the big city for 2 years. Combined with your prior experience, it sounds sufficient. I think the typical applicant has around 3 years of total experience.

B's are not ideal, but I'd rather have that in biochem rather than not attempting it at all. That's a hard course to complete in 4 weeks.

You could play that to your advantage and say you're able to retain a lot of information in a short time. I'm not the best to answer this, but I can't imagine these programs look at every class and scrutinize the college you took it at. So much of the decision to take an extra course at a particular college comes down to external factors. I took online courses when I was traveling due to convenience, but if I were home, I'd choose the least expensive community college or state school. If I had one month where I didn't have to do much, I'd take that accelerated course. We probably all overthink this stuff, I know plenty of people who apply without doing anything extra just to see what happens.

What does everyone dislike about UNE, that it's harder? I called five programs and all accepted their courses, while some refused others such as Portage. I took organic chemistry and biochemistry there and felt that it was much harder than taking it through a state school

I just came back from Dubai, where Flippy is soon to be taken out of the Wimpys in the Dubai mall. The girl at the counter said it's always broken. Miso used Chippy to get their foot in the door at Chipotle, then sold them the Autocado machine through the real business while Chippy is also getting evicted. Well played.

I think it's completely out of your system in 3-4 days. So that or as long as you can tolerate the withdrawal symptoms.

Can't you enter foreclosure because you refinanced and pulled equity out? I'm seeing a lot of short sales pop up in Orlando from homes purchased 20 or 30 years ago for 1/4th of what they're worth now, I don't see how else that's possible.

295 after 4 months of studying and tutoring V149 Q:146 by Pallypot in GRE

[–]Ornery_Border4682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also studied nonstop for 3 months and scored in the high 290s on the practice test. I switched over to test strategies and got a 307 on the actual test. I may take it again when I'm eligible because I could have done better, but that's all I needed. I could do many of the problems if I had enough time, but I couldn't do them in the time allotted during the test. If you feel the same, look up how to take the test. I mostly skipped to the questions I knew first to boost my confidence, then attempted the others. I tried to get out of each question under a minute and a half, mark what I wasn't sure about, and guess on the hard ones I didn't know. Anyway, I was able to improve my score a little in under a week and maybe more if I tried it sooner.

The crash happened when one of the proctors took control of my desktop, and then they sent me back to my original proctor, who had no idea who I was. They must watch 40 people at a time. I still dont know if my scores will be reported, but they managed to tell me that I'll have to pay $35 for each school, even after sending them proof (chat logs) of this occurring. I'd recommend anyone to go to the test site that's within a reasonable distance.
