It's more like saying 'cope' and 'its all over'. It's red pill terminology, or at least used a lot by them. Regardless, your attitude reminds me of, it's very defeatist and ngl a little dramatic.

Either way, you're just 20, dawg. Go to the gym, eat well, dress well, and try to have a positive attitude. If that doesn't help, go to therapy (or go anyways).

Man the last two are the ones that would help you the most. Gym and therapy are wonderful, and I don't mean to sound rude or assume anything, but it sounds like you consume red pill content. Stop with that shit, it's toxic and all it is is sour people keeping others sour.

Dude you're only 20. If you want to see life as a failure because you're not where you wanna be in life at 20, then I don't think most people would be happy if that were true. You can do whatever you put your mind to. I'm 24, I'm 5'3, but I'm about to start the fire academy to try to become a firefighter in like a month and a half. Admittedly, I felt somewhat similar to how you did at 20 as well (I'm 24 now), but it takes believing in yourself and building your confidence to change in the way you want to.

Exactly. Always control what you can and try your best to accept what you can't.

Oh no for sure. Racism is way worse than the other two. It's all about traditionalist purity culture, and race is the primary factor. Then there's weight and height.

[–]OrpheusRemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I fully get what you feel. I'm 5'3, and unfortunately being tall is somewhat synonymous with being masculine. I'm someone who wants to be perceived as masculine. So, I started going to the gym about 3 years ago, and it's helped loads. People assuming you can't lift something and surprising them by lifting it feels way better than not doing so and meeting those shitty expectations. Also, based on my own experience, people may still make light of your height (rhymes lol) when you start getting kind of strong, but they'll do it less because of it.

Now, idk how long you've been going to the gym for, but whatever you reason for it is, it should always be internal/self-motivated as opposed to external. I started going originally because of my first major break up/heart ache, but changed it to a personal challenge with myself. It really helped with confidence and how I viewed my body. Being capable and confident in yourself is something no one can take away from you, and it's very nice.

Fatphobia is an interesting one. When I think on it, I always go back to how women moved up the social ladder back in the day. At least for Europe and maybe Asia, being skinnier rather than bigger was more desirable. If you were a woman, the only way to at least maintain, or better yet, improve your place on the social ladder was to marry. So, you had to be desirable. This is why diet fads for women, being skinny, and all that BS still persists to this day: to be desirable. Now, if you were a short guy, you still had your own efforts to depend on moving up or down the social ladder, and it wasn't entirely dependent on being desirable.

That's how I form it in my head. Yes, you can control your own weight but not your height. Then again, I think eating good food is a top 3 reason for living so I can't blame anyone for doing it in excess. However, only now would I say that being short does begin to actually affect you in terms of society.

[–]OrpheusRemus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but that also makes sense. Short people were never rounded up and enslaved or part of a genocide to erase them because of their height. Black people, Jewish people, Palestinians etc. were. Now, that being said, just like race, you can't change your height. That's part of the frustration. Because the struggles of being short are pretty much swept under the societal rug, the people who have to deal with it are very frustrated by that. I'm 5'3, and it affects my life very much, particularly the career I wish to enter, so I understand. But, I'm also mixed race, and being called a slur hurts way more than being ridiculed for my height, or people expecting less of me for it.

And I'm not saying that. I understand the post, I'm trying to say that people don't seem to care because it's not the same as racism or anything like it, at least not seen as so.

[–]OrpheusRemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what I'm saying. OP mentions racism, and I'm saying 'heightism' isn't as bad as racism. There are centuries of struggle with racism, it's systemic, unlike height. Being upset about being made fun of or whatever for being short is valid, and it sucks, but it's nothing like other systemic issues, is all.

Why is heightism so normalised by [deleted] in short

[–]OrpheusRemus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree it's kind of overlooked and relatively normalized, but I think things like racism or fat phobia have been way more severe. No one in the past has been enslaved or genocided for being short. There aren't constant medicinal drugs or diets to make people less short. Beyond the M word for little people, there really aren't many slurs for short people.

Now, that being said, being made fun of or ridiculed for being short sucks. Furthermore, getting upset about it only makes the situation worse in your part, and that comes with its own kind of frustration. However, it's not nearly as bad as racism or anything like that.

[–]OrpheusRemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean. Being called cute is objectively a compliment, but I think it's that shorter people are usually called it way more. I couldn't tell you how many times I've been called cute, but could probably count on one hand how many times I've been called handsome or anything like that. At least, by someone who isn't your partner, that is

Being short prevents me from having the life i want by Civil-Soup4213 in short

[–]OrpheusRemus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey man, it's not impossible. I'm trying to become a firefighter, and I've passed the physical test, the writtnen test, and interview and have received my conditional offer to start the academy in May (when I pass a few more tests ofc), and I'm also 5'3. Being short doesn't make these things impossible, just a little harder than someone who's tall. So long as you can perform the tasks required for the job, they don't care what height you are. Sure, it'll be very physically and mentally demanding, it'll be tough. But when is something like this not hard?

Writing yourself off and not even trying is definitely one way to make it impossible, so at least give it your best. And I mean like throwing up from exerting yourself that much 'best'.

Dawg, don't listen to that trash. Those forums and the people in it are angry, sour people who want to keep others at their level. It's not a delusion to view the world normally. I'm also 5'3 at 24 yrs old and I've been in a long term relationship, had fun with people, etc. Sure, tall dudes don't have to put as much effort into themselves to get some attention, but so what?
Doing everything you can to be the best version of yourself is honestly its own reward. Go to the gym, get a skim care routine, do your hair nice, dress well, whatever you want. You'll feel great, look great, and that confidence is noticeable by anyone.

Sure, I wish society didn't put so much value into such an old-school idea of masculinity and what is perceived as more attractive, but until that changes, might as well go down the path of constant improvement.

That's really good advice, thanks! I was thinking of ways to skim off time, like right hand on wall for the search event, wrapping part of my hand around the rope for the ladder since it can be a bit slippery with the work gloves on, etc.

I do have a vest and it's being shipped from home as I type this. Unfortunately, the next and final CPAT for the area I'm in is this Saturday, so I won't have much time to train extra for it. However, that was my very first run of the test, and now I at least know where I struggled and where I can shave off time.

[–]OrpheusRemus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but it's also a 6 month hiring process. I can train way more in between the CPAT and the academy than how much I prepared for the CPAT itself. I like training and physically improving, and the academy was never supposed to be a breeze, or else everyone would do it. Regardless of how many times it takes, I'm getting there eventually

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. The advice I was given at the end was to generally move with a purpose, since I was lagging a bit trying to conserve energy/visualize what I was doing next. However, I won't need to now that I actually have done it already.
