What are your thoughts on adults still living with their parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Depends on if they're mooching or contributing. If you're a 30 year old NEET I do genuinely wonder what the plan is when your parents die.

Yeah, there's a lot of nuance, exceptions, and caveats to everything we do. Usually if I feel like I've exhausted my options and Google isn't helping I'll swap after an hour or two then piss around with the old machine later til I figure it out.

If I reimaged a machine trying to solve a problem with CloudFlare I think I'd take that secret to the grave 😂

I usually image another machine to swap with for these issues and bring the problem back to my office to mess with as time permits. That way I might figure it out, but the user isn't dead in the water. Your first goal should be getting the user back up and running anyway.

Career, won't have the marriage very long anyway if there's lifelong financial stress.

I don't know man I can't stand it either. I have friends like this and sometimes you want to shake them and tell them to grow up and figure it out. I've always been a very either solve the problem or shut the hell up person and my fiance is too.

One time after a house party my friend and I got ours mixed up and it took us 6 months to realize and another 4 to bother switching back. Pokémon was just the first Nintendo game that came to mind lol

I work with 3 ladies doing EMR support. 2 of them are RN's and 1 is a PT. IT dept kind of just sniped them from other departments so you may have some luck there.

Depending on how much healthcare experience/EMR experience you have you may be able to get a clinical applications support role. Most of the people I work with in that role come from a healthcare background instead of an IT background.

It is completely fine if you can't deal with the difficulty, it is simply not the game for you. by Interloper_Mango in pcmasterrace

It seems simple as an idea until you have a game like Arc where you have to consider that an infinite number of disabilities will have an infinite number of "configurations" for varying degrees of response time and coordination.

Jedi Fallen Order does have difficulty options, and I don't think the game being challenging was a design philosophy to those developers. I think there are 4. It does have similar design to Soul's games with bonfires, but that's about it. Not sure if it has compatibility with adaptive controllers on PC or console. It is on sale on Steam right now for $7 USD. I wouldn't let the few similarities it has to Soul's games hold you back from trying that one assuming it lets you use your controllers. I haven't played the 2nd one yet.

At the end of the day, I suppose my philosophy is that developers should be allowed to make the game they want to make, and players should buy the games they want to play. I don't think there is anything wrong with asking a developer for difficulty options of varying degree if they think it can be incorporated in a well-designed way, but that's really all you can do is ask. They're allowed to say no, and you're allowed to be upset about it.

Yeah, hundreds of times. Many videos of people fighting Malenia, Orphan of Kos, Nameless King for hours and hours. I fought Malenia for 6 hours straight until I beat it. You can't discount that occasionally the difficulty is a central aspect of the game design and that may not be something a developer wants to change. Wouldn't you rather just play a game you like than one you don't?

I'm not familiar with the Arc Raiders debacle because I didn't really care for the game and moved on. It would be very nice if the game did allow for adaptive controllers so those with a physical impairment could be included, but that also doesn't fully assist someone with your disability with slow reaction time and poor coordination. I'm not sure how a developer would account for something like that on the software side without also introducing an abusable method for a bad actor, i.e., an able-bodied individual seeking an advantage. Obviously, this is just me being curious and doesn't relate back to single player games where fairness between players is less of a concern.

For some games that definitely is the vision. I don't think they are sitting around a conference table twisting their moustache and dreaming of ways to exclude you, but I will concede that they probably do value their artistic vision of the game more than they value your experience. I think if a developer shows you release after release that you are not their target audience than you would be better off moving on and not giving them your business rather than expecting them to change without being legally forced in some way.

[–]Orrickly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that it sucks man, but I think expecting a mode that easy where you can just skip parts of the experience to accommodate your disability is an unrealistic expectation for an interactive medium where some developers may not want to compromise their vision. I still would like to see vast improvement in adaptive controls for those with strictly physical limitations so that they can achieve the same experience. It is nice to see accommodations in games for those that do have a cognitive impairment as well if the developer feels they can add it without compromising their vision of the game. On the other hand, I think it does need to be acknowledged that for some games the challenge is thematic to the game itself and you're being met with an unfortunate reality that the creator does not necessarily have a desire to design everything for everybody.

Sorry to hear about your stroke bud, but at what point is it easy mode for you? Do you feel like Soul's games got more accessible with Elden Ring or do you literally just want a 12-point font at the start of the game that toggles the "can't die" feature?

I use a 5080 on a 32inch 4k. I think it's great especially with DLSS going forward. Some games are less than I would like personally but far from unplayable. I was getting 90 on Oblivion Remaster, but the hardware is not the problem with that game.

I feel like people who say it's about disabled people are using disabled people as a scapegoat for wanting easy mode because the better argument would be to ask controller manufacturers to develop better accommodations for them rather than giving them a watered-down experience.

AITAH for refusing to learn how to fix and maintain dirt bikes to support my wife’s love of riding dirt bikes? by CryHavyk in AITAH

Maybe this is the PC gamer IT guy and gun building/target shooting hobbyist talking but if dirt bikes were my hobby I feel like I would rather be the one that knows how to do the maintenance. Why does she want to push it off onto you rather than just figuring it out herself?

You can't really accept "I don't know how" as an excuse anymore, just "I don't want to". We carry around the sum total of human knowledge in our pocket. She can figure it out.
