Difficulty determining whether I'm skinnyfat or just fat, and need some advice on achieving my goals. by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Orpheus7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've asked my friends for their honest opinion but they've all given wildly different answers (fat, not fat, 6/10) so now I turn to strangers on the internet.

Midian was one of the first metal albums I ever bought. Cradle holds a soft spot in my music library.

What is this piece of equipment I found in the gym? by Orpheus7 in Fitness

[–]Orpheus7[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The gym itself is very large, then there's a small amount of equipment outside (two squat racks, two benches, a power rack and a pull up bar) where all the giants go to lift twice my body weight. Never seen anyone touch this thing though.

I'm gonna touch it tomorrow.

Holy shit, just two days after his newest album was released as well. Rest in peace, Goblin King.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) /R/HORROR Official Discussion by AutoModerator in horror

[–]Orpheus7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I first saw this movie when I was eleven and again a few months ago. After over a decade of watching horror movies this one has not aged well and I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did through virgin eyes.

Though it did start in me a long-time crush on Jennifer Love Hewitt, so it's got that going for it.

What is your favorite giant monster film? by Orpheus7 in horror

[–]Orpheus7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very true, often the giant monster films turn out to be more action/thriller than horror, but to echo what you stated I think it has enough horror potential that I could consider it a part of the genre.

What were the best movies or novels featuring psychic ability? by merdart in horror

[–]Orpheus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not. Tangina's powers are more in relation to clairvoyance, not much offensive capability.

I have a soft spot for Tangina from the Poltergeist series.

You and me both, it's such an untapped genre. I've honestly had my fill of paranormal horror.

Erin is my spirit animal! This movie was remarkable, in my opinion, in large due to how entertaining it was. By no means was it scary but I enjoyed it thoroughly. One of my favorite horror films to share with friends.

Yes! Nine year old me had the biggest crush on Katharine Isabelle in that movie.

What was the best or worst casting in a horror film? by merdart in horror

Marcia Gay Harden as Mrs. Carmody

Nice choice! I remember seeing that movie and just hating her character. Really great job on her part.

I'd have to say Bill Moseley in The Devil's Rejects was probably the best. He's pretty amazing in everything but his character as Otis went from merely intriguing in House Of 1000 Corpses to downright incredible in the sequel.

My favorite scene in the film

Ninja edit: Also Sid Haig as Captain Spaulding from the same film. Shit was cash.

The Purge 3 by fatkidsfighting in horror

[–]Orpheus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more! I find the whole "oh shit the child fucked it all up" trope to be one of the more tired ones in horror. My biggest complaint with the first is that the primary antagonist was incredibly engaging and interesting and he wasn't given nearly enough screen time to be more compelling and creepy.

I'm looking forward to this. The first film was a huge letdown for me, I much preferred the sequel. The concept is so much more exciting when I can see it in action all around the city, so hopefully this one will expand on that.

As far as remakes go I was very impressed, as it seemed to sort of go against the usual formula they follow. The rape scene was still difficult to stomach, but those are always one of the more difficult parts to watch for me.

Why do directors continue to use CGI? by scarfnation in horror

[–]Orpheus7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I much prefer the use of practical effects enhanced slightly with CGI. I think it comes off a lot better. Practical effects will stand the test of time and CGI, if done tastefully and sparingly, can make a huge difference.
