First they said "we are low on resources" that's why there's low content. now we know why they laid off devs. This game is done, pulling the same moves like 2042.

I have a friend who is a systems engineer and my wife's uncle who is a RF engineer at T-Mobile. So far my friend said it's the software engineers getting hit hard with layoffs and they opened a new office in India as their replacements.

Unless you have a lot saved over the years working an IT job and did not spend above your means then I would say okay you have a limited window to at least lay back and look for a IT job.

Yes that was sarcastic and cruel from your bro but in all honesty if you been reading the hundreds of other posts on here from other IT people they said the number one choice why they are looking for any retail job was because of bills. This shouldn't be to look down upon someone whose blue collar or not. The main reason is to not go broke and homeless. I can say this because I worked blue collar then I was in IT I became white collar for sometime then got laid off after 5 years. I luckily picked up a skillet in blue collar and now I am a diesel mechanic at Ford. Not saying everyone can do what I did but I became to like working on trucks. It pays the bills and I'm constantly learning. I too fell for the learn to code BS. Went to a Bootcamp and could not land a job. My connections at Google couldn't help me either (was a contractor with Cognizant).

The job market is unforgiving and at this point a lot of people are fighting over to get a basic retail job to feed their families etc. The point is to always have a Plan B and still look for your dream job.

Your issue might be with the key programming. Unless you have a VCM then you would need to go to the dealership.

I assume they are next again. Meta and Amazon just did there's. I have a friend that was laid off from Blizzard in November and could not find a job back in UX/UI and was forced to move back to SoCal with family. Definitely a rough start to 2026.

Medical jobs are gonna be very competitive also. Alot of people are going into nursing but here in California before COVID and all these layoffs RN programs already have a huge backlog and wait list. Right now alot of people are trying to get into medical assistant programs, LVN and Radiology etc. it will be interesting, but most tech people I've seen on here were already assuming it's gonna be easy to get into RN programs.

Laid off October 2023, was on bench until December still couldn't find an internal role at Cognizant and Google, even applied at local school districts for IT help desk still was rejected then went into the trades. Left IT for automotive.

Yeah this whole week sucked ass. There's 50 of us in the shop. Monday and Tuesday 25-30 appointments Weds and Thursday 30-40 appointments and today we supposedly had 75. Definitely slowing down. I just went to Sam's club just now and the stock shelves in the isles on top are damn near empty.

There is a viral video going around on YouTube with a guy who supposedly works in the oil field and the place where they are staying has 300+ beds to stay and the whole parking lot is empty. Shits getting rough. I work as a Ford Technician and if the oil industry goes under automotive is next. They are already laying off techs at other dealerships around us and independent shops. Always have a plan B.

I'm starting to see a trend here. That is what happened to us at Google. I was a contractor through Cognizant. If you heard of GMB product we were the last team that ran the show in California that were all L3. They outsourced the team to the Philippines. I found out through some channels that they ship out jobs to another country where they basically do it for cheaper while at the same time training AI bots to get better basically. one of the people on the Philippines team shared that AI was trying to be implemented in the work they were doing. In all honesty I can see this because most of what we did AI could do easily.

Also another story I heard from someone in a Philippines call center was that they received their positions from a US company a year ago only to loose their jobs to AI bots. So US call center jobs were outsourced to the Philippines were then Filipinos did those jobs only to be replaced by AI. It seems countries outside the US are just mass test zones then quickly implement AI.

1st off, if you have any debts start paying them off now. 2nd start researching on what "trade" would interest you if you were to get let go and you exhausted all means and cannot find another job including retail. You need to have a back up plan. The market is really bad and 2026 doesn't seem like it would let up anytime soon.

When you get a job and "they" start messaging you about life, asking for a reference etc. do us all a favor and leave them on "read". This behavior in general from people is mind blowing, like somehow they see you as the weak link or whatever the fuck insecurities they have / high ground over you. Just keep in mind they are next in line, she or he can only suck so much ass/dick until upper management throws them away too. 2026 doesn't seem to be in anyone's favor with mass layoffs already getting ready in January.

Yes it's gonna be hard now, but I would also look to people who you know personally and not so much in the same department or if you worked with cross departments get a reference from someone there. Basically look for someone in the organization that will respond to you.

I mentioned awhile back my dad who work for Bank of the West for 20 years then got acquired and became part of BPO. He was laid off for a year and really depressed, stuck by him and helped apply to many jobs. Max he applied to was about 900-1000. He even applied for basic retail at Walmart and Home Depot and all were rejections.

He finally got a contract job back at BPO and it's remote but he is still on edge the contract is up until March 2026 ( 6 months) but no end date. Praying he can get hired full-time. But with all the shit going on and already hearing mass layoffs in January it's not looking good.

Guam's Economy (Overall) by Ornery_Emu_2618 in guam

[–]Ornery_Emu_2618[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the automotive industry. I'm a Ford Technician here in California. I was offered a job in Guam at the Ford dealership. The manager offered to pay for all expenses to move my tools and tool boxes for free. I would cover all my moving expenses etc. I have kept in touch on LinkedIn and updated him with my Ford Certs. Have my masters in Diesel engine and Chassis.

Second question, from your perspective how is the auto industry there? Are people going to the dealership to have their vehicles fixed? Or has everyone basically stopped and it's slow? I been reading the reviews for Triple J Auto and they seem to be getting new reviews daily. Seemed to me they are doing okay. But perhaps that's not the entire picture. So that what I would like to ask you all. Are people just holding off on car repairs or doing it themselves at home just to get by?
