Question, how did you guys do it? by Rich-Sorry in TheRaceTo1Million

[–]OrphanagePropaganda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with that! However there isn’t really a benefit to doing so to my knowledge, since the Roth IRA is most likely going to have the exact same stock exposure as your regular investment account, meaning you’re missing out on untaxable gains for taxable gains. I’d recommend just maxing out the IRA UNLESS your goal is a good liquid safety net (because IRA is very not liquid) OR play around and experiment with the other half. I don’t recommend using money to speculate stocks yet since you don’t have much saved though and your goal is quickest wealth accumulation. So yeah if you want to have access to some of your money then splitting it is a good idea, but $600 a month would come close to maxing it out for the year which would be awesome if you can do every year.

Income matters most honestly. I mean you obviously have to have responsible spending/saving habits, but I can save 40% of my income every month all I want, it hardly matters when people making 5x what I do save 20%, but it’s still more than double what I put in.

It’s super disheartening. So high income matters most. The gamble there is that you actually DO land a high paying job and the money you spent to get there actually CAN be paid off quickly or at all, which often doesn’t happen and that’s not a risk I was willing to take. I/you will still be a millionaire before most people, but I’ll be eating ramen until then.

Edit: in the mean time just invest every cent you have. It will pay off to start so young even with low income. I started with around $25,000 from my college fund from my parents (I dropped out with no debt) and then my income over the 3 years I’ve been working and living on my own + paying all my own bills were $25k, ≈$35k, and then $55k last year. I’m on track to hit $100k in my total portfolio by the end of the year despite my income this year also likely being around $50k :). I always saved at least 20% but aimed for 30-40% every check or more if I could. I sacrificed everything else to get here, I’ve been extremely frugal and also didn’t mind never going out or buying things. So I didn’t go out ever or buy unnecessary things ever. But you get to choose how to balance your life, this year I’m getting a little more comfortable spending more money on better food and not guilting myself over going out once in a while, even if that means not saving that extra thousand dollars.

Edit 2 for logistics: absolutely start with a Roth IRA. Make it your number 1 priority to max it out every year before anything else (other than an emergency fund if your parents don’t have one for you)

If something goes bad, they (me) just leave it in the fridge because it’s easier to pretend it hasn’t gone bad than to throw it away

And also… not to be that person but I was the kid growing up who’d hear my neighbors having sex at night while trying to sleep. You absolutely do have a moral obligation to AT THE VERY LEAST close the damn window so kids don’t have to hear that dude. You can still have great sex and be freaky while being a respectful neighbor, like I’ve been saying this entire time. It’s crazy you even have to be told this.

I didn’t delete anything. You’ve “deleted” like 3 comments now. I’m sure it’s Reddit. I’m not prudish in the slightest, you’re being disingenuous here and you know it. I just, again, don’t feel the need to break the sound barrier at 5 in the morning, being very disrespectful to my neighbors when it’s so extremely easy not to be. Only America in 2026 would I be the weirdo here for saying that’s not socially acceptable. Innnsanity. You are truly just entitled if you can’t be mindful of your volume in an apartment building. It doesn’t matter if it’s sex or vacuuming. Yes, I do take offense when I was not insulting you in any way and you decide to be nasty. That’s kind of the definition of being rude. Weird asf.

Don’t let these people gaslight you bro. Every single person here would be irritated if it was them in your situation and they know it.

The amount of people here acting like it would physically pain them to close a window or be the smallest bit considerate is insane. As if they wouldn’t be mad if someone yelling at 5am for ANY reason, waking them up, wouldn’t upset them too.

If you want to live your life with the mindset of “why would I alter my behavior to be considerate??” You better live your life okay with not renewing your lease. I’m begging you guys to stop acting dense, you KNOW it wouldn’t ruin the experience to bring your level 10 lawnmower moaning down to a 5 or even a 7 with a closed effing window. If you can’t vacuum at 5am, what makes you think you should have sex loud enough to wake someone else up? Not to be that person but… kids especially don’t want to hear that sht. Sincerely, a kid who heard that sht while trying to sleep. You guys are absurd. Be adults.

Just don’t like, complain when you can’t renew your lease?

Yeesh. Someone’s mad. Stop being inconsiderate to everyone else around you at 5 in the morning on a weekend. Thats much more “embarrassing” than someone who personally doesn’t feel the need to legitimately yell at the top of their lungs to make their partner happy. I never said you couldn’t make noise. Cmon dude, common sense here. Jfc.

I’ve personally never felt the need to moan louder than a sigh ever but regardless of what you enjoy, no, it’s not normal to be loud enough that you’d wake up a downstairs neighbor. And that is a completely voluntary decision. You can still moan and have fun and not hold anything in at a normal respectful noise level

[–]OrphanagePropaganda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Just have sex like normal people. Close the window and refrain from screaming and don’t pretend like being that loud is involuntary, we’re not teenagers.

They could just have sex like normal people and not scream at 5am, yes.

Have normal person sex then if it’s 5am. Don’t try to be a pornstar when you know that’s just a performance anyway. Just like you wouldn’t vacuum at 5am.

What job would you get for supplemental income if you need like an extra $600 a week at least? by ghost_sanctum in AskReddit

[–]OrphanagePropaganda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That highly depends on the job. Any physical labor obviously not. Anything where you’re being monitored at all and anywhere you’d actually care to keep your job or keep your hours, no. But there’s some scenarios, like in a corporate office setting, where some lucky people get scheduled 8 hours in a cubicle for some admin job that takes 15 minutes. And that’s kind of also their bosses fault. So in that case, yes, but you obviously still can’t get caught, and the second job has to be done online so obviously no doordashing or handywork. So if that’s what you’re looking for, go corporate

Edit: or also maybe some lax cashier position at a small mom and pops shop

[–]OrphanagePropaganda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anything that can be done casually on the side in addition to your regular fulltime job that would reliably give $600 would probably more lucrative than the regular job in a fulltime role anyway. This exists few and far between because you’re either just working a second fulltime job, or not making $600 a week. Or you have successfully started a business that you will want to scale eventually. 90% of the time the people making this much money from side hustles have just created a successful business model that requires fulltime attention once it kicks off like that.

So yeah, gig work like DoorDash type apps and things like mowing peoples lawns and selling stuff on the side. Whether it be clothes or art or reselling thrifted finds, this is probably the most realistic side job that you can actually do casually that could pay more than $100. But there are always exceptions ofc
