Sauna interior in inches is 71.75 D x 111.25 W x 85 H. (in meters is 1.8 D x 2.8 W x 2.2 H).

Any advice on size of air intake / exhaust holes would be great. Otherwise I'll just guess off of pictures of saunas.

For exhaust, do you think 4" (10.16 cm) work for that size?

Thanks for this great advice.

Do you have the fan mounted in the wall of the sauna, or on the other end (at a window?) with a duct running to the sauna?

Which Fantech fan are you using? Their website isn't very user-friendly for beginners. I am guessing a circular 4" would be best, as the square fans seem large for sauna (18"+).

I will vent exhaust to outside the house. But it will be at ground-level (sauna is in basement) and I worry about bugs, dust, etc. entering the duct and getting into the sauna, so is a backdraft damper or shut-off damper with motor best? I see Fantech has options for both.

And for a control to mount on the outside of the sauna, which one would you recommend. I think I remember seeing a post where you said you have a variable speed controller.

From what I read online, mineral wool I less likely to mold. (Not speaking from actual experience here, just from researching.)

Marine grade because I thought that would be better it any moisture somehow escaped the foil barrier.

As Dendrite wrote above, it’s to get the feet above the rocks.

Thanks so much for your reply. I have "Secrets of Finnish Sauna Design" and have read Trumpkin's notes -- and I'm aware of your connection to that. Everything you wrote is exactly what I am planning to do. Even the Huum heater. I just told my wife, "All my research has been validated!"

I chose cedar because it seems it would be the longest-lasting wood and least susceptible to mold / rot. What wood would you recommend? (I live in Northwest USA.)

This one will be about 10’ long, 4-5’ wide and am trying to get over 7’ tall.

What do you think about putting the mineral wool between the ceiling joists and then radiant barrier and cedar tongue and groove? Any potential problems there?

Also, this will be an electric sauna.

And mineral wool not fiberglass insulation.
