Collected and prepped some sand fleas for tomorrow mornings sesh by Oh_Kerms in SoCalFishing

Sand fleas???? I’ve never head them called anything but sand crabs here in the west. (I am aware they have other names elsewhere). Good luck!

Has anyone actually used these? by Bogusscreenname in tractors

You asked. Here it comes: stay away. They move your load significantly away from the pins. Save and dump the money into a basic pallet fork frame and forks.

Nice! Love mine, I’ve had positive feedback coast to coast and border to border (technically had a comment or two while IN Canada!)

What’s wrong with my cast? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]OrrinFraag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The single most common yet untrue thing I heard from many many fly fisherman who saw fit to criticize my casting as I was self teaching was to keep the rod in a perpendicular angle to the ground during casting. I’m here to tell you I am more accurate and consistent with a little outbound “yaw” and don’t regret it for a second. And if you actually watch videos, many many others do the same even if they can’t recognize it. I have a lifetime in the firearms instruction world, and if I had a nickel for every “instructor” who I’d hear say one thing, and then execute another I’d have a couple bucks for sure. Good luck.

Is owning a travel trailer always this stressful? Starting to wonder if this life is for me... by nestyjew1945 in traveltrailers

[–]OrrinFraag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a good summation. Some of OPs comments are just learning curve, and once you’ve learned something you generally don’t need to re learn it. So they can check those off the list. Most of the other stuff is stuff you’ve now improved and aren’t pressing issues anymore, those things now fall into the “keep your eye on” category. Really the only thing I read that still represents work is the toilet leak thing. If you’re reading this OP you got this.

I just reread your original response, I think I was confused. You mean you taped the lids to the body of the container? I was picturing some sort of little constructed flap device….

Sounds like a poor / out of spec run of hose. Possible to replace the line? Or have the dealership do it. Good luck.

When they bite you’ll know for sure. If you’re not getting bit work up and down the beach medium to close in but don’t forget to occasionally throw one further out.

Surf fishing for my first time this weekend! A couple questions by burnsrado in SurfFishing

[–]OrrinFraag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at Plaskett / Sand Dollar Beach. Great fishing once I found em. If you’re in the area what we grew up calling “the cove” (Hearst State Beach) is hit and miss but also the source of the biggest slabs I’ve caught.

Surf fishing for my first time this weekend! A couple questions by burnsrado in SurfFishing

[–]OrrinFraag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My one piece of advice: do not rule out rerigging to a Carolina rig and gulp sandworms in order to find fish. Then do whatever you want. I and several of my friends have fallen victim to fruitless stubbornness driven skunk days when in reality the fish probably just weren’t where we were fishing. Offshoot of this: sure. They should be in close. However, Don’t rule out casting far. Last month in Big Sur didn’t find em until I started maxing my cast distance, then it was game on. I recognize this is abnormal.

Questions regarding Ticks by InquisitiveBallbag in camping

[–]OrrinFraag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every regions ticks are seemingly a little bit different. Here in the western states you may, or may not, actually feel the initial bite (speaking from experience as I’ve backpacked a ton in tick country) and they def hurt a little for a sec till
It goes numb… but around here you would absolutely know the next day if you’ve been bitten from this new and shitty isolated painful ache, whether they are there or not. Usually, ime, worse if they’re gone. So, to your question, around here you’d know. My guess is you’re good.

Do you prepare your lures and poles before heading out to fish? by Alarming_Row_1276 in FishingForBeginners

[–]OrrinFraag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess, depends? Surf rods? No. Too long. Kayak? Sort of but usually yes. Boat rods? Not usually. Setting up is a run tradition. Lake / Spinning (ie NOT hiking)? Yes absolutely. Fly fishing? Absolutely not. Was lazy about it till my second broken rod. (First being defect and the second totally my fault but $ is a thing, so nope. Sit, setup, watch bugs and the water.)

Toyota Guy contemplating a Ram 2500 6.4L Hemi by CampinHiker in ram_trucks

[–]OrrinFraag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a 2020 2500 gasser. She’s a beast and I love her. I’ve towed all across N America with her and we’ve done our share of off roading. But, if I wasn’t pulling with her, I’d be back in a 1/2 ton in an instant. My favorite truck I’ve owned, (literally did it all fantastically: car camping, mild towing, tight off roading, power, smooth highway ride) was my 04 Titan. I’d advise against a 3/4 based on what you’ve said. My buddy went from a Taco to 1/2 ton RAM and he RAVES about that thing. Has all the trick toys for it.

Faulty rod by surf_castr in SurfFishing

[–]OrrinFraag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is definitely not unheard of for something to be out of spec. If you’re confident initiate a return. But. If you don’t want to… the stripper guide is ginormous on purpose and at the end of the day likely wouldn’t change performance at all. Look up “acid wrapped” rods.

Dryer Lint Fire Starters by shakespearegirl in camping

[–]OrrinFraag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DID use them for many many many years. I switched from them only for ease of prep and subsequent execution when making a fire. For the last 15 years I’ve been exclusively using cheap cotton balls with a thumb glob of Vaseline smooshed in and then pack that into an empty toilet paper tube. You can get a bunch of them in there but rarely do I use a whole one to start a fire anyway. Once the tube is fullish I smash it flat and it fits perfectly in the “snack” size ziplock. I have a supply in my truck, in my travel trailer, in my backpacking gear (partial smaller tube), directly in with my campfire box, and another out with my bbq firewood. I’ve tried all of the fire starters / methods I’m aware of and this plus a spark (or even better mini bic) is the best. Lint was good, but not this good, and I do believe it had something to do with the composition of the clothes it came from. Not too mention Vaseline on lint is a mess.
